About Amut Al'Noor
Background, Personality and appearance:
Background
Amut Al’Noor is undeniably a woman of two worlds. In her blood she’s a creature of the desert, a gift from her Janni mother. By education and values, courtesy of her father, she’s a child of Taldor, grown up on the streets of Oppara and matching herself again the young nobles in the art of the Rondelero.
This unlikely combination came about when her father, a young scion in a merchant’s family, was stationed in Qadira a few decades after the war ended. He got to learn the land and its people well, and made regular trips with caravans into the desert. On one of those trips, he met the woman who would later become Amut’s mother. A radiant Qadiran, blessed with all the beauty that the desert could hold. He instantly fell in love with her, and she in return was intrigued by his moral integrity, charm and persistence. She warned him then that she was not a creature of this world, that she went with the desert winds and would never settle. He did not care, and wanted to love her for as long as he could. Their meeting indeed lasted only a few days. He saw her only once more, almost two years later. This time, it was her that came to him. She carried a young girl in her arms, with bronzed skin and eyes without pupils. Even before she spoke, he know the child was his. For a brief moment, he pictured a happy future for the three of them, but he knew in his heart that this could never be. She had warned him that he wouldn’t settle, and he knew she had spoken the truth. Their meeting was familiar but uncomfortable. The Janni explained to the Taldan that it was time for her to leave, but that she wouldn’t take her daughter. As she put it, the young girl had the right to grow up with her father: “The desert will always be in her blood, but she needs to know about her father’s side as well. You must raise her, teach her your values.”
It was an unlikely story to be told when the young merchant returned to Oppara with a child, especially one so foreign-looking as Amut. The young father never married and defied convention even more by naming the girl in dedication of her mother. The two of them got along really well as she grew up. He recognized a lot of her mother in her, and appeared to know how to handle her fierceness. He gently guided her to restrain when needed, and allowed - encouraged her, even - to fight for when she was wronged. It was a pretty sight, the otherworldly young woman prowling the streets of Oppara, daring any of the young scions to best her in the art of Rondelero. She won many of her fights, and even her defeats she accepted in good grace.
Even before she turned 18, unrest settled in Amut’s body. She longed to travel the desert, to find out where her parents had met. Her father knew, as he had known before in the case of her mother, that it was time to let her know. He knew in his heart that she was going to do fine, and he wished her well on her voyages.
Since then, Amut her traveled Qadira and learned about the magic that springs from her elemental heritage. She didn’t stop there, though. She was still driven by the need to keep moving, to experience and explore. And like so many before her, these intentions led her to the Pathfinder Society.
Appearance
Amut is a tall woman, standing well over six foot tall. Her Suli ancestry shows in a bronzed skin that sometimes sparkles when hit by the light, in flowing dark hair that seems to catch the slightest wind, and in milky white eyes without color or pupil. Her dress is a cross between the styles of Qadira and Taldor: She wears loose-fitting pants under a white shirt and a short crimson coat. At her belt is a falcata of exquisite workmanship, the weapon of choice for the Rondelero duelists of Taldor. When she expects combat, she straps a buckler of the finest mithril to her forearm, light enough that it won’t impair her spellcasting.
Personality
Amut is fierce by nature, but she’s learned to temper this with restraint. She’s capable of observing and learning about what drives the people around her, although her true feelings are shown in her face for people who know where to look.
Because of her history, the Suli has learned to stand up for herself and for what she believes in. She’s quick to defend her honor, with words if possible and with the blade if necessary. She’s open-minded and trusting, although she rarely lets people get really close to her. Her humor sometimes comes across as a bit grim, which is something she’s working on.
