This is exciting! Knowing that in one round I might get to add another entry to my list of TPKs. Or Magrim gets to have a heroic last shot. I’m on the edge of my seat. Also…RIP Marcus. He died heroically.

Move Actions Attack of Opportunity1
FAQ
The rules are a little hazy here, but to put it simply, you can affect objects and creatures within your reach. When picking up or manipulating objects, you generally provoke an attack of opportunity, but only against foes that can reach your space. You do not provoke attacks of opportunity from foes that cannot reach you, no matter what action you are taking, even if it includes reaching into a threatened space. Although it might seem realistic to allow an attack in such a case, it would make the game far too complicated. --------- By this, I believe that the giant picking up the sword provoked an AOO. In gameplay I rolled the AOO. If it drops the giant? Awesome. If not? At least it makes the giant easier for someone else to put down.

The Azer spat on the ground, after taking a blow to the face from the giant's fist. He stepped in, ignoring the dead hydra, and focused his ire on the giant. He was thankful that it's blade had fallen, for he knew how dangerous it was when properly armed.

Swift action for another point of abjuration. Just like last round, having 20 points of temp HP. Was that taken into consideration last round? Not quite sure Quickness is up, for +1 attack, +1 to hit, +2 AC. Also have frost and giant and hydra bane on weapon. Not bothering with rolling fire damage Attack giant if it passes its ref save. If it fails attack the hydra

Amaimon barely avoided the blade which came down with earth-shaking force. *BARELY.* If he hadn't stepped out of the way at the last second, he would have died. It was a truth that he was forced to acknowledge, even as he leapt to the attack. His weapon and his armor were enhanced with his runes, which he relied upon to tear into the giant. In but a few seconds, a flurry of blows were unleashed. Just as he had come a hair's breath from death, so too did the giant face a similar predicament.

Quickness is up, which gives +2 AC. So AC 35 -> 37 to hit longsword, power attack: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (7) + 28 = 35 Miss
slashing damage, power attack: 3d6 + 34 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) + 34 = 47

Standard action for quickness. Aimaimon now has his legacy weapon and additional +1 Hit, +2 Ref/AC, +1 Attack, 12 rounds. Pushes AC up to 36. As he can't full attack this round anyways, might as well finish buffing. Swift action for "Mind Barrier (Sp) As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a shield of mental energy around you that protects you from harm. The shield prevents a total of 2 points of damage per occultist level you possess. It lasts until the start of your next turn or until exhausted." Therefore until the next round, he further has 24 temp HP as well Staring up at the giant and the hydra which loomed over him, the Azur calmly activated yet another rune. That he seemed so calm could be placed either upon his race's famed stoicism, or his own bravery. Or perhaps foolishness, given how dire the situation must have looked. * Focus Power
* Lvl 5 spells (2x slots)
----------------- Not the hardest level for when it comes to leveling up. Focus power is situational...but useful for when the party needs to rest. It's a nice way to spend leftover focus power at the end of the day. The biggest benefit here is overland flight. No longer need to burn focus points for flying unless the extra speed is truly required. And with 2 spell slots, if it runs out can always recast it.

Ah! My apologies. With that being the case, I will instead do this: Quickness (Sp) As a standard action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to grant supernatural quickness and reflexes to yourself or a willing living creature you touch. This functions as haste, but the bonus to AC and on Reflex saving throws increases to +2. This effect lasts for 1 round per occultist level you possess. You must be at least 5th level to select this focus power. With flight up, that is a 90ft move speed. It gets Aimamon 90ft forward to the giant, so a 5ft step next round will allow him to full attack

He added the last part in, knowing how foolish mortals could be. They had odd romantic notions of how blood offerings would be made.

K Religion: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39 The weight of years had imparted much knowledge to the Azer. It was not because he was a scholar, or that he had a natural ability. No, it was a byproduct of an ordered and curious mind, coupled with the removal of the limitation of time. Seeing the issue, he quietly thought about what might be the cause of the curse and how it could be overcome.

Amaimon, ever deliberate, studied the heavy brass doors before him. This was a problem, as the ghostly dwarf beyond was certain to attract unwanted attention. Even worse, the doors themselves were no ordinary barriers: they pulsed faintly, alive with the power flowing within. Yet Amaimon’s mind, honed by countless years in his craft, began to trace a solution. He could not simply bar them from his side. The doors swung inward into the ghost’s room…he knew that he could not just approach, lest his life force would be sucked away. But the doors were far too heavy for petty Cantrips. An idea hit him. It was a question of leverage. If he had a chain, looped over a hook, anchored at a precise angle to the frame…attach a small weight to hang from the other end, if balanced just right…then a simple Mage Hand could guide the chain. Then it would just need to release the weight, and send lever into motion… Step 1: Anchor a lever to the door frame on Amaimon’s side.

Aimaimon did not look at the spectral dwarf. He saw no reason to gloat, to apologize, or to attack. His mind was focused on the here and now, as well as what had to be done. "We move forward." He said, definitively, as he proceeded with opening the door.

This is my first time using an occultist at this level. It’s fascinating to me at how useless their actual spells feel. But their focus points and powers? It defines the class.

I’ll second this. I know what it’s like to play something you don’t enjoy (it’s why I gravitate so hard towards martials). It can be frustrating when the mechanics just don’t vibe. Would Marcus work better for you if he were something like a mesmerist? They are an entire class built around mind shenanigans. That would likely work better than relying on low level charm spells.

2 points to use this as an immediate action. Depletes it to zero. Swift action bring it back up, leaving him with 1 abjuration point. 20 points shield up now. 100/137. Base Focus Power: All occultists who learn to use abjuration implements gain the following focus power. Mind Barrier (Sp) As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a shield of mental energy around you that protects you from harm. The shield prevents a total of 2 points of damage per occultist level you possess. It lasts until the start of your next turn or until exhausted. For example, if you are 5th level, the mind barrier protects you from 10 points of damage; if you are hit by an attack that would deal 12 points of damage, the mind barrier is exhausted and you take 2 points of damage. You can activate this ability as an immediate action, but doing so costs 2 points of mental focus instead of 1. Hit: 1d20 + 24 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 24 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 34

The Azer was on his last legs. He did not panic, as he saw no point in doing so. Rather, he threw up every defense that he could, warding himself from the oversized blades that rained down upon him. Knowing that death was upon him, Aimaimon attacked with every ounce of strength that he had. For if he were to die, then he would at least go with the satisfaction of knowing that he had given it his all.

Stepping forth, Amaimon met the giants, matching strength with strength. His hammer flashed out, time and time again, hitting with all of the force that he could put behind it. Not at my computer arm. But will move to Magrim and can resist energy (fire) on his comrade ”This is not optimal. We need to put the ghost to rest with all haste.” The Azer wanted to kick himself for wasting time stating the obvious. It was unlike him to be so wasteful with words. Evidence, perhaps, of the stress they were under. He was more helpful, though, in his actions as he rushed over to Magrim to help hold the line.

The Azer doubted that the same trick would work twice; but he didn’t see any better plan of action. Still, he reasoned the that the goal was to delay the spirit, not destroy it. And thus far that was working adequately.
