Ok. So I have been researching rearing animals for my new character, Druid. Just a few questions because the language that is spread in every thread from all official sources is very vague.
1. How do you initiate a rear animal?
I know you would have to find cubs or eggs, etc... but do you then just look at you DM and say "Yes I'm rearing this now"?
Because, apparently, The rear animal check takes place halfway through the rearing cycle, which is ambiguous and most sources say is determined by DM, and the check is Handle Animal 15+ HD (+5 for magical animal). So wrapping up question 1 is there a handle animal check you do to initiate the process on the egg or cub?
2. While you are rearing an animal you can teach it tricks. Can you have the animal use those tricks before it is fully reared? tricks take one week each to learn so halfway through a 6 month rearing process before the rear check and animal with an intelligence of 2 could already know six tricks. Can they be used or do they just sit on the sidelines.
3. Do animals you are rearing instinctively know heel, aka do they follow you are do you have to compel them along your whole journey until they are actually reared?
If that is the case then it means more than a few sessions sitting in a fenced in area training wolves and doing nothing else which doesn't seem worth it. I'm a druid who needs to do his training on the go.
Any answers would be useful.
