Yeah. At a glance, a one-level dip would get a good deal of the social flavor. Is that a bit much? Maybe.

The idea probably wouldn't hit Armon until he meets Asmodia (or rather, The Heiress), though.

Ugh. Sorry, I've been really neglecting this, haven't I? Not for lack of interest or anything, just a bit of a rut.

At any rate, I am in agreement with Victor with what to do with the rebellion. Maybe Armon should wear a mask so he can proselytize in secret. :P

The vigilante makes my head spin. So many options, I'm not sure what to do with them. And you were right, the magical child is hilarious. Now I'm imagining Klarah and the Riftorphans becoming a band of magical superheroes.

We really need to get Scath a circlet of speaking. :P

Also, I can't stop picturing him like this.

Armon is all too "happy" to entertain Amelia at first, but any expectations he did have of the noblewoman and her family quickly go south. A shame that she is not more personable, he had thought to himself, as she droned on about her family's history. Still, it was rather clear that the Tanessen family might very well be a thorn in their side.

Regardless, he is as pleasant as possible, though the nature of his true opinions requires a bit of glibness on his part. He comes away from the encounter feeling mentally exhausted, with just a few scraps of intelligence to show for it.

Bit of a toughie. I do recall that I had Security prioritized over Loyalty for my picks, though at this point I am kind of on the fence. Given Armon's current position, I actually feel like he would be more for supporting Rexus. But at the same time, Security sounds like more of a firebrand pick. :-k

Obviously, you seem to be leaning toward the latter, so it is better to go with that. :P

That's not far off from what I'm trying (<--keyword) to implement in my other game, so I'm cool with it. :)

"Indeed. They are of the... feathery variety. It seems that they paid your friend to arrange for transport out of the city, but he passed away before he could fulfill his end of the bargain," Armon says, deciding to leave out the details of Nan's apparent debauchery.

Yeah, I guess it'd be odd for a noble to be penny-pinching. He'll just leave it at Longroads.

And maybe Tobias just finally got sick of being around Victor. ;P

Armon will return to Jarvis manor to check in on the family. If he is asked, he will make up some plausible story about where he has been; this would hardly be the first time he has snuck out to partake in some illicit activities. He will see about getting updates on any major political activity that has occurred since the riot. If possible, just to cast himself in a less suspicious light, he will also volunteer to undertake any boring meetings or dinners that nobles tends to get stuck in.

Edit: Also: Just to cut down on encumbrance, Armon will sell his old morningstar for a few pieces of gold, if possible. If anyone else in the party wants the spellstoring bracers, he'll hand them over. Having to attune them makes them a little less worthwhile on him.

Sounds like a very fun concept. :)

If not vigilante, then rogue definitely fits the bill, I think. Flavor-wise, the sanctified rogue comes to mind, though that doesn't necessarily need to be tied to the archetype.

The vigilante seems made for this adventure path... or vice versa. I'm a little surprised that Ultimate Intrigue did not overlap with its release date. That being said, I don't know how the final version looks.

As far as making a character interesting, I do find it to be a challenge. If you have an idea of their general demeanor, I think it's fine to make up certain quirks as you go along. As long as you have something that really motivates your character, it's hard to be led astray.

Alas, these are just words, and I know all too well that saying is a lot easier than doing. :|

Ah, I missed that part. Not surprising I guess, seeing how freaking long the text for the feat is. So not nearly as powerful as I thought, which is probably a good thing. I'll leave that one alone, then.

In other news...

I think that the feat would list the companion or familiar class features as prerequisites if that were the case. I imagine that the exorbitant prices of the figurines are supposed to be the balancing factor, but for this particular AP, we all got free shiny birds almost right off the bat. That being said, I do think your interpretation is a valid one. There are other, more feat intensive ways of getting an animal companion. :P

As for feat selection, currently sitting on the fence between Greater Spell Focus (enchantment) and Spell Focus (conjuration). Not really sure I want to go down the summoning route with another character, though.

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

Armon is kind of looking for the other members of his cult, but that's not really a good in for an arcane caster. You could always be a tengu wizard or something. ;P

Still debating on what feat to pick next. With Armon I've decided to avoid the usual suspects whenever feasible. It doesn't feel flavor-appropriate to take it at this level, but does this feat sound fine to you, GM? I was thinking of taking it at level 7 at the earliest.

As for ABP, I did not mean to insinuate that I'm against the alternate system Scath is using. Just that part of the reason I like it is that it cuts down on bookkeeping.

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

I'll just stick with regular ABP. I was never any good at saving my Chuck E. Cheese's tickets until my next visit. :P

I forget, we did settle on using ABP, right? I think there were some changes to it though.

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

I definitely want to continue. I know I haven't been posting as often as I should, which is troublesome, since Armon is supposed to be my take on a more talkative character. Gameplay wise, he has basically been little more than an inspirational healbot, but there is still plenty of time for that to change.

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

Well, there's that. With a great sigh, Armon raises a hand to rub his forehead with. After what they had seen so far, he should not have expected anything else. Still, he could not help but to feel sorry for the tengu.

"It cannot be helped," he finally concurs, shaking his head. Victor was right, in any case. "We will have to let Laria know about this. As for yourselves... what do you plan on doing now? There is nothing keeping you here, anymore."

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

    Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

"Well, we did slay a rather large crocodile..." Armon offers, leaving out that the others killed it before he could even blink an eye. He winces at the mention of their other sister, realizing who it was they were referring to. The cleric speaks a bit more tenderly, hoping that more hostilities would not rise. "As for your sister... Chough was her name, yes? She... left us with little choice. I am sorry."

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

"Nan is their name," Armon volunteers, erring on the side of honesty for the time being. "They should have passed through here some time ago, but they never reached the surface."

Hearing the clicking, the noble bristles slightly, finding himself leaping to a few unpleasant conclusions. Still, he forces a pleasant smile onto his face. "Surely we can come to some kind of accord. Once we find our friend, we will be on our way."

    Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

Having grown increasingly queasy since seeing the grisly scene, Armon merely turns up his nose at the sight of the second latrine. He was certainly the adventurous sort, but the sensibilities of his upbringing were still readily apparent. With nothing of importance to see, he is all too eager to get out of the room.

"To the other room, then...?" he suggests, gesturing out of the chamber. Between the signs of apparent murder and the presence of deadly predators, his optimism was rapidly waning.

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

"All of this, under my favorite coffeehouse," Armon mutters with a huff, before frowning at Victor's statement. "Blood? Is there a body? Or other remains...?"

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

Armon is all too happy to leave the dirty work to Juniper. Once the body parts are all out for everyone to see, he wanders over, covering his mouth and nose with his handkerchief.

"Quite interesting indeed," he agrees in a muffled voice, before frowning behind the small piece of fabric. "This is quite embarrassing, but Nan is another halfling, yes? I should hope so, anyway."

    Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric (Evangelist) 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 15, T 11, FF 14 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +7 | CMD 14 | Init +1 | Perception +3 | Channel 5/5 | Performance 13/13

When the fight ends, Armon pokes Victor with the wand twice more, scowling at the number of charges needed to mend the wound. He mutters something not entirely kind about 'discounted wands' before finally putting it away.

"It is dead, is what it is," Armon remarks with a bland tone, all too certain that some other smart aleck would say it if he didn't. Might as well take the fall, in that case. Regardless, he shakes his head, quite ashamed of himself. "But in all seriousness, I have not a clue. It could speak though, so it was no mindless beast... unless it was just mimicking someone else it heard."

Armon's mouth quietly forms an O shape when he sees the apparent owner of the black feather, which falls from his grasp. In the short time it takes for the plume to float to the ground, some horrific maiming has already taken place on both sides. Wand still in hand, he is finally able to spring into action, though with the battle so close at hand, the only sensible thing to do seemed to be to start cleanup a little early.

Despite being wary of the insane crow beast, Armon moves up behind Victor and Brutus and carefully prods the former with the healing wand.

"I certainly hope not," Armon remarks as he carefully picks up one of the feathers by its calamus and raises it to eye level. He wrinkles his nose.

"Now what is this all about?" he asks no one in particular, turning it over in his hand with a grimace.

Armon blinks and almost misses the fight entirely. He looks down at the large dead reptile, amazed by the speed with which it had attacked... and with which it had been killed by Scath. He had definitely underestimated the cat's sheer viciousness.

"Oh my," he finally says before snapping out of it. At Victor's beck and call he hurries to the poor hound's side, retrieving his healing wand and applying multiple surges of positive energy.

Armon is not exactly enthusiastic about being below ground again either, but he says nothing of it. That smile of his persists however, as he tries to keep an optimistic outlook on things. Namely, that they were not searching for a dead man.

Feeling a little adventurous, he searches the far wall for the hidden entrance, Juniper's spell providing much needed illumination. It takes him a few moments to find it, even with Laria's description. Even when he does spot it, it does not strike him as being obvious. Which was the idea, of course.

"Ah, here we go," he says as he pressed down on the block. He takes a step back as the wall swings open, looking to his companions. "Well then, who would like to go first?"

By the time Rexus joins them, Armon is already starting on his second pastry and third cup of coffee. He mixes so much milk and sugar into his coffee that it becomes questionable as to whether it is coffee at all.

"Ah... my sincerest apologies," Armon says, his expression falling. He dabs at the corner of his mouth with his handkerchief, wiping away a speck of powdered sugar, before retrieving his wand from his belt. "The church provided me with this at a generous discount. It would be a damned shame if I did not put it to use. I should have done this yesterday."

If allowed, he taps Victor and Tobias with the wand, casting a weak cure spell on each of them.

"There! Now we still have something to fall back on for an emergency."

Armon will hold off on going downstairs for the night! He was open to objections, so when Scath fell asleep on the rafters, he kind of conceded the point.

Also, I figure he actually lives in Jarvis manor, but in still not sure what Armon's relation to the family is. A first or second cousin? Just don't want to refer to anyone as mother or father and break canon. ;P

Just to reiterate, Armon has the masterwork silver morningstar and one of the silver raven figurines of wondrous power. And the spellstoring bracers, though looking back, they might be better suited for someone else.

"I do not think I will be missed at home," Armon remarks, watching the cat as he runs off. "This would hardly be the first sojourn I have taken. I will stay here for the time being, if it pleases you."

"Hm. I have not heard from the Rose in some time, either," Armon remarks offhand, concerned by the growing list of missing persons.

He eyes Scath and Juniper's spat with amusement. The cat was rather large and intelligent for its kind... but it was still a cat. "Why, he's holding us hostage! Well, perhaps he has the right idea."

Armon has the morningstar and one of the figurines. Though I figured we'd take anything Silver Ravens related that wasn't bolted to the floor.

"Ah! So you are mixed up in this as well," Armon exclaims, without betraying any actual surprise. The truth was, he probably shouldn't be very surprised at all. He knew he liked this place for a reason... beside the coffee and sweets, anyway.

"'Baz'? Just 'Baz'? On a legal document?" the noble asks skeptically, a brow raised as he lifts his mug up to take another sip. He sets it down again and shakes head. "A deed won't be of much use to us if we ever decide to clean up the place. And I highly doubt anyone will be interested in purchasing the property."

Armon watches the coded sheet as it flutters down to the ground, before being collected by Scath. Sharing in Rexus' exasperation, he takes a sigh. He had been expecting something a little more dramatic. Regardless, he manages to crack a smile. "Cheer up, friend. We are already in this for the long haul! We will just need to find a trustworthy linguist, or codebreaker, or something else of the sort."

His enthusiasm quickly wanes as he listens to Laria's predicament, even with the prospect of using the place as a base of operations. He strokes his clean-shaven chin, concern written on his face. The timing did not bode well. After a moment his smile reappears.

"I am certainly willing to go down there. We have already had quite the interesting day, but if anyone would prefer to rest first..." He looks to his companions, shrugging slightly. He did not wish to speak for them, and if they were not feeling up to it, he certainly was not going to press the issue.

Armon twinges with sympathy when Rexus is dealt the gremlin's revenge. He produces a handkerchief embroidered with the letters A.J. to offer to his fellow noble, only to be reminded that he was fully capable of cleaning himself off. Satisfied that his handkerchief would not have to be martyred to their cause, he puts it back into his pocket and does Rexus the courtesy of acting as though nothing had happened.

At the coffeehouse, Armon does nothing to stop the onslaught of confections, meeting the halfling baker with a broad smile. The combination of such sweets with the succor of coffee was just what he needed to ease up. He breathes deeply of the aroma rising from the mug, letting out a sigh of pure satisfaction - starting from the sewers, it was almost like passing from Hell into Heaven.

"Ahhh, yes. This is just what I needed," he remarks to no one in particular, graciously accepting Rexus' invitation. For a moment it seems like he has forgotten his reason for being there.

"Well, the letter did say that we would find something from which we might learn about the Silver Ravens' legacy here," Armon comments, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps this diabolical mess might explain their downfall."

"It seems likely that this..." He glances at Victor. "...celestial coffer, you called it...? Contains the truth that we seek. In any case, I would very much like to take my leave of this place. Hideout or not, I am not so sure that it can be salvaged."

Armon's eyes gleam with excitement when the contents of the crate spill out. Quite predictably, it is the silver morningstar they are most drawn to. Approaching carefully - almost reverently - the cleric stoops down to pick up the masterfully crafted weapon. Holding it in both hands, he raises it to eye level, reveling in its craftsmanship. A symbol of rebellion if he had ever seen one.

"I suppose that begs the question then," he starts without looking, lowering the silver weapon ever, "Of what is in the coffer now? This place seems like it was ransacked, perhaps in search of that very object. But as you say, no devil could have found it... and so here it remained."

I don't think mithral weapons take the -1 to damage.

Dang. Maybe I should have gone with silver balladeer after all. ;P

    Security
    Loyalty
    Secrecy

It's not terribly evident in my portrayal of Armon thus far, but once the rebellion is in full swing, security would be most fitting, considering he's a Milanite.

Armon follows after Victor, having no desire to sort through the countless pages of infernal jargon. Even though the creatures are all dead, he does not return his morningstar to his belt, despite his less than stellar performance with it. Regardless, simply having it at his side was enough to make him feel safe.

"My, this is quite the mess," he remarks bluntly, frowning at the catastrophic damage.

"The end is nigh!" Armon shouts as he swings his weapon overzealously, leaving himself wide open.

    Attack (Guidance, Inspired): 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4
    Damage (Inspired): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I didn't think we were doing fumbles, but if we are, let me know so Armon can smack himself in the face. :P

"Come now, keep at it!" Armon calls out, taking a moment to aim carefully before swinging yet again.

    Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
    Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

"Ah, there you are!" Armon says to Juniper absentmindedly, as he swings his morningstar again. The attack is utterly ineffectual, merely causing the fleshy blob to jiggle around. Despite being not at all surprised by the result, he frowns with disappointment. "I don't suppose you know what these creatures are?"

    Attack (Inspired): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7

"That's it! Keep the fiends at bay!" Armon says encouragingly, the weight of his words continuing to drive his allies into a fervor. Flipping his cloak over his shoulder, he makes his way toward the front line and draws his morningstar, swinging feebly at one of the creatures (red).

    Attack (Inspired): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 1 = 12
