When that fails, he realizes he may need to spell it out: “The Exemplar Khymrasa will see you now.” “If you would follow me to the Golden Tent. . .” ![]()

"Well, ah, I don't really know. As I said, the Exemplar is very busy. I can see what I can do to get an estimate." Karek Kogan wrote:
Karek appears to have stumped Anyo. He doesn't seem to want him to leave, but suddenly, nor does he want him to stay: "Ah, I'll arrange for one of the guards to show you where the nearest latrine is." Then after hesitation he decides he'd best clarify. "That's a place where you can address your 'personal business'." He claps his hands and the tent flap folds back and one of the four guards in front enters. The testamentarian repeats his request and the guard motions for Karek to follow him. ![]()
![]() Still eyeing the growing pile of weapons, Anyo continues his inquiries as to where you all hail from individually. He uses a piece of chalk to make notes on a special board of slate, translating for example, Karek's name into Osirion characters, and making a note that the dwarf has traveled from Kalsgrad. He doesn't appear to be making any effort to conceal his writing, and it is visible to those who can read Osiriani. More time appears to be ticking by - you have been waiting in the tent for perhaps 20 minutes or so now. ![]()

My staff and other traveling companions will of course observe all decorum in our dealings with the most high Examplar." No need for offence," responds the Testamentarian. "You may take it on full authority that the Exemplar has yet to give you a moment's consideration, let alone to have taken the time to think ill of you." He smiles to admire what he views as the keen wit of his back-handed reassurance. Then on seeing the steadily growing collection of weapons in the tent he adds: "You were expecting to be forced to repel some of those Chelaxian barbarians on your trip over I take it?" ![]()

But, mark my words a slave ain't nothin' but trouble for any who'd be havin''em.", Breach says responding a very typical dwarven fashion. Anyo claps his hands and sends the servants away who begin to scurry off. "Perhaps I can assist you then - I can assure you I am a free man," and with a smug smile he adds, "and on quite an excellent retainer." ![]()
![]() "If you will forgive my presumption, I suspect there are a few things you should know in advance of your audience this afternoon. . ." "First, never look an Exemplar directly in the eye, only a noble of equal or greater station can do such a thing - so don't stare, but do not avert your gaze either - she's not a basilisk." "Second, until she speaks to you, address all entreaties through her High-speaker. But if she asks you a question or acknowledges you in some way, answer her directly." "Also, and I take it this goes without saying, no weapons may be brought within 100 feet of an Exemplar." He glances at the party's many obvious and over-sized weapons. "You will need to store those here - same thing for anything that looks like a wand or staff." ![]()
![]() A minute or two after you arrive in the red tent, you are met by a scribe or administrator of some kind, who seems to be assigned to either watch over you or answer your questions. He politely introduces himself as “Ayno the Testamentarian” and explains it will be his job to introduce you to the Exemplar at the start of your audience. While a dark-skinned Garundi and native Osirian, Ayno speaks fluent Taldan (common), without trace of an accent. If anything, he might have been educated in Absalom. Ayno wears a drab grey robe and sandals. He looks to be in his late-forties with his shaven head attempting to conceal that his hair has turned snow white prematurely. Assuming you do not steer the conversation in other areas, Ayno appears primarily interested in mastering the correct pronunciations of your full names and ensuring you are kept well hydrated.
