About BarachûrgBarachûrg Zamogug (Half-Orc Skald)
Early Life of Barachûrg:
Barachûrg Zamogug is a born and bred native of the Half-Orc enclave of Averaka on the island of Flintyreach in the land of the Linnorm Kings. He is fiercely loyal to Averaka and its people. He is also a devoted follower of Gorum, his family's patron god, and has taken up the Half-Orc practice of ritual tattooing and self-scarring to prove his devotion to Our God of Iron.
Several years ago, Barachûrg, his older sister, Rangild, and their parents, Sancmar and Hirada, went to Magnimar as part of a trading mission from Averaka. Tragedy soon struck, when several of the families, including Barachûrg's family, were in Magnimar conducting business. They were set upon by a gang of slavers, who killed all the parents in an ambush and captured all but one of the children. Only Rangild escaped, to warn the rest of the Averaka Half-Orcs in Magnimar. Barachûrg and the other Half-Orc children were thrown in chains and hidden in a warehouse before the other Half-Orcs could find them. They were destined for slave markets in Katapesh, where "exotic" young children are often sold at high prices to depraved nobility for purposes best not mentioned. A few days later, the children were all loaded on a slave ship bound for Katapesh. The slave ship was soon set upon by the trading vessels from Averaka, alerted by Rangild and waiting for the slave ship to show itself. The "trading" ships were also swift raiders which easily overtook the heavily laden slave ship. The Averaka crews, howling for revenge, were more than a match for the slavers. During the battle for the slave ship, Barachûrg managed to kill two of the slavers with the manacles he was wearing. Several of the children were badly hurt, but none killed, and all recovered fully later. No mercy was shown for any of the slavers. Their heads were all put on pikes not far from Magnimar with a note, written with blood of some of the slavers, as a warning to anyone else looking for slaves from Averaka. Barachûrg and Rangild were then raised by their uncle, Anuth the blacksmith, Hirada's younger brother and a close friend of Sancmar, until they came of age. During that time, Anuth helped Barachûrg forge a spiked chain out of the manacles that he had been forced to wear. He keeps it as a constant reminder of his slain parents. Rangild became a competent raider in her own right. Barachûrg, had more talent for song and poetry. He was tutored off and on by Suota Iron-Tongue, the bardic town councillor of Averaka. Soon enough, Barachûrg, Rangild, and the others captured by the slavers in Magnimar had come of age. Recently, they slipped into Magnimar. They scoured the seedy Underbridge district, found, and then killed all surviving members of the gang that captured them as children. They then quietly slipped out again. They had all become capable adventurers and they all returned safely to Averaka. Unlike Rangild, Barachûrg cannot enter into a full fighting rage. But his songs and oration can inspire others to greater feats of strength and courage in battle. Inspired by the tales of Rangild and her friends, Barachûrg set off in search of adventures of his own. He seeks glory and plunder, but also way to undermine slave networks after his own experiences in Magnimar. Personality:
Barachûrg seems, at first glance, to be reserved and unassuming. However, his talents and desires are to inspire his friends and himself to great deeds in battle and plunder. He won't kill needlessly, but can be as ruthless in battle as any hardened veteran. He is steadfast as a friend. And equally implacable as an enemy. Motivation:
He knows he's not the sturdiest of warriors. He is fiercely loyal to Averaka, but still angered by his brief life of enslavement, he has joined the Liberty's Edge faction of the Pathfinder Society. He fights slavery as a personal vendetta, not as a high-minded freedom fighter, but will look for every way he can to make life miserable for slavers. Crunch:
