Blah.
Honestly, the "automagically evil" aspect of the vampire template is stupid. Most GM's I personally know waive that requirement and shift especially in the case of a vampire PC.
Now, don't get me wrong. Vampires, as undead still are negative energy beings and the need to feed and such certainly play well and generally cause characters to invariably shift to evil...over time. You'll certainly have an evil aura being a negative energy being one way or another. But, poofing into existence evil doesn't play very well; after all, this isn't exactly Buffy the Vampire Slayer where vampires are essentially demons that retain memories and aspects of the dead's personality.
Likewise, vampire PC's ought to have the freedom to play whatever alignment they choose. It can be a nifty role-playing challenge and experience, especially if you're role-playing a fall or a desperate attempt to cling to the heroism and good of the character's former life.
Okay, you made me just seriously reconsider making a vampire. In fact, I'm gonna scurry off and do just that, and I'll probably quote you if my DM has any doubts.
