Burn some of that midnight oil man and let's see it tomorrow!

Well Editing is a good thing I suppose. Not to mention it looks like 2 updates are getting released. Can you say with the utmost certainty that we will be looking at finished product sometime next week?

Are you guys at Paizo serious?!?

Two months since the last supplement.
Luckily my group has taken a few weeks off due to successive Sunday holidays and the flu.
I figured by now I would have information I sorely need for conversion to the Realms.
At these higher levels I need assistance in incorporating the
campaign into the Realms.
PLEASE something soon.

Absolutely serious.

We're trying to get caught up, and with our new editor and graphic designer, we're doing just that. Catching up on the print magazine comes first, though.

Daily updates are needed. Thanks!

I give up. It's never coming out.

I'd say the conversion notes for 127 will be up sooner than the ones for 126 were. Remember; the online supplement for 126 happened to come due during/just after Gen Con, when we were already scrambling to get issue 128 out the door. Things are getting back to normal here so 127's online supplement should (hopefully) get online more quickly.

I will not give an estimate on a date that it'll be ready. That way lies madness.

15 days later....

I was speaking to a friend of mine about tailoring AoW for Eberron. He suggested changing the lizardmen to Sahuagin since they are near Sharn. I love the idea, since it will add a new dynamic for the adventure (being underwater).

But it brings up a lot of questions. First, some monsters need to be changed. Then I have to come up with waterbreathing for the pcs, and how the captives are surviving.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Personally I think this is a terrible idea. The Shauagin seem to have a better fit in Xen'drik than the interior of Breland. Personally, I think Mr. Baker's explanation in the #126 supplement fit quite well!

This is a segment from one of my players journals. It takes place in the TFoE module. The setting is Eberron.

The allip drifted after the scampering figure, and the two robed figures behind it followed, murmuring the beginnings of their nefarious incantations.

Quickly, Sapphire darted aside, calling to her friends. Grind was the first to move, standing in the doorway before Elle, protecting his ward. Amber moved up behind Elle and stared in, trying to see into the L-shaped room.

A strange babbling echoed into the corridor and the party gasped as they shook away the effects of the strange muttering. Focusing, Elle began to cast a variety of protections upon Grind, while Grind swung at the misty figure before him. Amber brandished the symbol of the Host, trying to banish it to no avail.

Sapphire moved behind a pillar, she was cornered; unable to reach her friends, she focused upon the spellcaster moving towards her, readying her bow against his spell. The sorcerer cast as Sapphire missed her target and sucked in her breath as fire boiled forth from his fingers. Grinning, the dwarven woman emerged unscathed from the slender marble column and readied her bow.

Amber’s fingers began to shake as she held the wooden symbol, she had already focused a large quantity of energy against the allip, but it still stood unfaltering. In the strange light of the chamber, she saw two more figures standing behind it and deduced the source of the allip’s resiliency. Angrily, she called upon the forces in the earth and vines sprung out of the floor and quickly entangled the distant figures.

Elle continued to tinker with Grind as she felt his focus lose sway, knowing the ghost-like figure to be draining his center. She concentrated upon his mind and pushed forth a surge of wisdom. Frustrated with his battle against the allip, Grind watched as the figures in the vines slowly emerged from the bush; stepping forward, Grind swung at the robed figure that closed into his threat and dropped a bloodied carcass.

The far door swung open and Sapphire turned to see another robed figure, more sinister than the others, step forward. He held in his hand a staff and a cruel dagger was sheathed at his belt. His hands rose upwards as he released a javelin of blue light that streaked towards Sapphire. Gasping, Sapphire clasped her hands over her wound, the robed figure that had just moved behind her from the vines, collapsed onto the floor, his robes charred from the bolt.

As she turned, she stared in horror as Grind stiffened, the chamber’s walls glowed green and veins of purple pulsed mystically in a hypnotic beat. She had managed to overcome the transfixion but had forgotten to warn the party of its power. Fearing the worst, Sapphire tumbled through the allip rejoining Elle and Amber outside the chamber.

“Grind’s not moving” gasped Sapphire.

“What?” screamed Elle; her face looked flushed with fear.

“Sapphire, I need to get next to that allip,” yelled Amber.

“On my mark,” agreed Sapphire. Quickly, Sapphire ducked back further into the corridor as Amber moved before the undead spirit.

“Now you will feel power,” Amber muttered angrily and she reached forward to touch the spirit, her body infused with positive energy.

Elle looked pale and her hands trembled as she stared down the dark corridor from whence they had traveled. Slowly, she drew a sunrod from her pack and lit it, staring back down the maze, considering her path.

From the blackness, she heard a snarl and her eyes widened as she saw a fiendish boar step into the sunrod’s light.

“There’s another door out of the chamber,” yelled Sapphire as she moved beside Elle, looking at the boar. “Amber, come over here and entangle it!”

Frustrated, Amber turned from the allip, it had already drained some of her focus and her eyes looked glassy with anger.

“Fine,” she replied, “On my mark.”

Amber moved towards the boar as Sapphire slipped before the allip.

“It’s just a boar,” said Amber in confusion, “I can hold it with a spell,”

Elle stared intently at the beast, “No, it’s not going to work,”

Shaking her head from the babbling voice of the allip, Amber threw the spell against the far wall. Vines sprung out of the floors and walls, covering everything in its wake. Sighing softly, Amber felt the branches weave around her body and she slumped wearily against the wall, entangled in her own spell.

A strange fire glowed in Elle’s eyes as she drew her morningstar, a silent revenge for he who had fallen. Chanting, Elle enhanced her weapon despite Amber’s protests and brought it down hard upon the boar. The creature squealed in pain but Elle’s wrath did not end. She struck it again and with a flash of light, the boar disappeared.

Gasping in surprise, Amber stared at where the summoned creature had stood, relieved that it had not been a real boar. Smiling brightly, she flashed a triumphant grin to Elle as they turned to see Sapphire fighting the allip, Grind in its flank.

Honesty:

1) We lost one of our graphic designers, who decided to become a full-time illustrator. That has complicated things.

2) Both conversion guides were late, probably because of Gen Con.

We're putting the final edits into InDesign this afternoon, and the thing should be up in a couple of days.

OK Eric,

I have leared by now a couple of days in Eric time = like weeks to us serfs out here in the fields. You posted this Wednesday. A couple days later it was Friday. Now over half a week later, it's Monday. Can we have another update please?

Then there are subscribers like me that tend to look for something once it's promised to you. Would I cancel my subscription to Dungeon without the online supplements? No. But when the editor tells me next week we will post the next installment, which btw was almost 4 weeks ago Mr. Mona, I tend to expect it.

I'm guessing late next week. A few pieces are taking longer to assemble than I'd hoped. I may post the Eberron conversion notes on this thread to help you out if I remember to check it tomorrow.

Now I am not in the business of publishing magazines, so I don't know what all goes into the thing, but obviously when you said one more week, you thought that's all it would take. So I am curious what un-planned event(s) happened to push this back?

A little honesty and common courtesy go a long way in a relationship.

Here's my take on dragons and the Age of Worms in Eberron. Bear in mind, this is a bare bones outline, providing the beginning of a rationale for the dragons' involvement. There's a lot more I want to do with the back stories of Kyuss and the Wind Dukes to tie it all together with Eberron. I'll post more when I have it.

Dragotha, a young and idealistic member of the Chamber, foresaw the coming of the Age of Worms written in the sky millenia ago. He urged his fellows to work with him at preventing it, but to his great frustration the other Chamber members were content to adopt a “wait and see” attitude. As century after century passed, Dragotha's frustration turned to bitterness and anger. He eventually came to believe that nothing could prevent the onset of the disaster. Whether this conclusion was based on an honest assessment of the facts or tainted by his growing resentment is difficult to say, but nonetheless Dragotha decided that the only way to save Eberron was by bringing about its ruin. The sooner the cataclysm struck, the sooner it could be moved past and another, better Age could begin.

Dragotha labored on in solitude, painstakingly searching the heavens and earth for clues, piecing together bit by bit the sequence of events needed to start the Age of Worms. The quest began to take a toll on the red dragon's mind and he grew obsessed with allowing nothing to prevent his completing it - not even death. The search for the power of Kyuss had brought Dragotha into contact with many branches of the necromantic arts. He learned the ritual of lichdom and eagerly embraced undeath as a means of continuing his work. Over time, he was finally able to recruit other, younger, dragons such as Ilthane and Lasshona, to his cause. Originally attracted by the idea of saving the world, Dragotha's servants have over the decades become as corrupt as their master.

That's really good. But wouldn't the Chamber want to get involved in order to stop this from happening? Or...

While your ideas are fresh and exciting I think you are completely missing the idea of The Chamber. The Chamber would not "wait and see." That's what the rest of dragonkind would do. The Chamber is different because they believe that they need to take a more active roll. If the Prophecy shows itself to them they wish to aid it so that it comes true as soon as possible. With that in mind, let's revist the above passage.

Dragotha could be a young, idealistic member of the Chamber, who foresaw the coming of the Age of Worms. This Age could directly interfere with the Prophecy (as a DM I recommend you flesh out how exactly it interferes so you know why the Chamber wants to prevent it from happening). Perhaps instead of turning to the Chamber for help (which he shouldn't have to do), he turned to the rest of Dragonkind, who preferred to just sit and wait. The Chamber isn't a secret from the rest of dragonkind and even divulges it's findings to the elder dragons.

The rest that was written works out just fine. If you want more intrigue, simply toss another power group in there that could oppose the Chamber. Perhaps the Mosaic Committee. While they don't want the Age of Worms to come to bear, they believe that certain parts of it could aid in the destruction of the Prophecy, so they are more than glad to participate. But perhaps they under-estimated the power of the AoW and in trying to use it to destroy Draconic Prophecy they set something in motion in which they could not stop alone....

There are so many options with Eberron. I would be happy to discuss more ideas if you would like. Just say the word!

My game too is set in Eberron. THey just finished the Whispering Cairn In my party I have:

Lady Elle d'Cannith - female human artificer 3
Grind - male personality warforged fighter 3
Lady Amber d'Valadis - female human cleric 3
Sapphire - female dwarf Rogue 2 / Bard 1

Elle has set out on her own in search of herself. She has decided at this time not to accept aid from her house, but still performs work for them by creating items for the local blacksmith in Diamond Lake. She has recently manifested the Least Mark of Making but has kept that fact hidden from society and her family. With her travels her warforged companion, Grind. Grind was created by her family as a guardian and companion. Currently Elle is trying to come to terms with what her roll will be in Cannith South as she can feel the energies inside her growing.

Lady Amber d'Valadis has also arrived in town from the nation of Thrane. She fled Thrane for fear of persectution as a member of the Host of the Faithful. Now in Diamond Lake, she cares over the horses of one of the local mine managers and hopes to magebreed on of his finest white stallions.

Sapphire, from the displaced nation of Cyre has lost her memory and is fleeing an unknown foe. She is in Diamond Lake working as a laborer in the mines. Having overheard a group of adventureres talking about riches in one ot he cairns he quickly told his boss's employee and friend Lady Amber d'Valadis of the news. The two, knowing they might run into trouble, decided to bring along Lady Elle d'Cannith and her mighty warforged, just in case.

Recently it appears that they have stumpled upon not only treasure, but an apocolyptic prohecy of sorts. It all began when the ghost of one Alaster Land sent them on a mission to bury his remains. This led them to the Old Observitory where a strange Karnnathian named Filge was rumored to be living. According to their information, he had hired Kullen's group to get him some bones for his experiments.

Having thouroughly ransked the Observitory and destroying all of Filge's experiments, Filge broke down in fear as the warforged loomed over him. He told the party his friend Balebar had brought him here to investigate some strange happenings in town. He also spoke of the prophecy of the Age of Worms. He told them of the Ebon Triad. This coupled with Sapphire mysterioulsy being able to understand the nature of the fresoc's in the true tomb has led the party to believe that they are in the middle of history in the making.

Broke once more, the group wishes to travel to Sharn, but doesn't have the means to do so. So instead they feel they need to confront Balebar Smenk about what's going on down in the Dourstone Mines.

It's never coming out. Thank god my group just finished the Whispering Cairn last night and it took them five 4 hour sessions to do so.

Knights of Columbus, release this thing already!

Can we get another update? Is GenCon going to delay this?

I hope this isn't a pattern of delay we'll see throughout the adventure path. I'm starting 3FoE tonight, and will probably catch up to the magazine within a few months. I don't want this to hold up my games.

Anyone else running Eberron AoW? How are you doing without the conversion?

I am running it in Eberron and so far so good. My PCs are still exploring the Whispering Carin, having just found the mysterious suits of red leather armor. I am going to tie the armor to a group from Morgrave University.

THat's kinda of what I was thinking. It lent itself as a location that made the most sense.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if Keith Baker will continue to write conversions in the supplements? I noticed the issue #125 supplement lacked a conversion but then it appeared in the AoW: Overload supplement. In reading the Overload document, more specifically the synopsis of each adventure that makes up the campaign, several conversion questions arose in my mind. Now, I am not beyond figuring it out for myself, however, any help from Mr. Baker is always appreciated.

I am running my AoW campaign set in Eberron and I read about the Prince in the Overload PDF. I immediately began pondernig where to place this kingdom in the world and if the Prince would stay that character. Hopefully Keith will continue to provide conversions in the supplements as he had for issues #124 and #125. Any light that can be shed on this Eric?

Running this campaign in Eberron (best campaign setting ever!)

Amber Vadalis: Amber is a Thranish born member of House Vadalis. She is a preist for the Host of the Faithful.

Sapphire: Dwarven Rogue who is a Cyran refugee with an unknown past.

Elle d'Cannith: Human Artificer who is dragonmarked

Grind: Male Personality Warforged guardian of Elle.

I am curious how you fellow DMs began your AoW campaign. Did you start off with your players in the mining shop ready to head out to the Whispering Cairn, or did you do some story to lead up to all of this?

Just so I can be updated - This may stop me repeatedly checking this thread (or it may not :) )

Just watch, we will be here next week, talking about the same thing.

Well I got my sept issue of Dungeon in the mail yesterday. Still no overload. That makes me sad. :(

Erik Mona wrote:

You're not going to get that in the Overload, which includes a detailed campaign outline of all 12 adventures, tons of stat blocks for Diamond Lake, additional information on the region surrounding Diamond Lake, and conversion appendices for Eberron and the Forgotten Realms.

The "hook" is this: Adventurers from the Free City come to town looking for riches in the Stirgenest Cairn. The heroes, residents of Diamond Lake with a reason to want to leave, know that the Stirgenest Cairn is empty of treasure, but know of another cairn that probably does contain some unplundered goods. They pull together to raid the place in hopes of raising enough funds to get out of Diamond Lake (which after all is a bit of a hole).

If that hook doesn't work for you, the Diamond Lake backdrop provides literally dozens of NPCs who might put the PCs on the path. If one of the characters is tied to the garrisson, perhaps Valuks Dun or Tolliver Trask put them on the scent of the Cairn, having discovered its location on one of Dietrik Cicaeda's old maps after their curiosity was piqued thanks to the arrival of the Free City adventurers.

Or maybe the superior of a PC cleric's church suggests that the PCs check out the cairn.

Or start the thing in a tavern, with a conversation with one of the three adventurers from the Free City.

If none of these ideas work for you, perhaps a thread asking for specific advice would be in order?

--Erik

Any hints as to the content of the Eberron conversion stuff? There was already some in the #124 online supplement.

It seems to me there is no clear cut way on how to get the party from Diamond Lake to the Whispering Cairn. I mean why would they go there? The article just seems to start with them at the entrance to the Cairn. How did they get there? I am hoping the Overload thing answers these questions.

Overload will help in the same way that the Diamond Lake backdrop helps; by presenting more information about the region surrounding the area. The party's reasons for going to the Whispering Cairn should come naturally out of their makeup and their character histories. The assumed lure is the fact that Diamond Lake's a terrible place and that one of the PCs discovers this old forgotten cairn that's SURELY filled with treasure.

One of the things that we're trying to do with Age of Worms is to give the PCs the feeling that they're driving the story, not that they're just following orders given to them by NPCs. There's still some of that in the campaign, but not nearly as much as in the Shackled City campaign (which had NPCs handing out quests even when the PCs were the highest level characters in the area).

I certainly hope so. Right now it seems much like the adventure begins with them all entering the Cairn. Whereas I would like there to be a clear cut reason for them going out there, how they know about it. Perhaps some intrigue leading up to it.
