About AtomsLEADER OF BLUESHIFT
Quote: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Shaun Adams, a highschooler with aspirations of joining law enforcement, always kept this idiom in mind, intent on one day being a 'good cop', and knowing all too well how easy it is for an officer to abuse their authority. However, when an act of sacrifice transforms him into Atoms–a monstrous being with incredible powers–the problem of power and corruption takes on a whole new meaning for Shaun. Now, growing stronger with each passing moment (and in more ways than one), and having attracted the attention of Halcyon City, everyone now wonders: Is he a hero or a monster? ___________________ Hero___________________ Hero Name: Atoms Real Name (if different): Shaun Adams Abilities: Impenetrable Armor, Impossible Mobility, Inhuman Might, and Speed-Reading/Learning Look: Man, White, Strange Eyes, Untouchable Flesh, Unnerving Costume School: Halcyon High ___________________ Labels ___________________ Danger : +2 Freak : +3 Savior : +2 Superior : -2 Mundane : -2 [LOCKED] ___________________ Influence ___________________ Have Influence on: The Delinquent - Hashtag The Protégé - Wingblade Tectonic, Paragon and newest member of The Defenders ___________________ Team Moves ___________________ When you share a triumphant celebration with someone... :::: About Redshift ::::
Quote: Humanity is undergoing a REDSHIFT. For too long those of us with extraordinary abilities have been ostracized, segregated, and prevented from living normal lives. From birth we are expected to use our gifts to serve the ones who hate and fear us, without reward or pay, and those who refuse are put in prisons designed for our kind–like Tartarus and The Spike–by "Paragons", our arrogantly named, so-called 'brethren'. Time and time again we have been forced to submit, but no longer will we continue to live under the oppressive authority of Earth's regimes. Today we rise to the stars, we stand and fight, we live as we choose and as we deserve! Today we unite under one banner. Under REDSHIFT! As a sovereign nation of one race and one people! Together, the Children of the Earth will tremble as we shout our cry: "A better life for powered-kind!" :::: Backstory Questions :::: - Who were you before?Franklin High student Shaun Adams was a teenage foster child and a member of the Halcyon County Sheriff's Department Explorer program, which offered training and practical experience to teenagers interested in a future career in law enforcement. Polite, friendly and very quick to help, Shaun was well-respected and liked by his fellow explorers and the deputies of the department. Life was hard as a foster kid, moving from home to home, especially since he knew nothing about his parents (his only link to them being his name), but he kept his chin up. Nothing could dissuade him from pursuing a life of helping others. One day, while Shaun was on a ridealong, Halcyon City was attacked by the organization known as Redshift, an event that would forever be etched into the world's history books. People were running through the streets in a panic, wounded and dead were all around, and heroes and villains fought in terrifying battles that brought buildings and debris raining down. Quick to act as first responders, the police explorer and deputy abandoned their squad car to do whatever they could to help, but in the ensuing chaos, Shaun was seperated from his mentor. Afraid, but determined, Shaun continued to make his way through the city, intent on offering aid wherever needed. Emerging from an alley, Shaun came across a disturbing scene; a Redshift Terrorist aiming a strange-looking energy rifle at one of Halcyon's newest heroes, a teenaged superheroine named Wingblade. Leaping into action, Shaun surprised both the hero and villain, tackling the terrorist and wrestling for control of the weapon. In their struggle, however, the weapon's true nature was revealed, accidentally thrown to the ground and landing in such a way that it discharged right as Shaun hit the terrorist with a knockout blow, its energy bolt passing into Shaun's body. This was no simple blaster, but an "Atomizer", designed by Redshift's top minds for the sole purpose of killing even the most invulnerable of superheroes by ripping their molecules apart, leaving only atoms. Shaun stumbled, his body disintegrating, fading rapidly. Turning to a stunned Wingblade, he saluted her and gave his last words, "Just doing my duty, miss", before disappearing entirely. The story of his death would be remembered as one of many, notable tragedies that happened that day, thanks to nearby amateur journalists who happened to film the event. Sometime later, Shaun would be honored with a police funeral, and the Halcyon City Sheriff's Department would create an award named after him to be bestowed upon any police explorer who went beyond his or her duties. But Shaun's life didn't end there. - When did you change? What caused it? The world believed Shaun to be gone, but in truth, he was still around, right where he had been left; what he would later describe as being, "like a ghost, but more". Somehow, in the moment of his 'death', he had gained the fantastic new ability to control his own particles, right down to the subatomic level, allowing him to survive his disintegration as a collection of spread-out atoms. He was like air now, or a cloud, and somewhere in that cloud was a grouping of atoms that was his brain. Barely conscious, and dimly aware of what was going on around him, he silently observed the city street where he had 'died'. The first few days were like dreaming, and the next few days after that were like groggily waking up after a long night and forgetting where you were or what you should be doing. There were sounds, only, they weren't sounds, but vibrations; vibrations that his brain translated into sounds. There were waves too, or what felt like waves, that crashed into him constantly, and these became light, then sight, and finally color. This learning process continued over the course of a month, and during it, those passing through the area would notice a slight static on their car radios, and others would swear that they would occasionally see "flashes of light", which most explained as being an odd reflection from the window of a nearby building. Eventually, Shaun wanted to move, and through a combination of willpower and instinct, he pulled all of his atoms together into a cohesive form. A body. To his horror, however, he would not appear as the teenager he was before. Instead of a human, Shaun was now merely human-shaped, with blue flesh that glowed like a star, blue hair that was like fire, and a touch that was like the gun that 'killed' him, disintegrating whatever he made contact with. Terrified and confused, Shaun ran through the city, leaving a clear path of devastation in his wake. Fortunately, before running for too long, he would be found by Imagine, a young alien who had come from a distant time and place. Using telepathy, she broadcasted feelings of peace to Shaun, calming him down so she could talk to and help him. Quickly becoming friends, she would invite him to join an informal team of young superheroes that she was a part of; even going so far as to give him a special "Theta Suit" from her race, which counteracted his disintegration effect and allowed him to interact with the world normally. It all seemed like fate, especially since one of the team's members was Wingblade herself. Shaun took on the name "Deputy Atoms", becoming a superhero. His powers were invulnerability and enhanced strength. Within 'The Team' (at the time, it did not have a name), Deputy Atoms initially took on more of a support or guardian role, using his invulnerability to protect the other, more powerful–but not invulnerable–members. However, as time passed, Deputy Atoms found himself becoming increasingly detached and dissatisfied, feeling like he didn't really belong among humans and these other supers. Self-pitying, withdrawn, and insular, he hung out less and less with his fellow teammates, only showing up when either he was needed or he needed them. It didn't take long for this all to change though. Before even a year had gone by since he had joined, Deputy Atoms and the rest of his team came together to defend his former high school, Franklin High, from an attack by strange, extradimension beings known as The Givers, who were kidnapping students for their own, mysterious reasons. During this attack, after being mistreated by some of the school's students and faculty, Deputy Atoms decided to fully embrace the new being he had become, tossing aside his past as a human, and with it, his 'Deputy' title, becoming only "Atoms". He would still still fight for good, but as a monster instead of a hero. As a result, Atoms overcame some sort of mental, sub-conscious barrier, drastically increasing his power, and granting him new abilities. Ever since that day, he seems to only continue to grow stronger and more powerful. - Who, outside of the team, is helping you understand your new body? Atoms always found solace in the company of his friend Imagine, but only days after the attack on Franklin High by The Givers, she and many other members of The Team went their separate ways, with Imagine returning to her homeworld. As fate would have it though, the remaining members of The Team would be contacted by The Defenders; one of the major superhero teams in Halcyon City, of which Wingblade's mentor, Whippoorwill, is a member; who wanted The Team's help in combating The Givers. Inviting The Team to Defender HQ in the center of Halcyon City, they revealed that The Givers kidnapped these students in order to 'give' them powers and to make them temporary recruits into their army, wiping their memories and returning them home (with powers) at the end of a several month cycle. In an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation with The Givers, both The Team and The Defenders crossed over to their dimension on a diplomatic mission. Negotiations soon broke down though, The Givers reacting with hostility, forcing the teams to instead launch an impromptu rescue mission to save as many kidnapped kids as they could, before high-tailing it back to Earth. Among the rescued was a Franklin High girl named Alexis Evelyn Forester. Once a blonde-haired basketball player, she was granted powers that both gave her control over a strange, shadowy fluid-like substance and changed her hair color to midnight blue. Unlike most of the other kids, who went back to their homes and/or off superheroing/supervillaining, she didn't want to go back to her family or have anything to do with superpowers. She wanted to be normal. And a troubled homelife prevented her from wanting to go back to her parents. Empathizing with her story, Atoms befriended Alexis, and told her that it was important to fully embrace what she had turned into. The two quickly became best friends and confidants. They tell each other everything, keeping no secrets. In-fact, the two are so close that some jokingly refer to them as "Atoms and Eve", despite them not having a romantic relationship. However, Alexis is not the only one helping Atoms understand himself. Atoms, at Alexis' insistence, has enrolled both her and himself into Halcyon High, a school for those with powers. He claims that it was his choice and decision, and that he is only there for education, but even though he says this, Atoms can frequently be seen interacting with other students and even the faculty. - Why don’t you just try to hide yourself away? Apalled by Halcyon City's (and frankly, the world's) treatment of those with powers, Atoms and Alexis found their views aligning with that of Redshift, though not agreeing with their terrorist methods. Intent on making their own change, the two have started a supers-only gang called "Blueshift", with Atoms as the leader, and Alexis as his right-hand girl. Since its founding, its membership has swelled to well over a dozen supers, having attracted people from all walks of life, many from Halcyon High. The gang, depending on your view, can be best described as either a 'well-intentioned activist group' or 'a ticking time bomb'. Blueshift's main activity is to organize and participate in rallies, protests, and other such events. Thier usual meet-up spot is at an abandoned logging camp outside of the city. Why do you care about the team? Atoms is extremely loyal and protective of his friends, and is the kind of guy who will punch someone who is badmouthing one of his friends; it just seems to be his natural instinct. Also, as a former police explorer, he is still very interested in taking down crime and fighting the good fight.
