They don't have to go to Thistletop, but they do have to live with the in-world consequences of not going.

After an appropriate amount of time (maybe a couple of in game weeks) have Nualia and her goblin forces take the fight to Sandpoint (whether the PC's are there or not). Sim the actual fight in the background if the PC's are not there. Next time they stop back at Sandpoint they can find a couple dozen new gravesites as well as the evaporated good will of the town.

Hopefully whatever they decide to do instead of going to Thistletop was worth it...

Thanks! I ended up biting the bullet and just prepping for 6 possible paths. Whatever they end up choosing I should be good. I should note that they have been pretty patient with me. They are a pretty good group.

I'm looking for advice about how to prep for the next session. The PC's have just cleared Fort Rannick and they plan to clear out the tunnels under it next session. It won't take them long.

My concern is that there are 6 options for them to proceed and I really am unsure on how to prepare for the next session. As I see it, they my look for the Commander, go after the ogres, investigate the dam, or... they may want to journey to one of the locations of the 3 maps they found. I have limited time to prep.

I want to keep things as open as possible for them, not looking to put them on rails, but it will take me a couple hours per choice.

I should mention that we are all beginners (hence the long amount of prep I usually have to do before gaming session), we have about a year (IRL) under our belts by now, but this is the first time I've felt overwhelmed and unsure about what to do.

If it helps for your answer, we usually play 6 hours per session, it took them one session to clear the Graul farm.
