About Amely Petri

Description::
Amely cuts a striking dancer's figure; her natural olive tan and wavy black hair clearly mark her as Varisian, leaving her golden eyes the only standout feature. She dresses simply and for summer whenever she can get away with it--loose breeches or skirts, sandals and blouses, all of breathable fabrics and colorful as she can afford. An observant viewer might glimpse the tattooed songbird on one ankle or the butterfly on the other--her nods to the goddesses Desna and Shelyn.

Background::
Torn between the comfort of home in Sandpoint and the wanderlust that beckoned from the horizon, Amely took well to the caravaning life. When she wasn't tending to the horses or pestering Koya to let her drive a wagon, she was learning dances from locals and whiling away the days flitting between strangers and friends alike for attention. Just as Koya was beginning to think the girl would never amount to anything but a scantily-clad stablehand, she awoke one night to the sound of panicking horses and burning canvas. A wagon was on fire and Amely was asleep inside. Koya was the first to detect the flames and first to arrive. When she found a grey fox curled up in Amely's bed, she knew things were about to get complicated.

Neither of the two speaks much of the incident; by the time anyone else had arrived to deal with the fire, they were safely away and Amely had returned to herself. Koya wasted no time consulting known mages on Amely's newfound gifts; while some testing and training revealed the fiery magic in her blood, they could only guess at the fox--too powerful an effect for an amateur and far too precise for an accident. Curiosity at her heritage spiraled into wild theories, uncertainty and anxiety. For the first time in her life, Amely had no idea who she was.

The intervening years have taken the edge off her worries thanks to a few friends. Sandru always made a point to encourage her to be herself even when it sometimes got her into trouble, counterbalancing Koya's sometimes overprotective mothering. It took him some time to figure out how to keep a fox from sneaking into his foodstuffs; it's become a game to Amely.

Ameiko, gifted with some innate magic herself, did her best to counsel Amely in notions of magic and the blessing it could be. Her exotic instruments sometimes provided a strange, fascinating accompaniment to Amely's dances; the pair have passed more than one evening as a duet in the Rusty Dragon.

Shalelu, though often away from Sandpoint, first met Amely wandering outdoors as a fox; intrigued by the animal's unusual pelt and location, she gave chase. Breathless from the pursuit, Amely reverted to human form, expecting the worst; Shalelu, disappointed, blinked and said "Change back." The two eventually came to an easy understanding; Shalelu apparently liked foxes and Amely felt safe around the ranger.

Now a grown woman, she's learned to grasp her birthright with a bit more confidence despite the many unanswered questions. She carries on as if nothing's changed but she sees the writing in the sand: Koya gazes to the horizon, Ameiko grows distant from her patrons, Sandru's eyes gleam more with every passing tale of his adventures and Shalelu talks of travel. All her family and friends seem to be preparing to leave and Amely is determined not to be left behind.
She has questions that need answered, namely: why in Desna's name does she sometimes feel a pair of tails trying to emerge from her back?
