As noted above, Weapon Master's Handbook carries rules for creating new weapons.

Tool (0 DP): The weapon can also serve as a specific mundane tool. Add triple the price and double the weight of the tool to the weapon’s final price and weight.

Check with your DM, but as this is has no change in the weapon's power, merely adding triple the item's cost to the base weapon, it should be suitable to add to any existing weapon and 'reskin' it as a war lute.

Thank you! That's pretty much exactly what I needed. I appreciate all the help from everyone who contributed!

I was thinking of having it be enchanted so that it wouldn't break. I'm not big on having it turn into a weapon or anything like that, I just want him to brain somebody with his lute because that's hilarious to me. But I did give him a short bow in the event that the lute thing doesn't work out for whatever reason.

Should be mentioned that I'm not trying to make a serious character here. He's absolutely off the wall ridiculous in every sense of the word.

I'm currently trying to build a Bard character, and I really, really want him to just use his weapon like a club and bash people over the head with it. Is there a way to do this without having to take the improvised weapon-centric feats and traits? I want this to be his main weapon of choice, I'm just not sure how to go about making it happen.
