Born a Chelaxian slave, Beau never knew his family with the one exception of his twin sister, Amelia. Halflings are second class citizens, a slave race born to serve the other races. That is what Beau was taught all his life and he never questioned it. Beau and his sister were both owned by a human named Azarel Jaden, a minor noble in Cheliax living in Westcrown.
Beau's life was irrevocably changed in a single day. Master Jaden arranged passage on a pleasure cruise through the Inner Sea docking in many of the port towns. To this day Beau still remember how excited Amelia was at getting to see Absolam the "City and the Center of the World." The cruise docked at several cities along the coast of the Inner Sea, it wasn't until the boat docked in Almas in Andoran that the trouble began. Master Jaden took my sister and I out to wait on him while he explored the city. This was master Jaden's first trip outside Cheliax, when a group of Eagle Knights noticed his two slaves they set upon Master Jaden to "save" my sister and I. Master Jaden ran for the docks and we followed as best we could. When Master Jaden neared the ship the guards on the ship gave him sanctuary. When my sister and I reached the docks she set up the docking ramp first, beating me by only a step. When I attempted up the ramp next, the Eagle Knight grabbed me pulling me away. I struggled hard to get free but the knight kept trying to tell me I was "safe" now, that I had been saved. I didn't understand for a long time.
The Eagle Knight took me to the temple in Almas where a cleric of Desna took me in. During my stay there I noticed many Halflings, not slaves but free, making their own choices and running their own lives. The clerics in the temple began to teach me, educate me, that Desna decrees that all the races are free to live their lives, to travel where they want. The more I learned the more I fell in love, I finally understood why the Knight had risked his life to get me free of Master Jaden. Even if I was not mistreated, it would still have never been my life. I embraced the teachings of Desna and took full advantage of the temple and learned all that I could, so that one day I could help others like me. More than anything else, I wanted to save Amelia like I had been saved.
I set out for Westcrown returning to Master Jaden's home only to find it sold to another. I questioned within the city to find that Master Jaden had been attacked in Andoran years ago and the injury had become infected and he passed on the ship near Absalom. It took weeks but I finally bought passage to Absalom in hopes of finding what happened to Amelia. It was here the trail went dead. The cruise ship kept no records of slaves, only passengers. No one I could find had any information of the freedom of my sister or her purchase. I prayed to Desna hoping she would show me the way. That night I had dreams of my sister and a place known as the Pathfinder Lodge.
Inquiries within I found they payed able bodies men and women to explore the world looking for lost treasures and history. With no other clues to go on I joined in hopes that I would be able to help those in need, gain free travel to see this wonderful world, and most of all find Amelia somewhere in my travels.
