Asuka's big eyes grow even bigger with the description of their journey. "Wow! The Ulfen really know how to give places cool names. And 450 miles! Such an epic journey! Like Journey to the West except to the East."

Before setting out and on each day of the journey, Asuka begins the day by communing with the local birds for advice about the upcoming geography, locations of good water, dangerous predators, confirming the caravan's general route, and any other questions that an avian consensus might be able to answer productively.

Asuka rushes up to Ameiko and gives her a powerful hug. "Kaijitsu-sensei! I am so beyond glad that you are okay. We went on an adventure! And it looks like we are all going on another." She pulls Ameiko even tighter before finally letting go. "Oh, it's all so exciting, isn't it? So cool! I knew you were a hero, Ameiko. This is just like all the stories! You're a secret princess!"

Asuka is absolutely stunned by the visions as she tries to remember every single detail of the scenes as best she can. The second she has her wits again, she begins writing furiously, noting down everying in as complete a form as she can.

"That was SO COOL. Secret royalty??? That's such a great plotline! I couldn't have come up with something better myself." She pats Ruka on the shoulder. "Ruka-hime, I knew you were the coolest!"

All good. I made a mesmerist for another game and she's going to be full mesmerist, so I actually took the time to do a more thorough reading of the rules.

Level-based calculations with no minimum always trip people up, so it's an understandable oversight. Like how ear-piercing scream does not actually do damage at 1st CL. And I got to feel fancy with a nice damage bonus for a while.

Painful Stare (bolding mine):
Painful Stare (Su): When an attack that deals damage hits the target of a mesmerist’s hypnotic stare, the mesmerist can cause the target to take an amount of additional damage equal to 1/2 the mesmerist’s class level (minimum 1). The mesmerist can use this ability as a free action, and can use it even if it isn’t his turn. If the mesmerist uses this ability to increase his own damage, the additional damage increases by 1d6 points for every 3 class levels the mesmerist possesses. This damage is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit. A mesmerist can trigger this ability only once per round, but a single creature can take damage from multiple mesmerists’ painful stares in a round.

I read that as the mesmerist only gets extra damage on their own painful stare triggers once they hit 3, and that it is in addition to their normal damage. So it would be 1d6+1 once you hit 3, but you would only have +1 until then. The bolded part does not say (minimum 1d6), so it would not come into effect until 3.

I'm assuming that she is negative channeling to harm so that that would be a will save?

Asuka was not expecting the blast of negative energy and she recoils in pain. She tries to push through and slash at the corby, but the combination of the pain and her slowed movements make it difficult for her to find her rhythm.

Asuka's tenacity allows her to push through the horrible stinging sound in her ears, and she dashes into the room attack the villainous corby giving avian humanoids a bad rap.

But as soon as she starts moving, she remembers that damned cursed statue. It takes all of her effort to just get to the villain, much less strike her.

Asuka saw visions of her own fiery death as she was blasted by the decapus's wand, but they quickly faded as she realized that she was still conscious enough to have visions of her own fiery death. Still, without a ranged weapon of her own, she's not looking forward to getting hit again.

Total defense. With her acrobatics ranks, that's a +6 to AC, which I will put in her header. Her touch AC vs the decapus is up to 24

Asuka reaches for one of her acid flasks, only to realize once again that she has used all of them. She makes a befuddled groan, then does her best to prepare for the monster coming into range again.

While everyone else deliberates the pros and cons of complying, Asuka immediately kneels and unstraps her katana, holding it up in supplication. The thought of a god directly talking to people didn't seem that strange to her, especially since it happens in plays and stories all the time. This is clearly some kind of test thing, and she's great at test things!

"Oh Great Goddess of Death and Fate! I, Asuka Narukami, will comply with your wishes as best I can. My sword is an honored heirloom of my family and it would be a strike to our honor should I discard it. Would stowing it away in my bag be a sufficient show of deference?"

Asuka claps for Lor-Sinn's storytelling. Nothing brings her out of a bad place like a good story or a good telling or both. "Good explanation, Lor-Sinn! And yes, I agree that a rest might be a good idea. We have been going for quite a while already to be honest. And a secret room sounds like the best place."

Asuka tries her best to smile for Ruka. She knows that delay will probably affect Ruka's spirits the best. Ruka is demonstrative enough that even Asuka can pick up on her moods.

"Ameiko will be okay, Ruka! She's in good hands back with the caravan and we are making great progress. This place is a whole big fortress and we have cleared through so much of it already!"

Asuka reached for another flask, only to realize that she had used her last one. Thankfully, Ruka smashed into Zaiobe with a blisteringly powerful strike and she didn't need any more.

This betrayal has deeply disturbed Asuka. It just didn't make any sense to her. The story didn't add up to her, and fighting only made sense if there was a story to it. It's art if there is a story, but if there isn't, it's just senseless violence and butchery.

"Why did you attack us! What the hells??? That's just...it's not...we were helping you and you almost kill one of us!"

She realizes that Zaiobe is far beyond hearing her at this point. She hamemrs a clenched talon against the wall. She holds herself there for a few moments while she tries to calm herself now.

"Well, what do we do now?"

Asuka snatches the key up and—with an excessive twirl—opens the lock, throwing the gate open as a magician’s assistant might before an audience. She then sheathes her sword and places her fists on her hips. ”We are heroes! Driven by a quest of the most life-and-death import, we strive into the ruined past so that one dear to us might not have a ruined future. Secrets are unburied as we bury those that keep them, and old answers lead to new questions.” Asuka relaxes and grins, quite proud of herself. ”How’s that for a back jacket! That’s what I’ve got so far, but I can’t finish writing it until I finish living it! That’s just basic rules of writing.”

She then kneels next to the ogre and pats him gently. ”Don’t worry, buddy. You’re gonna get a whole character profile and backstory in the book to accompany the chapter(s) involving fighting you. Sorry it had to go down like this, but you’re gonna be in art! Literature, to be exact. Do ogres like art? I hope so.”

She looks back to the Ulfen woman. ”Oh yeah, I’m writing a book. Or books. Probably books. Did I say that?” She pauses and begins making herself go through the list of things you are supposed to say/ask when meeting someone. Too much adrenaline and meeting an attractive, stylish lady has rendered the already excitable and whimsical Asuka into a rapid burst of energy. ”Oh yeah! What’s your name?”

@Ruka Asuka has two more uses of that flanking trick, and it doesn't take long to implant it again, so she'd have done so again after the last encounter

Asuka is quite pleased at the sight not only of a potential ally, but a strikingly attactive one at that. She puffs up her chest and raises her sword high. "Never fear! Asuka Narukami, known far and wide as the Thunder-God, is here! I will strike down this brute with the speed and power of a True Hero."

Asuka stares down the ogre, then rushes into the room before it can react. Assuming that he's flat-footed as he hasn't acted yet She spins her sword behind her back, slashing wide across the ogre's midline. "Tornado Slice!"

Asuka's bright energy dissipates as Ruka speaks to Kikonu. She closes her eyes out of respect, not for Kikonu, but for Ruka. Ruka is going through all this intense emotion and Asuka the bird-brained is just sitting here talking about power-themes and cool names like an absolute fool. Asuka may not always be the fastest to realize what's going on, but once she does, she wants to be on the frontlines to help as much as she can.

She waits for the scene to settle before placing a tentative talon on Ruka's shoulder. "I wish it didn't have to come to that, and I think you probably feel the same. You made the right call. I bet you anything that your ancestors are proudly looking upon right now, having finally defeated him." Asuka picks up the disc and absent-mindedly bites it as though testing a coin. "I--er, that is, we--will make sure you and your family is kept safe if more of these Five Storms people are still around and alive."

Asuka keeps making notes, realizing that snowstorms and firestorms are also types of storms, so there could be cold- and fire-themed Five Storms members, too. Does acid rain count as a storm? It depends on how dedicated the Five Storms are to their aesthetic/theme. Did they just get a bunch of people and say "yeah, storms kinda work as a vague theme" or did they specifically seek out people to suit it? Did they reject applicants for not being on-theme? "Sorry, Mister Earthquake, but you just aren't a good fit for our group's culture. Try the Seven Calamities instead."

As Asuka continues speculating on this mysterious new group, she hears people ask their questions. Then, something finally clicks for Asuka. "Wait, so are the Kaijitsus ALSO the Amatatsus? You were kinda using them interchangeably. And why were you trying to kill them? Were they important or something?"

"How could I be a traitor when I never was allied with you in the first place!"

She immediately notes down FIVE STORMS in her journal, circling it and adding three exclamation points and notating (COOL). "What is The Five Storms? Are you one of them? Do they all have themed abilities? Thunder, lightning, rain, wind, and uh...clouds? Oh! Smoke abilities work." Before actually confirming that this is indeed how the group works, she begins writing down the list of themed abilities as though it were an obvious truth. "Does that mean you are wind? Shooting a bow and fighting with a kusari-gama are kinda wind-y. Stuff flying or dancing through the air and all. Plus you ran away a lot. 'In the wind' so to speak." She marks with surety and finality that Kikonu is the "wind" representative of The Five Storms.

Asuka stands slack-beaked as Ruka just absolutely obliterates this horrible tengu in front of her. Asuka is impressed. Asuka is scared. Asuka is aroused. Ruka, once again, is just cool.

As she comes back to reality, Asuka finally has the idea that perhaps she could be of assistance here. With Ruka as the proverbial--is that the right way to use "proverbial?" she makes a note to check that later--"bad cop," she herself could play the proverbial (?) "good cop." She kneels down with her sheathed sword resting on her shoulder.

"You should do what she says! It won't end well for you if you don't. Believe me, I'd rather we didn't have to kill you, but there's only so much I can do for you."
