There's an inordinate overlap between gamers and the "everything Japanese is automatically cool" crowds.

Real Nipponophiles know that not everything Japanse is cool...

like the rape of Nanking, comfort women, suicide bombers...just to name a few.

Whoa, how'd you miss out on Venture Bros.? It's easily been the funniest, smartest show on TV for the past few years. If you're a Dr. Orpheus fan, check out the season 2 ep when he tries to reform his old super-group and auditions for a super-villain.

Hard to believe, but I think season 2 actually topped season 1, especially the finale.

Yeah, I don't have a T.V. so I have to find out about these things in other ways. Sometimes I miss T.V. but then I would NEVER get even half the writing I need to do done if I had one. I try to find out what I can from my buddies (who have impeccable taste...I'm looking at you BVic!).

I LOOOOVE Dr. Orpheus!

Yo Nick!

Did you guys finish the rest of season 2. What an ending! Can't wait for season 3.

Awesome Mr. Keegan.

Just one question...Do you dab?

Hey Scott,

Sounds like you got a pretty good group. However if you want to switch up a couple of things, I suggest maybe making the pack of gnolls into a group of goblins. Also, Myo and Harbinger are both pretty deadly. I guess you could switch out her magical kama for plain old master work kama. I think the scaling the adventure side bar may also have some ideas on how to level the playing feild.

I think he filled them with green gatorade.

I say that we shouldn't go through the asian-flavoured parts of fantasy with a fine-toothed comb, either.

It doesn't have to fit chinese history, or japanese. I don't have any problems with a samurai in leather armour with a qiang, fighting some tokkaebi.

This is my feeling exactly. In fact, I get really annoyed at the Asia fanbois who freak out if something is done that doesn't match up perfectly with real-world Asia. And to them I say: get over yourself. It's just a game.

Amen

I hate it when an Asian setting is pigeon holed into Japan or China only. So many lands and cultures to explore and draw from in Asia.

Hey, Anceint Sensei!
I'm well. How about you? You got to check out the Venture Bros. Real good stuff.

"I made them a F@#$ING Milkshake"

Dr. Orpheus is the best!

Yeah, got finish the rest of the sseason 2.

Wow, this is though. Tim, GGG, Richard, sorry guys I have to go with Nick or he may feed me to his next villian.

It's a raptor-type dinosaur, like a velociraptor or a deinonychus, althoguh its shape is kind of its own design. So while not technically one of them, you can pretty much use the velociraptor stats from the Eberron campaign setting or the deinonychus stats from the Monster Manual.

Thanks James! I'm loving the dino action in STAP. My group hasn't even made it to the Isle of Dread yet, but my guy will be in his element when we do. We got pirates and dinosaurs, I'm just waiting for the ninjas to drop in.

Domo,
Brendan

Hey all, I got my issue of 144 and was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of dinosaur or lizard is running around with the Druid iconic. I'm playing sort of a Dino Druid in STAP and am looking for more saurians to swell my ranks.

Thanks

I know the sword was not always the iconic weapon; but during much of the Sengoku period, the period most well known and liked, the sword was the main weapon. And, isn;t a sword just cooler?

You are right, though, An archer alternate would be good; I think alternate styles would be great too.

I like the tetsubo and no-dachi myself. Thing is these were weapons seen more during the Kamukura period. Most Bushi and Samurai were proficent in all weapons(Yari, Naginata, bow and both swords all while fighting from foot or horseback), but it wasn't until after Sengoku and in the Tokugawa era that focus falls mainly on swords and dueling. This is when the Niten(two sword school comes to be in a world of hundreds of differnt sword schools all with there own "special style."

I think the Samurai and Ronin class are both flawed and can be ajusted to fit a more historical profile. Think about the figther class, so many feats and so many ways to customize your warrior and his perfered weapon. So the Sam class should start with a weapon focus and build off that. I like the idea of the class acts that someone had mentioned before. Fighting from horse back was important in Sengoku period, where quick draw and lighting strikes were more important in Tokugawa time where the Yagyu school ruled and was the offical sword school of the Shogun.

I think the main problem with both classes is that their tied to L5R D&D conversion. L5R decent game in its own right, but 3E OA really doesn't hold water with me. But thats another discussion. The Sam class you can work with, the Ronin class is another story. What is the sneak attack all about? Just cause you loose your master for whatever reason doesn't make you and honorless thug. I guess they never saw Seven Samurai.

I love this adventure. Bhuts and hullathoins are some of my favorite creatures. Plus, the pennagolan at the end was an awesome touch. If you ever get around to it, definitely right a sequel.

He has another sequel to finish before he goes diving into WW2.

P.S. I like Bhuts too.

There is an entire web site devoted to Iron Dungeon Master

I believe it is irondm.com Check it out. I has a lot of info about the tornament and how it is run. There is also some pics from last year. Hope to see you there!

I had a blue dragon bloodline monk once(man that is a mouth full) I only played him for one adventure, but I kind of pictured his dark skin had almost a colbalt glimmer and he was bald with a pronouced forehead. He used a stunning headbutt many times that night.

Drow Ninja???????

Drow NINJA??????

RABBI Ninja is more likely than Drow Ninja. Would someone please tell me how the philosophy of Ninjitsu emigrated to the Underdark? Don't Ninja have a code of conduct? Drow have NONE! :)

Just because someone slaps some black pajamas and a shinobigatana on someone or something's back does not a ninja make. It is the guy/girl behind the character that brings a real ninja to the table or some dork dressed in black. code of conduct?...depends on the clan. As for the drow ninja, that could be interesting if played by the right person.

But your point is well taken, seems more like a collection of preprocessed bad guys, but for the monday night pick up players that could be useful. Stat blocks are a pain in the buttocks at times.

The stuff in MM4 seems interesting and I will probably get it. But I would like to see more monsters from old dnd make back into 3.5. The Kamadan in the Dungeon 136 was awesome.

Someone asked about the maps for the obelisk. There are six levels. The largest begin the second sud-basement/dungeon level. The main entrance is on the third level, third up from the second sub-basement. If the characters enter throught the main entrance, the stair way to the right leads down and the left is up.

One of my personal favorite charaters to date combines I think two great classes. The Ranger/Druid. I've heard a lot about bards and I give them their due, and I know one guy who preaches the religion of the cleric, but like someone mentioned earlier creating a completely different character with same core classes can really spice up the game.
While he is not your typical forest dwelling tree hugger, Asad is desert ranger/ druid. Our group played some extensive games in desert enviorns and I had a blast. I tailored all his spells to reflect his desert nature. Barkskin became sandstone skin, goodberries became gooddates. Also a lot of low level spell like heat metal came in really handy with those fighters and paladins who liked to prance around in their plate mail
armour.

Well, thats my two coppers and I raise you a silver...
