About Avid Andachi

Based somewhat on Delapoer, from the “The Rats in the Walls”, and somewhat on Walter Gilman from “Dreams in the Witch House”.
Note that Avid does not believe he has magic. Cunning Caster is used habitually and subconciously. Anyone suggesting he is responsible for some of the strange creatures and events is likely to get harassed - and possibly punched in the nose.

Background
Though he will not remember it on awaking, Avid Andachi’s story is relatively well known.
Avid’s grandfather Dobrisolv Andachi was third in line to the Tamrivena County, but left for Absalom. There he, his son, and eventually his grandson, built a reasonable merchant empire, primarily based on banking. Avid is named after their ally, Avid Arnsen.
When Avid’s only son Eirik died at the worldwound, Avid went to see his ancestral estate, and bury his son there. He fell in love with the place and spent a small fortune repairing and refurbishing it.
There was rumour of a dungeon, and a small party went with Avid to explore it. The whole house burned to the ground. Only Avid returned, raving and insane. He slipped his captors and vanished twenty years ago.
Of course, that Avid would be near seventy now, not a man just now approaching middle age.

Description
A well preserved man just entering middle age. Silvering hair, a no-nonsense face with a hint of a friendly smile.

Personality.
Confused, guilty, practical and with a distrust of magic.

Shadow Blending (Su): Attacks against a fetchling in dim light have a 50% miss chance instead of the normal 20% miss chance. This ability does not grant total concealment; it just increases the miss chance.
Shadowy Resistance: Fetchlings have cold resistance 5 and electricity resistance 5.
Skilled: Fetchlings have a +2 racial bonus on Stealth checks.

Darkvision: Fetchlings can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
Bound to Here: Some fetchlings are from families that have fearfully avoided the Shadow Plane, living on theMaterial Plane for generations. As a result, these fetchlings are closely tied to the Material Plane. Fetchlings with this racial trait count as outsiders with the native subtype and humanoids with the human subtype for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids. They can pass forhuman without using the Disguise skill. This racial trait replaces the +2 racial bonus on Knowledge (planes) checks from the skilled racial trait, and alters the native outsider racial trait. Source PPC:BoS
Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): A fetchling's caster level is equal to his total Hit Dice. When a fetchling reaches 9th level in any combination of classes, he gains shadow walk (self only) as a spell-like ability usable once per day as a spell-like ability. A fetchling's caster level is equal to his total Hit Dice. When a fetchling reaches 13th level in any combination of classes, he gains plane shift (self only, to the Shadow Plane or theMaterial Plane only) usable once per day as a spell-like ability. A fetchling's caster level is equal to his total Hit Dice.
Umbral Escort: Some fetchlings descend from talented planar travelers who dwelled in the dark places between worlds and could conduct others across the planes. A fetchling with this racial trait loses thedisguise self spell-like ability, but his shadow walk and plane shift spell-like abilities need not affect himself only. This racial trait replaces the low-light vision racial trait and modifies the spell-like abilities racial trait.Source PPC:BoS
