Peeps, unfortunately I have to leave this game. I am really enjoying the system and some of the stuff that emerged in our group, but a) my free time is becoming severely limited due to other projects, and b) I am uncomfortable both IC and OOC with some of the stuff going on with the crew. I never was able to play even a moderately evil character. *sigh*

Briar seeks out Montague and redemption. She feels that the direction the cult is taking is greatly straying from her own beliefs and that she can no longer be a part of it. She will not betray them to their enemies, but she will no longer give her help either.

Briar stares at Velaris for a long time, her jaw clenched. Finally, she takes a few steps towards the bakery, but Mender's explosive implement makes her intervention futile. She gives Velaris another heavy look before turning away and stalking into the city, in a different direction that the rest are taking.

Briar sets up in a nook up the street, ready to intercept trouble, should it head towards her companions. Simon has been sent to steal a bun, hopefully causing the baker to chase the cat down the street.

Briar spends an entire day surveying the remaining Grey Cloaks and trying to ascertain their patterns. Who goes out, at what times, routes and places they frequent, and so on. Her goal is to identify targets that are the easiest to snatch, perhaps using that paralyzing serum that had been so successful in their previous score.

Wouldn't be better to study the Grey Cloaks' patterns and nab a couple of them when they're outside their stronghold, like patrolling the edges of their turf or something similar? They disappear quietly into the night, hopefully unnerving the remaining Grey Cloaks.

Briar was all about non-violent options this score to avoid the attention of the Wardens, but she did use her tracking to get intelligence on the Greycoat's defenses and to surprise the sentry and the snipers. 1 XP.

She will work on the LTP to lower the clock of the person hunting us. If Mender shares his findings, she can try to extrapolate who the mysterious person is going to talk to next, or what information they will try to obtain, and try to either plant a false trail or erase the information. Study: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

The snipers on the roof are probably covering each other, so we need something to take them out at the same time. A sleeping gas grenade, perhaps?" Briar looks at the others questioningly.

Could I send Simon to distract the snipers? Tangling among their legs, batting at their rifle straps, that sort of thing, while Briar sneaks closer to try and take them out stealthily.

She was in a precarious position and the risk to the operation was too great. Freeing her arm from the rotten roof patch, Briar crawls on her belly to a better spot, using any cover available to stay out of sight of the lookout and the snipers.

With an arm trapped by the patch of roof that had given in, Briar doesn't have many options. With her other arm, she pulls out her hunting knife, a heavy blade the length of her forearm. It's not balanced for throwing, but it will have to do. She brings her hand over her shoulder and whips her arm forward, sending the knife spinning into the air towards the guard. She aimed it so that the hilt would strike the guard in the back of the head and, hopefully, render him unconscious.

A couple of stories above street level, Briar lies on her belly, eyeing the guards and snipers. She moves slowly, careful to not let any of her gear make noise. Medium load. She could put a bullet through the lookout from here, but a shot would alert everybody. No, best to make her way undetected to the snipers and cut their throats all silent-like.

Harrington sounds like we will need our full strength to deal with him. counter-snipe the snipers, then taunt him to come out from under cover. Someone with his reputation probably won't cower under the awning during a hostile takeover.

Briar wraps herself in a heavy cloak and goes out with Simon. Once away from their hideout, she releases the cat, who quickly darts into the shadows. Under the pretense of looking for her 'lost' cat, Briar goes through every alley and nook, studying the lay of the land. What's a likely ambush spot, either set up by their group or that could be sprung on them? What are the access points? Do the roofs offer good vantage spots that she might make us of? Where are the avenues of retreat, should something go wrong?

Briar would not be up for assassination if no better reason is given. But going up against the Grey Coats is definitely something she would like to do.

Briar turns her chair around, straddling it with her arms propped on the back, hat drawn low over her face.

"Halthar is my light out of the darkness. My people, and others," she nods to Tarnikos, "have suffered terribly under the Empire. It is my goal to fight against that. I am no politician, or philosopher, or rich philanthropist, and giving a few coins to a poor family can only stretch so much. If I can help take down the ones who do the oppressing, the ones who murder and cheat and steal from the poor, then that is what I will do." She pauses, gauging everyone's reaction. "Halthar is a guide. Where His light is leading us, I cannot say. But I feel it in my heart that he would want us to guide those who are lost and make the world brighter. But you are right, Hutch, we need to be more organized for that. We each need to know our role, and our goal, and how to achieve it. And we need resources for that."

For Briar, Halthar is a helpful, benevolent deity, so she strongly doubts that he would ask for assassinations (unless it's a particularly wicked target) or arson.

Just as she finishes speaking, a knock sounds at the door and she's immediately on her feet, catching the chair before it tips over, pistol drawn and aimed at the door.

Briar's consequence was noted above - her purveyor refuses to supply her anymore.

In that light, acquiring a Vice Den would be her priority for the group, then she can indulge at home and won't have to look for a new purveyor.

* Contend with challenges above your current station. - no
* Bolster your crew's reputation or develop a new one. - maybe? Is it strange for a crew to want access to a warded mortuary?
* Express the goals, drives, inner conflict, or essential nature of the crew. - so far our crew seems to be focusing on guile and misdirection to achieve our goals, so I'd say yes.

For crew name, The Pale Shards? Black Diamonds, which was suggested before, would also work nicely.

Do we also get personal XP? This time Briar definitely used violence to address a challenge, so she gets her class XP.

Briar visits Montague again, seeking some solace in the worship of Halthar. Unfortunately, the Severosi priest has heard some rather nasty things about the people that Briar associates herself with. He tells her that this is the last time he will perform the rites for her and in the future she needs to go someplace else.

She returns to the hideout in a sour mood, using the remaining time to rest and completely recover from her injury.

I'm confused. I thought that using Sharpshooter was increasing my range/accuracy. We could go for covering fire instead, if that fits better mechanically.

The Grey Coats were despicable - preying on the people they had once sworn to protect. And that weasel Wreck, working with them behind Narnya's back. Briar aims carefully at a point a few inches from Wreck's head and squeezes the trigger of her rifle. She didn't want to kill him, only send a message.

Leaving her position may be dangerous for her, so Briar sends her cat to warn Velaris that something may be amiss.

Briar settles in an abandoned top-level apartment overlooking the building of the fundraiser, raising the collar of her coat against the wind whistling in through the broken windows. Simon is grumbling at the absence of cushions and soon disappears through a crack in the ceiling, going who knows where. The Severosi woman Surveys the area for threats, her spyglass glued to her eye.
