Thank you both for the information. It definitely helped us make our decision.

I have a character from a campaign I really like and was considering recreating in PFS to try out this style of play. But the race I was is restricted. It would cost 160 AcP, which I could earn by playing. I live in a remote area so home games would be my only option, which looks like it gives single digit rewards. So I it would take a long time. Am I missing something? How long would I actually need to play a "throw away alt" before I could get to be the one I actually want to play?
What ancestry are you interested in?

My party is trying to decide what to do next so we would need to unlock Anadi and Sprite. Is there a difference in how we unlock them?

Well, first of all you can have multiple Society characters, so it isn't really a "throwaway," it's just another character. I have almost 20.

Secondly, I'm a little surprised that you say living in a remote area makes home games your only option? I really expected that to say online games, which are pretty readily available.

You can get credit from running or playing other sanctioned adventures, like APs. Since these games aren't themselves Society games, you can always play whatever you want.

Remember that GMs get double AcP. And you get 80 points to start out with for signing up.

A standard scenario grants 4 AcP, so if you're playing (and not GMing) only those you'd need 20 sessions to earn 80 AcP. Some people will advise you to get an extra 40 first so you can afford a Second Chance boon. PC death isn't exactly common in Society (I've never seen it, but I've seen it come close), but it'd be kind of a bummer to save up all your points and then have that character die when you can't afford to resurrect them.

Oh, I thought online games would count as home games. And thanks for the info
