Last thing before I make a character would be what level are we starting at?

I would assume 1st, because we're starting an Adventure Path. I'd start with 1st and figure out what you want to add for 2nd so you can quick add if you need to.

OK, so I am gonna go with the Beta Character I already have made and devolve him back to 1st level. He is a Shoanti Barbarian/Sorcerer/Red Dragon Disciple. Mostly melee with backup Pyro Blaster spells (Scorching Ray, Fireball, etc...).

One last question (hopefully last anyway) before creating:
Which Point buy method are you sing for Stats (p.5 Beta Rulebook)?
Low Fantasy = 10pts
Standard Fantasy = 15pts
High Fantasy = 20pts
Epic Fantasty = 25pts
My Character was created using Epic (25) so I just need to know so I know whether to alter his stats around.

I want to attempt a wrestler/fighter of varisian descent. (can we say Zangeif?). That is what I would like to try. Monk/fighter but I want to be able to go back and forth. Can we do that with a feat or something? If not, then I guess I will stick to Monk.

I'm pretty sure that Beta allows multi-classing freely for Monks. I would read the entry again more carefully, but I didn't think I read about a penalty (only penalty is for changing alignment to non-lawful).

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Cool, I will stat up a character and post by the end of the week.

Will you be using the Traits from Second Darkness Companion (and other sources)? Not worried if you aren't, just making sure for Character Creation purposes. Also, even though we are using Beta Rules what are your thoughts on using other Non-Pathfinder 3.5 Splat Books (Complete Books, Spell Compendium, etc...)?

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Second Darkness is fine by me.

Personally I would prefer Beta Rules, but am willing to go 3.5 if once again that's where the consensus lies. Beta isn't different enough to cause you any major hassles Zoom. A little bit of tweaking here and there. CMB is probably the main thing you have to have a serious look at, most of the other stuff you can just skim on need-to-know basis.

I think at this stage I will give Artemis a rest he needs some tweaking and I will have another look at him down the track somewhere (plus I'm not sure he'd fit Second Darkness either).
I will have to think about what character class/race I will play as it will most probably depend on the rulseset we end up deciding on.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Yeah, it has been a bit slow. I am happy to keep going, but don't mind starting up another game if that's where consensus lies.
If we are gonna do another module, I wouldn't mind one of the higher level ones (D3 Demon Within, J2 Guardians of Dragonfall or J3 Crucible of Chaos). I was supposed to play in a Pen & Paper Crucible of Chaos but it fell through, so I already have a Beta character made for 8th level that I'm itching to play.
If we are gonna do an Adventure Path then I am with Mark/Vargo. I am already playing in both a RotRL and a CotCT PbP, so Second Darkness would be my choice. In this case I would probably play the same character as above, just starting from 1st level instead of 8th.
Incidently: if we were to start up another game would it be using Beta Rules or sticking with 3.5? I don't mind either ruleset, but learning Beta Rules would be my preference.

Artemis looks around at the area. "Here by this fallen tree seems a good place to set up camp. we are away from the main crossing and have the tree at our backs."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis accepts the small knife from Ost, handing him his Quarterstaff to hold. He swings himself back up and grabs the rope, slashing it with the knife and landing on the ground with a muffled thump.
He turns to Ost and quietly says, "so is this actually a camp or a decoy?"
Turning back around to gaze up at the spider he adds, "and we should probably move on before that thing wakes up and decides we all look very appetizing".

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis grabs the Quarterstaff and swings himself around to see if any danger is coming his way.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis hangs upside down...
He tries to swing himself up to catch the rope around his ankle and grab it. I'm going to assume a DEX Check?
DEX Check to grab the rope around his ankle. (1d20+2=6)
His arm can't quite grasp the rope and so he flops back down to hang there, eying his Quarterstaff laying on the ground beneath him.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Reflex Save (Evasion). (1d20+8=15)

Artemis stops and looks down. "Oh dear!
He holds out his arm towards the others to stop.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis watches Vargo disappear and gives an appreciative nod at his skill. Turning to the others he says, "OK the rest of you follow me. We're going to aproach the camp as if we are travellers in need of assistance. Be on your guard though."
He then moves off towards the camp with the others trailing behind.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Waiting until Ost has moved away, Artemis turns to his companions. "What does everyone think? Should we walk in as if we're just travellers, or should I sneak up and get a lay of the camp first?"

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis slows down and waits behind Ost, saying "should we wait for you to scout ahead, or approach the camp with nothing to hide?"

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis bends down to take a pinch of the ashy substance in his hands and ask Ost, "what do you think could have caused this damage?"

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis sets up a fire and pulls out his bedroll, setting it up against a tree. He then proceeeds to make plans with Ost for who should take which watch.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis is of two minds about what to do with the Gnome. He has actively aided a known criminal and as such deserves to be locked up awaiting trial. On the other hand any delays will mean that the Red Raven will slip further and further ahead of them.
In the end he decides to let the Gnome go with a warning. "You have lost much today. I will not arrest you, for I can sense that there is no evil in you and you meant us no real ahrm, but only sought o delay us. As such I am asking for our promise that you will leave your life of crime behind and endeavour to live an honourable life. Do we have an agreement?"
He waits for the Gnome to aquiese to his demands and then gathers the others together to follow Ost and continue the hunt for their quarry.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis assesses the stranger and then extends his hand.
"We are, thank you for your assistance. My name is Artemis, a humble servant of the Lady Desna and we are pursuing a criminal by the name of The Red Raven. He has stolen something important from the town and we have been hired to recover it. As our guide Ost says, we must hurry now to resume the chase."
"You are welcome to join us if you wish. You obviously know how to handle yourself, but being out here alone can be dangerous and I am sure we would all enjoy the company."
With that he shakes Vargo's hand and directs him to the other members of the party while he discusses what to do with the Gnome with Ost.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis uses Detect Evil on the Gnome to determine why he would attack them. 1 round use, determines whether evil is present.
He also gauges anything said by the gnome for inconsistencies or reasoning.
Sense Motive. (1d20+5=25)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis smirks at Peitor's forwardness and then turns to yell up the hill, "don't hurt them, we will need to question them about the Red Raven's activities." He thn starts off up the hill, picking his way carefully through the rubble using his quarterstaff to steady himself.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis looks at the big gash in Peitor's leg and winces. He hold his hands gently over the wound and a soft glow appears, knitting the flesh back together and leaving no mark.
Lay on Hands for 4hp of Healing to take you back to full.

Spider Climb is always my first Invocation, followed by Devil Sight.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Strength Check to help free Peitor. (1d20+1=13)

Atremis grabs one of Peitor's Arms, Ost the other and they pull, trying to free the gypsy from the rubble.
To Firefly, he says, "go, try and help that stranger chase down our attackers, but take them alive, I wish to know hether they are in league with the Red Raven or merely simple brigands."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Reflex Save. (1d20+8=20) I don't know if Evasion will come in hand here, but if it does then Artemis will take no damage if the save was successful.

Artemis dodges through the rain of rocks, emerging further along the road. Once out of harm's way, he checks to make sure Peitor made it out alright.
* If he did, then Artemis races up the hill towards the Gnomes with his Quarterstaff ready to deliver swift justice for the cowardly attack.
* If Peitor is in trouble, then Artemis will try to help him, before heading up to confront the Gnomes.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis is going to race off down the road in the direction they are travelling, trying his best to avoid any falling rocks and making sure that everyone else is out of harms way. If he sees anyone in trouble, he rushes to help them, heedless of the danger it may put himself into.
Once free of the rock slide, he will attempt to navigate his way up to engage the gnomes.

That's probably a couple of rounds of move actions there, but take as many actions as needed to acomplish those goals.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Initiative. (1d20+2=7)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"Of course you are right my dear. Peitor, Firefly let us hurry out of this stretch. The rocks are looking unstable and I would hate for them to come down on us."
With that he picks up his pace so as to get out of the area of the loose rocks and catch up to Ost.

question: are we on horses or on foot?
I was assuming everyone was on foot!

Unless Peitor brought his wagon (which probably wouldn't have been a good idea given some of the terrain we should be visiting) then I think everyone is on foot.

Artemis looks around warily when he hears the rocks, alert for both a possible rock fall and also someone or something who could have loosened the rocks by their presence above them.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Spot. (1d20+3=20)

Listen. (1d20+3=13)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis tells the others to buy what they need and then meet back here in half an hour.
He then heads off to buy some Cold Weather Gear making sure to include a hardy Fur-Lined Cloak with a hood.
He also makes sure to buy enough Trail Rations to last for at least a fortnight. One can never be too sure.
He then makes sure all of his gear is ready and heads back to the Lodge to meet Ost and the others.
Crossed off 8gp for the Cold Weather Outfit and 7gp for Trail Rations.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"Good Sir. My name is Artemis Grayson, Faithful Servant to Lady Desna. I am not sure if you have heard about the current goings on in the town, but they are in trouble and have asked us to help them recover the Vernal Key from the bandit Red Raven who has stolen it. We have been told to seek out Ost Untamoinen to commission him to act as our guide in tracking down the villain and your compatriots out there directed us to this room."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis leads the party up the steps of the Lodge and through the front door. Inside he stops and looks around for someone who might be in authority, going over and asking them where they might find Ost Untamoinen.

I am better now. Swamped by work, but back into the swing of things. =)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Sorry guys, I am really sick atm. Please DMNPC me for at least the next day or so.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"Rest assured good townsfolk that we shall bring the perpetrator to justice. Thank You for your advice. We will look into hiring this Ost Untamoinen"
Throughout the exchange Artemis has been writing details into a small notebook and finishes as he says Ost's name.
"Farewell. The next time you see us we will have your Vernal Key, I swear on the Lady Desna."
He leads the others out after asking for directions to the Deerstalker's Lodge.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"Fear not good man. I would be remiss in my duties if I were to let a villain such as this Red Raven get away with his crime.
Do you have any idea where we might begin looking for him?"

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis leads the party up to the man and bows before him.
"Milord. I am Artemis Grayson, faithful Servant of the Lady Desna and these are my companions, Lady Erelle, Lady Firefly and Peitor. We have come at your request to help with this problem. I have heard tell of this Red Raven, but what I have heard has been mere tavern talk. Would you please care to explain who this man is and why he would wish to steal your Vernal Key."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis leads the others through the streets, being careful to avoid large gatherings and keeping an ear out for anything that may be of use.

Listen Check. (1d20+3=9)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"This charming lady's name is Firefly and she wishes to join our band. As to the trouble, I believe something has been stolen from the village and I received this letter asking for my help. I believe the two to be connected, but until we meet with a man named Anteros Ikonen that is all I know. We should get going soon after everyone has had their fill of breakfast."
Artemis asks the Bartender for directions and then waits patiently for everyone to be ready before leading them to the Hall.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis looks a little embarrassed by the title.
"Please, it is just Artemis. I am merely a traveller in service to Lady Desna. This is the Lady Erelle and Serne and that," he points to Peitor moving through the crowd towards them, "is Peitor. I don't quite know what to make of this note, so perhaps we should go and meet with this Anteros Ikonen and see what he has to say. I can only assume it is about whatever is happening that has gotten everyone so worked up."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

"I too have been remiss in my manners and for that I am truly sorry.
My name is Artemis Grayson, faithful servant of Lady Desna at your service."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2
Firefly wrote:
"I would like to help out if possible, and you look like the kind of person that could use my talents."

Artemis still looks intrigued by the letter as he hears the elven woman speak to him. He flashes her one of his wide smiles and answers her.

"I'm sure that your talents would come very much in handy. Apparently someone named Antero Ikonen wants to see me and my new friends in the Inclusive Hall. It must be something to do with the disappearance of this item you spoke of. You are quite welcome to join us."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2
Zoomackulas Eichendar wrote:

An official messenger breaks through the crowd and steps into the inn, spots Artemis, and hands him a paper!

The paper says "You and your new friends are requested to help this small village in its hour of need! Please come right away to the Inclusive Hall to hear our plea!!!"
Antero Ikonen

The messenger leaves the inn right after he hands the message to Artemis

Artemis accepts the paper and reads it, looking up for the messenger after he finishes, but notices that he is gone. He wonders why someone would want his help, he was only a small town sheriff and not that noteworthy. He decides to wait for Erelle to come down and see what she thinks of the note.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

As Artemis heads over to the innkeeper while he waits for Erelle, he notices a beutiful fiery haied elven woman step out the front door. He notes the look of a warrior about her and gives an appreciative nod as she glances his way before she leaves.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis wakes up and says his morning prayers to Desna, then goes over to the window to see if he can see what the commotion is about. After that he heads over to the girl's room and knocks on the door, waiting for Erelle to answer so he can inform her of what is going on outside. As they make their was downstairs for some breakfast, they are struck by a similar commotion in the common room. He tries to head over to the bar to ask the innkepper what is going on.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2
Erelle Ravenstone wrote:
"Oh, thank you. Here, I can give you some gold for that.." She offers him a couple of gold coins in exchange for the key.

Artemis looks at the coins and shakes his head with a grin on his face.

"That's not necessary, it's my pleasure."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis glances at the ladies before saying, "certainly my good man, that sounds like an excellent suggestion." Artemis takes 3gp from his belt pouch anf hands it to the inkeeper. Taking the keys from the man, he hands one to Erelle and escorts both of them to their room, before retiring to his for some well deserved sleep. Before going to bed for the night he offers a prayer to Desna for their luck tonight in avoiding any problems from the fight.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Eyeing Peior's attempt with a raised eyebrow, Artemis instead suggests that they try to get some rooms at an inn and asks the innkeeper where they might be able to find somewhere to stay.

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis glares at the men as they scurry away, then turns to Erelle, a look of concern in his eyes.
"Are you alright my dear? Did that thug hurt you much? I have some minor healing abilities and it would be my pleasure to assist you if I can."

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Artemis glares at the man and says, "leave now and there will be no more trouble for you. Stay and you and your friends will wake up in a prison cell in chains."

Intimidate on Drunk. (1d20+4=11)

Male Human Rogue/2 Paladin/2

Sorry I missed the first round, call it stunned reflexes because the man pushed him back onto the table.

Initiative. (1d20+2=15)

Artemis sees one of the men hit Erelle and his face takes on a hard edge. Having no mercy for a man who would hit a woman, he reaches over and plucks up his Quarterstaff, taking a swing at the man that attempted to hit him, but keeping his eye on the man who callously attacked Erelle.

Attack vs. Drunk #1. (1d20+5=11)
Damage. (1d6+1=3)

If this blow either drops him or frightens him off (which I doubt, but one can hope) Artemis will take a 5' step towards Erell's Attacker. If not he will just stay put to defend himself.
