This intrigues me. If there's still some room left; How would you feel about some folks originally from Ravenloft? A couple friends of mine and I drew up a trio of characters for a homebrew Planescape sort of setting, wherein they got pulled out of Ravenloft by sheer luck, and have been soldiers/adventurers ever since. Allich here is even level seven, by a strange coincidence, although originally built to 30 point buy, so that would have to be toned down. Obviously, for purposes of this game, I wouldn't have the other two along, unless I can convince them to throw in their hats as well. If they're not around, I'd probably have to modify my suite of teamwork feats a bit, since they're (obviously) lame without the others around. Anyway, the full background is kinda long, but it's in the profile if you'd care to read it - I think it's kinda neat, myself. Modify any references to Arch (our homebrew setting) to refer to the Inn instead, and we're good to go, I think. Here's a nutshell version of the BG:
Nutshell!: Growing up in the harsh and terrifying demiplane of Ravenloft breaks many, but not all. Some grow to become true heroes, hardened by their experiences. Such is the story of Allich, Herac, and Orphax.
Conscripted at a young age into the army of the death knight Lord Soth, they grew weary of the death and fear they were forced to spread in his name and deserted. Hunted across the land, they eventually found themselves cornered, unable to run any further. Just as they were preparing for their last stand, they found themselves unexpectedly rescued by the most outlandish people they had ever seen, who offered them the most unusual offer they would ever receive - to forever leave behind the world of their birth and join a company of mercenaries that spanned the multiverse itself. When your world of Ravenloft, that is hardly a choice at all. Today, they have worked together as a platoon for many years, establishing a well-earned reputation as the hardiest shield wall this side of Mechanus. As with so many wayward travelers, the World Serpent Inn finds them there more often than not between jobs - because when you've made enemies across the worlds, there are precious few places you can put your feet up.

Allich leans casually with one hand on his spear. At Oprhax's comment, he smirks and throws a wink Herac's way. "Oh no, we couldn't have that, could we?" Privately, he files away the god's name for future reference. Sarenrae, hm? Melodic, that. Wonder if it...she? Hm. Wonder if the name's elven.

Shield up for a moment or two longer, Allich nods to Orphax's comment, his eyes scanning the area for the archer. "Maybe. Although the whole thing seemed a bit random to me in the first place." He turns his gaze to the new arrivals. "Thanks for the assist, folks. That might've gotten a bit more painful than we'd like if it lasted much longer."

Allich chuckles to himself, as if only involved in some light exercise. "On this big sod? We might be a bit soft lately, but-" He pauses a moment, taking an opening to stab quickly. "Ha!" "this bastard isn't gonna stay standing- Hya! - much longer." Full attack. First attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Second attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Without looking over, Allich leans slightly to the right, giving Orphax room to roll with the giant's blow. Abandoning the defensive posture, his spear flickers out once, then again, aiming for the arteries in the legs. Full attack. Attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

In the instant before the giant swings, Allich barks out a ringing "Ha!", and the phalanx steps forward in unison, weapons flashing out, but their shields remain high and at the ready. Five-foot step forward, and attack, fighting defensively. Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Damage 1d8 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (7) + (4) + 3 = 14

The last of the trio slams his shield into place in the position on the right. Not as thick as the first, nor as brawny as the second, he still settles in with a wiry power belying his whip-like frame. His spear twirls in his grip with a bit of a flourish, then steadies, waiting for their enemy. The spearhead flashes white, as if with a sudden heat, but unexpectedly, mist curls off the suddenly frozen blade. The soldier cracks a lazy smile as the giant charges closer, opening thin lips to speak to the other two in a dry voice that barely acknowledges the oncoming threat. "Let's see how much excitement our new friend there is looking for, hm?" Suddenly, as if responding to a signal only they hear, the phalanx of three plants itself, moving as one man, and their weapons flare in a cavalcade of light and energy.

Right, getting a little numbers work done. Mostly complete at this point, except for a few things I'll have to fill in with books in front of me (at work right now, roleplaying is frowned on). One thing I'm unsure of, though, is traits. I just wasn't sure what to pick up, really. There's quite a few that wouldn't hurt, of course, but nothing's really jumped out at me. Anyone have ideas for a reasonably high int/dex fighter? Oh yeah, and somebody mentioned to me that we get one of the background traits (child of etc.) extra. Is that the case?

Right, here we go. The numbers aren't as prettily organized as i might like, still missing traits and a few other things, but I did finish one bit I thought you all should be advised of - the first installment of our giant freaking background story. This is, of course, pending GM approval, as it's a little (okay, a lot) odd, but we've got a pretty cool story to tell here, so I hope you enjoy nevertheless. First part's going up in my profile, second part in Doomed/Orphax's, and the third in Sorok/Herac's. |
