"Why Ulven I didn't know you had such a lovely voice! Do you play the fiddle as well?"

Ulven takes the crockery, sniffs it and takes a swig. He passes it next to Rhade.

Happy New Year!

Rhade takes a sip before passing it on to Baran.

"Thank you it certainly takes away a bit of the chill away from my little "dip"" Rhade nods back to Dirdelle.

"Thank you friend." Baran says to Dirdelle with a nod and a smile and passes it back to Dirdelle after taking a swig from the flask.

"I believe I remember seeing a temple on the north side of town where we should be able to get Mr. Chod some assistance."

"Ulven, if you'll lead the way towards the north entrance, Dirdelle and I will help support this gentleman in case his injuries are worse than we thought and Rhade if you will take rear guard that would be appreciated. Etrac, Ree, Catalina, and Halungalom, if you care to join us you're more than welcome and thanks for the help."

Once everyone is back on the surface and Baran wraps his rope back up he turns to the group.

"Rhade is right. Lets get this gentleman to the priest and speak with the Sheriff in regards to what we have found.

Baran heads down the rope, over to the pillar and lets them know that they can come back up as Ulven and Rhade haven't found anything else.

FOR CHARACTERS IN ALLEY

You study the walls but nothing seems to standout as a way for the attackers to get away from the alley without going out either end or down the drain. Footsteps startle you and Ulven returns coming into the alley from the same way you all entered it origianly.

Ulven slips into the alley and grunts a greeting. Taking a moment, he sits down, pulls off his boots and empties them of sewage back into the grate.

"STRANGE PILLAR DOWN THERE. FOLLOWED THE TUNNEL. EXITS NEAR A WHOREHOUSE. NO SIGN OF ATTACKER."

"Thanks friend. If you want to take the rope I'll go down and let everyone know they can come back up."

Halungalom wrote:
"So.. with them down there, and us up here.. what should we do? I'm too small to go down, maybe there's something for us to do up here? We could at least tell the sheriff (or constable, or mayor, or captain of the guard, etc.) what's going on, right?"

"Why don't one of us step around the corner and quietly explain the situation to Ms. Ameiko and ask her to go speak with both the sheriff and the high priest while we keep an eye Mr. Chodd. She seems like a pretty level headed individual who we can trust to be discreet. That should give our friends down in the sewer a few minutes to see if they find anything else of interest to the sheriff. What do you think?"

Baran is going to study the buildings on either side of the alley looking for windows, balconies, etc. to see if there was anyway for someone to get to the roof and to see if maybe someone could have witnessed the attack.

Rhade wrote:
"Do you want to head down there?" Rhade asks Baran looking around for somewhere suitable to tie off the rope.

"I'll wait up here and keep an eye on Mr. Chodd. We'll need to get him to the temple to get him patched up and someone will need to notify the sheriff of the attack. A werewolf is a man who turns into a monster and that matches with the markings so we may have found a clue to the attacks and if so the sheriff will need to be notified. I suggest you go down and catch up with the others; an extra pair of sharp eyes will help. If you find something let us know and I'll get someone to escort Mr. Chodd to the temple and come down and join you."

As Baran holds the rope he directs his attention to the others.

"Perhaps hasty introductions are in order. My name is Baran Caranthir and this is Rhade and my compatriot down in the sewer is Ulven. I am a bounty hunter by trade and these two gentlemen are my friends and partners. We've come to Sandpoint in hopes of meeting Shalelu and garnering some information on the whereabouts of a bugbear brigand named Bruthazmus. That was Dirdelle who just went down to join Ulven."

Ulven Dragonskin wrote:

Ulven will immediately call up to Baran in his rough voice, "BOOT PRINTS UP THE WALL. NO SIGN OF ESCAPE DOWN 'ERE. THROW DOWN ROPE."

Ulven will then take a moment and sweet his hand through the sewage at the base of the opening to look for any dropped items the attacker might have left.

Baran pulls the rope out of his backpack, toss one end down to Ulven and sets himself to hold the rope while Ulven climbs up.

"Don't forget my arrow."

Baran examines the inside of the sewer shaft for any markings that are out of the ordinary.

"As you wish," she says and says a short prayer to cayden Cailean. A few seconds later the arrow glows with a soft, warm light.

"Thank you friend."

Baran turns to the sewer entrance and speaks to Ulven.

"Ulven watch out, here's a light for you to see by. I'll be down in a moment."

Baran drops the arrow down into the sewer to Ulven.

As Ulven jumps down into the sewer Baran takes the knocked arrow from his bow and holds it up.

"Dirdelle, would you be able to provide a light spell on this arrow for me?"

Catalina Stand's abruptly, slightly offended bt Baran's words "And You are something of a wilderness type, by the looks of it. Why don't you keep your beast under control over there?" She says smugly, pointing at Ulven. She pulls from her waist a silver holy symbol of Nethys.

"Just to make sure, Chodd." She reassures the butcher before touching it against his wound

"Please, no need to bandy shallow insults. The point is that we are all here because we think we can help. So if there is anything any of us can do to find the creature responsible and help Mr. CHodd, then we should do it."

Mythril DM wrote:

The trail of blood ends outside the door where it lies in a big pool and drips into the storm drain outside the Markets back door. Close inspection of the door reveals several claw marks raked into the woodwork.

Chod stammers, "It attakced me outside as I was leaving for the night."

"Hmmmm, there's claw marks on the woodwork of the door. I apologize for all of the questions as I'm sure you want to get to the priest as soon as possible but these claw marks, do you know if they happened during the attack and how do you know what attacked you was a werewolf and not just a starved dog or wolf?"

Baran looks up at the buildings forming the alleyway to see if there are any windows facing the alley or any places to perch from. He's wondering if someone may have seen what happened from a windor or if the werewolf could have jumped down from above and attacked Chod.

Perception (sight/sound) check = 28

Knowledge: Dungeoneering (1d20+6=24)

Does Baran recall anything specific about werewolves and what is considered general knowledge about them?

"Does anyone know anything about werewolves?"

Catalina wrote:
... "Well Don't just stand there and let that foul beast escape." she says calmly while pondering over how to bandage this wound, directing the more martial looking types towards the trail of blood.

"You're a wizard by the looks of it. Why don't you use your magic to find the beast and slay it?" Baran says sarcastically, obviously not expecting a response, while looking about for any sign of the creature who caused the injury and half wondering if the man didn't injure himself while working late in the butcher's shop.

Mythril DM wrote:

Everyone flocks to the end of the alley and, because of the magical illumination can easily see what is transpiring inside. Crawling and wailing along the ground is a man covered in blood. He is grasping his right arm trying to staunch the flow of blood. As things go bright he looks up and cries out, “I’ve been bitten, the foul werewolf bit me!”

Those of you native to Sandpoint recognize the man as the local butcher Chod Bevuk. He owns and operates the Sandpoint Meat Market. A blood stained apron covers his clothes, some old, some fresh.

Aside from a trail of blood leading from Chod’s prone form to the Markets back door the alley is empty.

As Rhade tends to the man's wounds Baran quickly steps over to the side of the door and peers in, trying to follow the trail of blood.

"Tell us friend. Where were you attacked? In the alley or at the butchers block? Ulven, keep an eye out for the furry beast in case it decides to come back."

Rhade's initiative rolled a 2+2 for a total of 4!

Noting the sudden increase in light Rhade turns to look over his shoulder and notices the mage stepping across to join them with the glowing orbs of light dancing above her.
He briefly nods in her direction before returning his attention to those in front.
" Looks like Sandpoint's been increasing its magic quota again, I'll keep an eye on our magic using friend," Rhade whispers to his two comrades as he keeps an eye on what the new arrival was doing, which thanks to the light source made his elven comrades sight better but also risked announcing their presence to whoever was causing the problem ahead still Rhade couldn't help shaking his head wondering what else would pop out this night.

Decided to correct since the only one Rhade would notice would be the light casting mage

"Good call. Unfortunately it looks like we might have a party."

Baran glances around as other individuals close on the alley.

Baran knocks an arrow and follows Ulven's lead into the alley, straining his senses to get some idea of what is happening.

Initiative = 10
Perception (sight/sound) = 27

Just so everyone is aware, I usually specify in parenthesis what sort of perception check I am rolling.

Alright, Baran is about 1/2 finished. I decided to go with the elf route instead of human.

Question: how are we calculating hitpoints?

See my earlier post for HP

I have a question about the pricing of your Composite Bow. If its supposed to be magical it would cost 8000 way out of your price range.

Thanks for the update on the HP, I've rolled them accordingly and updated my sheet with them.

As for the bow it is not magical. Just a composite longbow with a strength rating of +2 (see description of composite longbow on page 105 if you want to check). Is there a particular way you would like me to represent that on my character sheet? Just let me know and I would be happy to update it.

OK. Baran is done except for his background which I am formulating as we speak. Right now the basic idea is that he is a bounty hunter come to the area looking to capture Bruthazmus and collect his bounty.

Question: what experience point progression are we using?
