Background:
Barid was a human rogue who worships Tymora. His dad was a member of the Fellows of Free Fate, and mom was a Tester. Both were rogues (dad's a second story man, mom is more of the cat burglar type). Baird was born in 1374, during one of the meteor strikes that were battering the world and signaling the start of something big, and devastating. His parents were smart, and knew that their services would be needed by the clergy of Tymora. When the clergy stopped hearing the words of their deity, the situation overall could not have been much worse. The first few years of Barid's existence, his parents worked for a patron that kept Baird hidden, while the adults went to look for artifacts to help the clergy retain some of their power. This proved to be a useless endeavor, but it kept Barid safe.

Barid grew up knowing of little else (who would want to be a barrister or moneylender, for crying out loud) but the clergy. When his parents weren't out helping their patron, he was taught the basics of thievery, in the name of the church of course... In turn, the church gave him a basic education. He is literate, unlike most in his profession, and he can read not only the common tongue, but Draconic and Elven, both tough languages to master. But it is the profession of thief that Barid excelled in. His parents retired when he was 8, and died soon thereafter. By 9, he was working as a second story man for another local thief, and together, got Barid his first weapon, a masterwork dagger. He has one other from those days, mostly for sentimental value, but still quite functional. He has used them innumerable times over the years in the pinch.

During his formative years, while he expanded into lockpicking/safecracking, Barid learned early on to stick to what he knew best. An inside job turned bad when another worker learned of his plans by accident. This left a small scar just below his left shoulder, as the employee tried to stop him, physically. Also, by staying with the church of Tymora, he received a few odd jobs, nothing like his parents, but small jobs that brought some extra money to a church with few wealthy supporters at that time. One of the wizards that created potions for the clergy discovered that Barid had a little magical aptitude in him, and was able to teach him a couple of minor spells before Baird got bored with the process and went back to being a rogue. Still, the occasional disguise self spell has helped him get away from the town guards.

Between 1403 and 1408, during the events of the "Reckoning," the local term for various clergy being heard by their deities, Baird worked more and more with the church in reclaiming magic items. This was the first time he was exposed to Beshaba and their assassins, including demons from the various factions of the Blood War! Barid was shocked when an assassin, attempting to steal the same item as him, changed before his eyes, and started to claw him. Barid bested the demon, but not without taking many wounds himself, including almost losing his arm. The church was able to heal him and reset the arm, but Barid learned a valuable lesson. The daggers that he had relied upon for many years, might have been good against a civilian or the occasional guard, but were next to useless against the supernatural. Barid asked the church to make him two rapiers, extra sharp to slice through anything. It cost him almost all of his savings, but he felt that it was worth it. Several assassins have since fallen to his blades Mellon (elven for 'friend') and Cotuno (elven for 'enemy').

Despite his precautions, it has not been easy to protect the church as he has been tasked. The clergy of Tymora have been lying low, trying to marshal their strength, against the coming tide of the demons. There has been talk that deities are choosing mortals as Chosen ones to fight the big battles against the forces of evil. Barid has fought off demons several times, including his worse battle to date. Several assassins, demons, and would be thieves have fallen under his blade. However, his most recent battle was nearly his last. It was rumored that a deck of many things had been found in a cave or dungeon complex near Waterdeep. It was the inherent luck of the draw that drew in the church, as well as Barid. He set out in this quest, only to find out too late that it was an elaborate trap setup by elements of the Beshaba clergy to trap and kill one of their top rogues. Barid fought well, and fell several assassins and ninjas, but there were simply too many of them. As it appeared that his days were finally numbered, a brilliant bright light filled the chamber that Barid was fighting in. That's the last thing that Barid remembers.

Having suffered such grievous wounds, Barid was evacuated to Waterdeep to begin the long process of recovering. Magical healing had begun to help, when Barid was killed in his sleep. He would not have likely survived in his weakened condition, but it seemed clear that whoever killed him knew the best time to strike despite precautions from the church and whoever (or whatever) it was that rescued him.
