Kay, first off, sorry for not spoiler-tagging my original post. I don't forum browse much, and wasn't aware it was a thing you could do. Thanks Jessica for fixing that for me. Second, I realize the big draw is for the fact that you get an owlbear companion, and I love it. I'm helping my GF who has the boon build a mad dog aasimar barbarian for RAGIN' CELESTIAL OWLBEARS. But, since when I make characters, I do try to optomize them much as I can so they don't get useless feeling after a while, I wanted to know if there was some hidden benefit I'm missing to a 10 charisma on an animal companion, since a bear seems kinda lackluster overall. I'm honestly really surprised they don't get large, but I guess I'm imagining grizzly bear, and Paizo is imagining black bear. Anyway, thanks for the feedback all.
So, without spoiling too much, I recently received a boon from an adventure that allows you to substitute an owlbear companion for a normal bear companion. I was wondering, for those that have seen the boon as well, is there any real benefit to this? The boon reads: Spoiler: You recovered a clutch of owlbear eggs and may raise one of the hatchlings as a pet. If you possess a class feature that permits you to take a bear as an animal companion or mount that progresses as an animal companion, you may instead gain the service of an owlbear. The owlbear companion uses the stats of a bear companion with the following modifications: all Handle Animal checks made to train or handle the owlbear suffer a –4 penalty; the bonus granted by the devotion ability increases to +5; the creature’s starting Charisma score is 10; and the animal companion looks like an owlbear instead of a normal bear. This owlbear is considered an animal for all purposes.
So as I read it, you take a big hit to handling the animal for a +1 to some will saves and Charisma 10. On top of that, the bear companion doesn't really seem all that special (only gets up to medium, doesn't have grab or anything). Do you think it's worth it overall? I mean, outside the fact that you get to have an owlbear best friend, which is pretty cool for flavor.
The lampliterth theem to have a good and jutht cauth at the forfronth of their mindths, and I, Thir Bunthithar Fuzzymouthache do thupport their cauth (dethpite my applicathionth for memberthip being rejected theveral timeth on account of, erm what wath it. Ah yeth! Thuithidal bravery!). their methage of preparedneth for any occathion ith a pieth of advithe that all Pathfinderth thould athpire to. Where they go WRONG though ith trying to theperate themthevleth with lofty requiremenths. Thomething like thith should be reprethented in how you act and prepare, not in a badge of recognithion. It thould be reprethented in not what you do, but how you do it. It thould be thomething incluthive! Not divithive! We have enough divithon in the thothiety already. Bunthizar takes a moment to wipe the spit from the inside of his helmet before finishing. Ath I think wath conveyed in the original methage, the lamp thould be carried to light the fireth of inthpiration in other pathfinderth, not to catht thadows over them from a lofty peak.
I've been playing around with the rules for the past couple days trying to come up with races for a hypothetical campaign that doesn't quite use the normal fantasy races. I wouldn't mind some feedback or ideas fluff. I'll start with the Kyryk, a race that started as "Take all the stuff you know about elves, but now they're anthropomorphic giant spiders." Kyryk
