I am helping run a caster-only Campaign, and I wanted some loot they haven't seen before, so I had an idea based on the 3rd party class Death Mage.
~Ring of Shadows~
Magic Ring, Aura Necromancy, Price: ???
After 24 hours of attunement, the wearer gains the ability to manipulate and command shadow as if it was a physical, malleable material. You gain the benefit of continual prestidigitation, unseen servant, and spectral hand spells as a result of your ability to shape and command shadows. However, these abilities cease to function in bright light.
Also your Shadow becomes monstrous. Under normal lighted conditions, this is not hard to observe—but uncommon to notice. Creatures that succeed at a DC 15 Wisdom check notice it plainly (an additional Perception check may be required based on environmental conditions). This telltale sign of wickedness cannot be concealed by misdirection, non-detection, or illusions, except those that also affect shadows (such as invisibility).
Removing the ring immediately suppresses the magical abilities granted but the monstrous shadow will persist for 1d4 minutes.
Construction Craft Rings, prestidigitation, unseen servant, spectral hand, Cost: 28,500 gp
~Lesser Ring of Shadows~
Magic Ring, Aura Necromancy, Price: ???
As Ring of Shadows, but only grants spectral hand. This ability still doesn't function in bright light and your Shadow still becomes monstrous.
Construction Craft Rings, spectral hand, Cost: 24,000gp
