----------------------------
Round 1, Init 16
It takes moment to shake off the overwhelming, nauseating evil emanating from the rift. When his senses return, Beagan calls on the Lady I to hasten the end of this creature and its intrusion into the realm of mortals.
Beagan casts Haste on entire party (Assuming all are within 30' of each other.)
With a flick of the wrist covered with the drawing of the shining sword, the Gnome touches himself.
Lay on Hands - self:1d6 ⇒ 3(swift)
Drawing his sword, he moves towards the enemy Hasted single move (40') towards demon
When Serra approaches the fallen demon, Beagan relaxes a bit, feeling the worst of the most immediate danger has past. But with Serra's first blow to the decimated, riddled corpse, the image of the knight slicing into his fallen, unconscious halfling friend comes rushing through him, roiling nautiously in his now very queasy stomach.
As Serra's difficult beheading continues, the vision of how he ended Nurah turns into worse memories, the sound of each chop bringing forth a heinous aural nightmare surging through his rattled mind. Each strike shudders through the Gnome as he relives his worst experiences of evil slicing, smashing, sundering, and torturing helpless beings - dead or alive. The steady chop-chop-chop into a foe's form, interspersed with commentary, evokes a visceral memory of the thump-thump-thump of whips and barbs and iron against the little folk of the Tanglebriar.
Gratified to see the vermin queen's head removed, but sickened by the repetitious thudding of weapon on body, with each chop, Beagan's face grows paler, tauter, and fiercer. Serra's dedication to beheading a corpse - or finishing off a live foe - just evoke too many memories of the non-chalant way the cultist's treated the halflings and the fey.
Remembering what the Lady said, he calls upon Iomedae to show him true evil. (Detect Evil)
Assuming Serra does not detect as evil…
He blinks, stunned for a moment as the thump-thump-thump of memories wash through him, biting his lip as he gets his answers and wonders if he can trust the gods. Calistria would have fed me whatever best fit her plans, right? But Iomedae is not like that - I need to believe in her. She wasn't responsible for the crusaders who burned innocent witches, abandoned their children, or raped virgins, right?
Hoping he can trust Iomedae, he answers Cole's call to circle around Serra, but he also tries to keep one eye on the possibly overwrought knight, as he watches closely for danger - or any signs of treachery.
"Wow, Cole. I thought the Lady's sword was something special, but sometimes I think you are wielding Erastil's own bow!"
Here's to the birthday fun of shredding a big bad with a round of arrows - and to much more enjoyment for the rest of the day!
Beagan watches the swarm, ready to draw upon the blessings of the gods if needed again to blow them off. "Hopefully with their queen gone, maybe most will move along so the army can pass through the gorge. Still, we should keep an eye out for trouble."
With the speed of the godly, Beagan calls upon Lady I. A wild look in his eye, the Gnome calls upon the Herald's power to call forth a wall of wind between Jurin and the demonic swarm. (Wild Arcana mythic power to cast Wind Wall (CL 8) as a swift action.)
With the wall in place, he points again calling forth. "Shining Sword, send your fury!" Summon Monster II - Small Air Elemental
The swirling creature of air appears next to the swarm before turning into a whirl of wind rushing around the little flying demons.

"My little wind might not do much but keep it busy, but the wall should protect us for a bit. Maybe we can go around?" The Gnome doesn't wait but moves forward, looking down the branching tunnel.
"It looks like we might be able to make it to the hole. I could blow some of them away with wind, or use the wind to maybe seal off the hole for a bit. But who knows how deep inside their queen is - if indeed that's we she is - and how many swarms we would encounter inside?"
"Hmmm, can anybody speak Auran? I could ask Lady I to send an air elemental into scout, or an earth elemental instead. But I can't talk to them to describe the queen, or ask them how far away she is - if she is indeed inside of that hole."
"Oh, and Iomedae will grant the gift of speed, too, like Serra can."
The Gnome acknowledges Eli's friends, including the Father and the smith. "Any friends of Eli have my respect."He grins and winks.
Listening to Sera, Eli and Aron, he prays silently a moment for guidance.
Knowledge (planes):1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Beagan will search his oblations for information about the queen - Perhaps special attacks and special defenses?
"These are flying little, little buggers, right? Smaller than smallish small? I wonder if I asked Iomedae to send a small divine burst of air, what that would do to them? It might catch some of them up in it's whirlwind?"
"Oh wait! A wall of wind might be more effective?" 6 rounds, 60' long x 30' high
"We thought you dead? Or worse! Turned to the darkness! I had thought that halfling demon has possessed you...turning you against the good and noble!"
"The sweet halfling maid did have - and will always have - my vow of protection and aid. Watching out for these little folk is my most solemn and utter duty, only second to fighting the demons who use them, pervert them, and wrench their bodies, minds and souls in unspeakable ways. The gods who rattled around my head and sent me on this crusade, well, they told me to take revenge upon those who did the evil deed..." He glares at Serra. "...the killing of any defenseless halfling, let alone a maid who was very dear to me. As I couldn't do their bidding immediately, I fled until I could suss out just what I should do."
Serra wrote:
"Wait, what happened? You had a vision from the Big R? He spoke to you!?"
"No. No vision from the Big R. It was the Lady Iomedae - or at least one of her heralds - who showed me the truth. She revealed the evil that would come from the manipulations of the gods of vengeance whose tendrils had entwined so long and so deeply into my little being - and She showed me the truth of sweet Nurah's fall from service to the deception of the demons."
"The vision from Iomedae revealed that the offer of Erecura, you know - the goddess of hell's subtle vengeance and the Big R's stepmom - well, her deal to bring this Othoe back to strike at the halfling killer would not return a goodly, noble little one to his rightful place, but instead would unleash a monster of undeath. Iomedae helped me see Calistria's subtle desires to strike against the evil that is Mendev - however deserved - might undermine the fight against demons. And She said because of the taint on the fallen Nurah, Ragathiel would probably revel in the vengeance gained by my tainted friend's destruction, instead of seeking revenge for her unnecessary death."
"The Herald of Iomedae severed the hold the firey vengeance gods had on me, so no - I did not talk to the Big R', as I can't serve one who would condone acts I know to be wrong. I will not support the abandonment of children, the burning of the innocent, the rape of the virgins, or the unnecessary slaughter of a defenseless halfling, especially one, as Iomedae indicated and desired, that was still able to be saved."
"The herald agreed to remove the vengeful deities' grip on my warped little form if I agreed to serve Her. I've rejected the vengeance of the Big R', and so I guess I'm a fallen Paladin, an ex-servant of the fiery god. Xanthos, his holy mount, is gone, and I expect the Lord R's vengeance could fall upon me at some point. I only hope I can get some licks in against the demons before that happens."
"Oh yeah, and the herald said now that I serve the Valorous Lady, I should wield this wicked sword in Her name."
The Gnome shrugs. "If there are demons menacing here, this is where I want to be. The Lady's herald brought me here - she is the one with the good timing. Could have never made it here by myself." Crinkled blue eyes look down at the massive holes torn into the demon by deeply biting arrows. "I don't have Cole's shot, or your hammer, or Jurin's wisdom, or Serra's invisible squire. The demons are too strong, too crafty, too treacherous."
About to answer briefly, he sees Serra's expectant gaze, and so therefore begins a Beagan-scale rattling... about something."But the Shining Swordswoman showed me I'm too headstrong to be vengeful. Me and vengeance? Not a good combination." He shakes his head vigorously at Serra. "Vengeance can lead to some very unpleasant things."
He shrugs. "So thanks to the Heraldic Lady, I'm just fighting demons now, only no longer as a Paladin. Kinda had a, well, ya know, falling out with the gods who were rattling around my head. They weren't - ummm, I guess - moral enough? Wanted me to do nasty things. I mean, I know, growing up with the Calistrians, I shouldn't be surprised, but..."
"The Lady of Stings wanted vengeance - vengeance upon the child-abandoning, virgin-sacrificing, witch-burning, defenseless-halfling killing knights. I get that, but I think it's more important to battle the demons than to let revenge against the addle-brained take precedence."
"The Big R's step-mom, ya know she's the Queen of Hell, almost had me convinced to serve her as she would return this very beautiful halfling to his rightful place. A very tempting offer, as this Othoe was an incredibly charismatic and attractive one, but then the Herald showed me how he turned all boney and evil and stuff. Not a good thing to do, even if protecting him would fulfill my most sacred oath - well, I guess the second most, after fighting demons."
"And the Big R' would apparently exact vengeance on a defenseless halfling. All the more blood-thirsty because she was once good and had fallen into temptation. So all three of them would put aside fighting demons to seek vengeance in some kind of extremely evil way."
"On the other hand, I had a great talk with the Lady I. She would fight demons, but not use evil to further those ends. That's a god I can get behind without compromising the most central tenants of my being, defending the weak and oppressed, especially from demons, protecting defenseless halflings, as was so deeply instilled into me by the demon's lash - and the much, much worse things they do..."And made me do...
If he can charge and leap/jump (part of movement) at the end of the charge...
"The Bright Herald empower my blade!"
The Gnome calls upon the Gods to empower his wild arcana and allow him to launch himself at the enemy. (Uses mythic power to cast Jump) Filled with Iomedae's blessing, he charges at the flying demon, attempting to leap and smite his sworn enemy.

Each strike on the halfling's form brings another horrifying memory surging forth. With each arrow, the Gnome has a vision of a whip slicing deeply into innocent flesh, with each electric shock Beagan sees the hot iron searing a brand into her soft hide, and each blade reminding him of the knife etching its cruel patterns into her tender skin.
"ไม่มี! ไม่อีกครั้ง!"
Ignan:
"No! Not again!"
As the halfling falls, a bit of hope arises in the Gnome, that the attacks would stop once she went unconscious, giving this one at least some relief, as sometimes happened before. When he sees Serra's cruel blade slide into the small one's flesh, the memory of the red hot poker penetrating Marret for the final time overwhelms him.

Extreme anger courses through the Gnome, the fires of vengeance for all that demonds had done to the wee, innocent folk, the memories releasing in a high fury. The knightly Gnome interposes himself between the innocent halfling girl and those who threaten her.
Thought I was a round behind, so I posted two sets of roles last time, so...
Keen bunny ears letting him know of the kerfuffle, Xanthos nudges Beagan. The Gnome mounts his ride, and the pair starts towards the commotion. "We're coming, Cole!"
Oh no, she was with that team, right!"C'mon Xanthos, gotta get over there. Nurah was with them, so she might be in danger!"
The Gnome steels himself, unable to bear the though of losing another halfling. I knew bringing a small one out here, even one as talented as her, was too dangerous!
After thoroughly working through the knights and stablehands, the battle bunny's ears perk up, his head slipping slightly to the side as his nose twitches.

Beagan turns to Amber. "What was that? 'NO!?!' Sounds like Serra is being over-dramatic again. Not that I've ever been accused of...." A bit of an embarrassed smile crosses the Gnome's face. "Oh. Maybe it's a knight thing?"
Beagan looks back and forth from Aron and Sosiel, arching his eyebrow at the insult spat at Elyanius.
This isn't good."Everybody please remain civil, lest we encourage the discord our enemies wish upon us."Oh Big R'! What are we coming to if I'm the calm, sensible one? If the High Priestess could only see me now...
He listens carefully to Serra. "If we are sniffing, I'll make to sure have Xanthos with me."He can sniff better than me, and can guard the sniffers better than me.
Beagan slips out and follows the lad leading to the "commotion," but keeps his gaze on the surrounding area. He's looking at people's reactions, and especially trying to see if anyone or anything catches his eye.
Perception:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
Hmmmm. Never realized just how much human crusaders all look alike to me....
"We left Kenabres fully trusting the Queen to equip us with purity of heart and strength, and she has failed us."
The Gnome stands as tall as, well, a little Gnome can, his back straight, his head high, his hand gripping the pommel of his sword in nervous determination. "I share your concerns, Sir Elyanius, in a big way. And sometimes it helps to be provocative, to shake people out of their complacency. But I don't think it's helpful to lay this potential failure on the feet of the one most here trust and revere above all. If there is one among us who has been compromised, and not just somebody trailing us and provoking us from the outside, then it is a failure at all levels. Those trusted to gather the group together, to re-check the group, would include all of us. We trusted the Queen, who trusted Jothinra, who trusted no doubt loyal lieutenants. If there is a failure it is as much ours, you and I included, as it is Her Majesty's or any of her trusted lieutenants, as we trusted them."
He scowls. "Indeed, based on our comments, I would say it is you and I who should have known better, who may have failed the most, as we seem to have more understanding than the others of how the enemy than undermines even those of pure intent, and turns innocents into agents of evil."
"Provoking those knights who are good and loyal more likely to play into their hands, undermining good leadership and unity, as it is to shake people from their complacency."
"So, what weapons do we have to route out a possibly invisible enemy? Everything on the table."
"I'm afraid my weapons are pretty straightforward. Mostly the Big R' sent me a fast moving mount with big teeth and big ears who can see in the dark. He empowers me to boost and protect Xanthos, to focus some very minor magics, and to summon other creatures if Xanthos isn't here. His firey vengeance has given me a little healing touch, to grant a little protection from evil, and to smite my enemies just a bit."Well, not only His vengeance, but unfortunately that of the other Two, as well.
He works over the all jumbling callings, blessings and banes bouncing around his head. "I can channel vengeance to cause harm to demons near the Big R's symbol. It would hurt them a little, but probably not enough to make them reveal themselves."
"Oh. And Iomedae kissed me! Um, it allows me to quicken and empower Xanthos even more."
After rattling on, he realizes that might not be what Cole meant by lay everything on the table. "Um. I fight."
Beagan wonders just what such magics will reveal, for good or ill. A traitor is bad. Well-meaning folks tearing at each other over deep dark secrets may be worse.
The Gnome follows to the gathering of the lords, thinking this might not be the best time to offer his suggestion to Cole.
Watching mostly quietly from the side, Serra's suggestion keeps bouncing around his mind. "Cole, I think Serra's idea about asking Jothinra has merit. The Lord Ragathiel has not granted me that ability yet..."Of course, that could have something to do with the Queen's interest in me, but..."Ahem. But it's probably worth having someone with insight into evil double-check things when they can. Our threat could be a cloaked stalker, but it could be someone here, too. At least the cultists in the 'Briar prided themselves on such... infiltration."
When he hears what sounds like Serra's challenge to Eli, his eyes widen and his jaw goes slack, no words spilling from his usually moving mouth. His eyes dart back and forth between Serra and Eli, wondering if he's misinterpreting what's being said. Humans don't speak the same way as Elves, but...
"Such magics may advance our knowledge... but they also may bring out things you don't want to know."Or perhaps I don't want you to know? The Ladies of Fire seem to want me to hold things close to the vest.
Beagan has a thing or two on his mind he wants to share with Cole, and was told he was seen entering the triage tent.
Entering Tentage:
Serra wrote:
"Dead, are you sure!? That doesn't make sense! Did they take poison? How did they die?"
"Who would take poison? Cultists would have to be promised something very spectacular in death to end the struggle to fulfill their passions in this life." And then he spots the bodies of three knights who decidedly do not look like cultists "Oh. OH! By the Big R', they wouldn't. They couldn't!"
Grateful that his mount is sure on his feet again, Beagan attempts to leap back into the saddle.
