Ever see BOFURI: i don't WANT to GET HURT so i'll MAX OUT my DEFENSE., the anime? I'm trying to make a Pathfinderized version version of the lead character, Maple, who was as laughably tough as she was slow. She was also known for getting around her extreme limitations in creative ways, like riding upon large companion creatures or using magic items for alternative forms of mobility. EDIT: I get that the math is tight in this game, and that I won't be able to min/max in the way a broken anime game allows, but I still hope to capture the spirit of the character by being real slow, then completely bypassing said limitation.
Sounds to me like players in general just need to toughen up. Adventure without danger is no adventure at all. Maybe if they had played a classic SNES game once in a while when growing up instead of that pay-to-win save-whenever-you-want garbage they'd have a different mindset. /fully tongue-in-cheek

That's very specieist of you. You should ashamed. Bantids can't help how they were born, and they're every bit as capable as any other species despite your lack of imagination. jk ;-)

Powergaming DM wrote: Are there any penalties to it grappling from being grappled by the shadows? I already included pray. Since it is being grappled by the shadows, it can only perform actions that don't require two hands. Attempting to grapple somebody without two hands nets you a a -4 penalty on the check. That may only apply to humanoids though. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. I think the intent of the rules is that you don't take a penalty to grapple YOUR GRAPPLER, or to escape YOUR GRAPPLER. I feel like you should take the penalty when trying to grapple SOMEONE ELSE, but that's not technically supported by the RAW (and is rather moot in this case since I think Allisar succeeded in grappling). Once she has the spear, Allisar does not maintain the hold, instead opting to get out of danger as quickly as possible. Is the round 9 order as follows?
If this is correct, I'll wait for Toran and Marten to declare their actions before confirming mine.

Allisar rides up to wall of flames, leaps off her horse through the fire, trudges through the grasping tendrils of shadow towards the massive monstrosity and attempts to rip the spear from its chloroform-filled hide. This has got to be the craziest, stupidest f@$*ing plan ever. Wall of fire damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (1, 3) + 11 = 15
No AoO's from the shambler so long as it's grappled. EDIT: Holy f##~! It looks like it all went in our favor!!!

God I hope that is a typo, but where electricity and shambling mounds are concerned, it might not be. ゞ◎Д◎ヾ Allisar moves into flanking, tossing her bow aside and pulling out her shield and bardiche. Mount had to double move this round to do get there, and all of Allisar's actions went to getting her weapons ready. Ride check to free up hands, DC 5: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Allisar attempts to move around the monster--giving it a wide birth--ultimately hoping to flank with her allies. She fires volley after volley of arrows from her bow as she does so. Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Allisar follows after Riva's lead, quickly positioning herself in front like a shield, firing a volley of arrows from her bow. "Gorum guide my hand!" Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

As Marten's band begins to move into the city, the break in the crowd reveals a dusky, green-skinned woman with large tusks sitting on the ground, previously hidden by their crowded bodies. Looking up, apparently having been bored by the sanctimonious ceremonies of introduction, she now looks up and--upon spotting Vallisa's approach--leaps up to her feet in a sudden burst of excitement exclaiming "Runt!?" |
