I really wish I had not JUST renewed my subscriptions to both. I am kind of doubting as much work will go into the lame duck issues as otherwise went into issues. Maybe Paizo will surprise us. But, what incentive do they have to make these last issues any good? If we are subscribers, we are stuck with it either way, and there is no incentive to make great issues to try to increase circulation. I hope pride and decency win out, and they put forth a good effort. I'm very disappointed that the magazines will not continue. I will mostly miss the convenience of a hand held magazine. I don't have a laptop, so I would have to print out anything online to be able to take it to my game. My printer isn't that great and printed sheets can't hold a candle to the magazines. Although, with that being said, I have been a little put off by the editors at the magazines lately. It seems that when anyone would send in a letter saying they didn't like something the only thing the editors would do was try to ridicule the letter writer and put them down. I have no idea why WotC made their decision, but I would like to think content had something to do with it. And, if the editors (IMO) have been condescending to readers, maybe WotC saw the writing on the wall and pulled the plug.
Hit them in the wallet? It seems like people like you, who admittedly don't even subscribe to the magazine, have already hit them in the wallet and may have led to them not renewing Paizo's license. You sound like someone that would whine about music stores closing while copying downloads from others. It sucks that they are ending, but someone that didn't spend the money trying to hit them in the wallet is kind of silly (at least to me).
In comparison, I thought 2e was more simple, but had fewer options. It wasn't a bad system, and in some ways with it being more simple, I think it sometimes gave you more time to roleplay. You weren't busy double checking every rule, skill, and feat...especially as a DM. But, it was very limiting as far as what you could do. Multi-class was odd, and dual class was stupid. If you were a human and were a 5th level ranger, and decided to be a wizard, you all of a sudden lost the ability to use your tracking until your wizard level was higher. Well, you could use it, but then you got no XP. And, XP was nuts. Nearly every class advanced at different rates of XP, and it took forever to advance at higher levels, unless you were a druid. And, monsters were worth the same XP whether you were 3rd level or 10th level. So, 3e and 3.5 is a lot more "realistic" in a fantasy sense, and allows a LOT more options (partially to sell more books), but can play slower at times.
6'3" 222 lbs. Down from 257 in April. My goal is to lose at least 50 (would put me at 207), and then we'll see from there. Even at 257, I was fairly athletic (play softball and volleyball), but it's much easier after losing the weight. No screwy weight loss plans either, just cut down portion size, cut out soda and fast food entirely, and added exercise.

It's a little hypocritical to whine and moan about whining and moaning, isn't it? If you don't like the U.S., that's fine. But, given how many people are coming or trying to come into our country everyday, I have to doubt your claim that we wouldn't find anyone that likes the U.S. Sure, the U.S. has faults. What country doesn't? But, it's more a case of certain people, rather than the entire country. If you are basing your image of the U.S. on our leaders or what you may catch on TV, it's certainly not a clear look at what the majority of the country is like. But, that's you prerogative. And, if you don't like American football, then that's fine. Most of us don't like rugby or soccer. Maybe if you hate the U.S. so much, you should boycott all things American,.....movies, sports, gaming, etc. and stay holed up in whatever country you hail from. It would cause you a lot less distress. |
