I would go for that. Great for a lore reference library.

Sovereign Court

Pathfinder is the name of the game and that is what we call it.

The sorceror hasnt ever talked about having a code. Every game he plays its always a sorceror who likes to fireball everything.

In a pervious game I gave the player who was playing a barbarian to interact with fellow members of his barberic tribe, he was doing real poorly with the roleplay situation and instead of try to help him the sorceror (same guy same character) cast maximised sphere of acid doing 90 points of damage, I went off at him for it and it started a massive argument.

My advice as a fellow GM is to have the players each describe the motivations of their character as it relates to their alignment. Tell them what you think their alignments mean, and then ask them to describe:

1. how did their character get to be the person they are (with the alignment they have).

2. what motivations, attitudes, codes of conduct (in the case of lawful types), loyalties, hatreds, goals in life, and loves their character has.

I tend to do this by email because it gives people time to think, but in my youth there was no email and we had to walk both to and back from school up hill in the snow, without shoes. And people described their characters in person at the gaming table.

I would have to agree with Moon Glum.

I will add that as a DM you need to be up front with your players with how you are going to enforce and handle infractions based on alignments.

If you have never dinged a player for this kind of act before then all of a sudden start handing out punishments you should expect a heated discussion.

On the other hand if the player is aware of the "enforcement policy" from the begining of the campign then they need to take the punishment and learn from their mistakes.

If you are going to enforce there has to be consequences.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good source of counters that contain all of the critters in the Summon Nature's Ally list. Can be free or otherwise, willing to pay.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Wade

Hello Wade welcome to the boards:

If you are looking at figures I would suggest checking out the DND mini figures. You can check to see if one of your local gaming stores sells singles. That way you can pick and choose what you need.

Another cheap option would be to get some colored glass counters to use as needed. You can get multiple colors to identify different animals. Of course you may need to create a legend to keep track.

Hope that helps. Cheers!

The two listed are the only ones I am aware of that our group listens to. Hopefully a few more will come out as folks get aquainted more with Pathfinder.

Had a good gaming session today. At one point, I needed to cast a spell while adjacent to an enemy, so I chose to cast defensively, which meant making a concentration check. To succeed in the check, I just needed to roll a 5 or higher on the die.

Now, I was about to say "Okay, I just need to roll a 5 or higher", and then roll the die. However, usually when I make such a proclamation, the die decides to thwart me, rolling just a little bit lower than what I need. I knew that such a statement would all but guarantee a roll of 4 or 3. And my die had been acting particularly troublesome today, so I knew it was out to get me.

So I decided to trick it. I said, in a loud clear voice, "Okay, I just need to roll a 10 or higher." Then I rolled the die. It came up... 7. Success! Take that, stupid die!

When mine misbehave I show them the microwave.

I also have specific sets for specific games. It is paramount that you do not cross the streams....as it were. :-)

This is how I would characterized the average play at our table

Combat 30%
Roleplaying 35%
Traps and Puzzles 15%
Exploration 20%

I would like to point out that my point of view is probably skewed based on the the role I play in the group which is usually a Bard. Others at my respective gaming table will proably have a totally different take.

Cheers!

My Gaming group has recently started the Rise of the Rune Lord AP. As the resident bard of the group I came up with a counter song to the goblins nasty little tune. I put it in a basic call and response format. The phrasing is a little wonky but it works:

The Goblin Song
The Goblin Counter Song

Goblins chew and goblins bite,
*You May Chew, You May Bite

Goblins cut and goblins fight,
*Nothing will Dissuade our might

Stab the dog and cut the horse,
*Dogs will Fight, Horse will Rear

Goblins eat and take by force!
*You can stick it in your Ear.

Goblins race and goblins jump,
Goblins slash and goblins bump,
*Heroes cleave, Heroes sunder, Goblins will be put, 6 feet under.

Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!
*Spells to heal and armor protect. Get the Goblins break their neck.

Chase the baby, catch the pup,
Bonk the head to shut it up!
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We the goblins—you the food!

*Time to stop this noisy racket, Hack the Goblins Make them squeal.
Hear my words and listen clear. When all is done and all is said, All the goblins will be dead.

Y'know...I really ought to make a squad of flying monkey ninjas to face off against my players...

Our DM did it once and it was a TPK. I do not recommend it prior to having Epic level characters...

Yeah, We didn't spank the monkeys. The monkeys spanked us.
