Good catch, I'll fix it if I get selected or go with a different concept to give both of us a better chance of success.

Here is a character from an previous Legacy of Fire game that died very early on. I can details as needed. It does contain UM material in the form of the vermin companion.

Good luck, folks; all the characters look awesome.

The only thing that might require further adjustment is the equipment list. Otherwise everything should be goood to go. The giant scorpion animal companion is the only thing I can think of from the Ultimate books, but I'm at work, so don't have them with me to reference page numbers.

A character for a defunct legacy of fire game. I'll rework it as needed tomorrow, but this should get the basic idea across.

That's understandable. At least you have the courtesy to alert the active players to this instead of just disappearing. If you are truly not motivated, it may be best to drop it with a proper warning before you simply forget to check in. Some games just don't work out; it's the nature of this style of play.

"I will keep an eye out for Romard. For now, I better report back to Garavel." Alfred will take his leave of the herders, and do a sweep beyond the edge of the mass of footprints looking for any that look like they are coming or going or anything else out of the ordinary before reporting all of his findings to Garavel.

"Do you know of anyone who would have a motive to start the fire and risk the entire encampment?" Alfred asks as he tells Ruven to go wait by the tree so as not to scare the animals.

Just wanted to give you an update.

I'm not quite over the aforementioned depression but I also have renewed vigour about the campaigns. I will be working harder to paint the stage from now on. I hope the result will show.

Also, happy 4th of July to all Americans playing.

Don't worry about it. Everyone goes through such cycles; it's just a matter of being patient and working through them.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"If you think of anything else helpful, let me know. The sooner we get to the bottom of this, the better." With that, Alf will take his leave of the priest and go talk to the herders. "I hope we got all the animals caught. Do you know anything of this matter that might be of use?"

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Good to hear. I have not focused much on healing in my time in the desert, but I have picked up a bit here and there. What do you know of Elois? Do you know of any reason why someone would want to kill him and risk the entire encampment in the process?"

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"I suppose I can start with Father Zastoran if someone else wants to do a full head count before starting with the others." Alf heads back over to the halfling priest, "How is the patient doing?"

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"I suppose the first thing is to find out who is supposed to be here, and make sure that matches with who is actually here."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Ruven is my companion, yes. The last several years we have been kindred spirits wandering around the desert."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Alfred Windbottom, but call me Alf." Alf replies as he watches Ruven continue to dig; it appears to be something she enjoys doing. After a quick chuckle, "Ruven, come and let these good people get comfortable with you. Not everyone enjoys sleeping in a hole."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alfred will turn his attention to the fire, using create water to help douse it.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Letting the herders get the last of the goats, Alfred turns his attention to the fire, casting create water on it to help douse it.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

That is generally how I handle checks. Unless they are being specifically declared, everyone is generally taking 10. There are exceptions, like secret Perception checks when the players don't know they are in danger or skills that normally can't be used untrained, but for the most part taking 10 on non declared actions seems to do just fine. It allows characters to show a certain amount of basic competency in the skill areas they have trained in, and keeps the game moving.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

I can understand you frustration, as I DM myself, and slow pacing can kill a game if not watched carefully, but if that is the expectation, it shouldn't be a problem.

The players leaving is a occupational hazard, especially with an AP. You just have to work through it, and at least you have a good place to insert new players in if you wish to find a replacement.

Alfred can heal a bit, and change his focus a bit spell wise; having one or more people learn the Heal skill, and allowing the Cure Serious Injuries aspect to be used on an individual more than once a day (perhaps 1 + Con Mod per day, to reward those who took high Con)could help as well. Remembering about and using the other parts of that skill can also help alot. Peppering a few more potions of Cure Light Wounds to cover emergency healing might help as well. Healing in battle is generally a bad idea, and Alfred can provide emergency healing in such cases that it is needed, so learning to not rely on it isn't a bad thing.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

It might be best to slow it down a bit. A post every other day instead of every day, at least for now. Summer is a hectic time for most people. I would NPC Marketus for the rest of this encounter just for continuity and leave him as an NPC when the the party moves on.

Alfred will hastily cast stabilize on the dying man, unable to do much else quickly.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Don't forget Ruven is throwing a a screen of dirt in an attempt to slow the spread of the fire down.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Handle Animal 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Alfred works to round up the last of the animals.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Deal with the fire, Sihdrin. I'll take care of the animals." Alf heads over to the animal pens as he orders Ruven to start throwing dirt up on the backside of the fire to help keep it from spreading.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

How big is the main water bucket?

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

[ooc]Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

"That much smoke usually means fire. We'd better hurry."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alfred flips through the journal quietly before handing to Marketus. "Not sure if there is anything of direct value in here or not. Perhaps you can divine some meaning I can't."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Ruven will bury herself just under the surface 30 feet from the tent as usual after a short supper. Meanwhile, Alf pulls out the journal and gives it a more thorough examination.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alf will move 30' ahead and to the side of the party, switching from the camel to Ruven for a mount, so that Ruven can more comfortably use her tremorsense.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alf grabs the purse and the journal, which he plans on reading when they rest that night.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alfred strips the bodies of their gear as he tosses Ruven a treat from one of his pouches, letting his flamed hand dissipate. "Good job everyone. While Sihdrin is is scouting the area, lets get every thing of value from these gnolls before leaving them to the vultures. No point in in leaving potentially useful resources behind."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

You still need to confirm the crit, Hazem.

Alfred: AC 14, HP 9
Ruven: AC 12 HP 14

"Ruven, gnoll by friend, attack." Alfred commands his friend forward as he launches another ball of fire towards the gnoll in E7. Ruven bursts out of the sand and charges forward, grabbing at the gnoll with her pincer.

Alfred starts chanting, and yet another ball of flame appears in his hand.

Casting Produce Flame from his spell slot.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

AC 14, HP 9

Another ball of flame replaces the first one briefly before Alf sends that one flying at the same target as the first one. Ruven waits patiently just under the surface. Alf has the camel ready to move back as soon as a foe gets within Ruven's tremorsense, at which point Ruven will charge.

ranged touch attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
fire damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

I love pyromaniac.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

I'd probably stick with 5. It may take some adjustments on our part, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Ruven, dig." Alfred commands quietly as his fist lights up with fire. The scorpion digs down 5 feet where she can wait undetected until her prey comes closer to Alf's camel. To the others, "I would recommend keeping your distance from my camel until you see Ruven again if I were you." He stands ready to start flinging fire as soon as the first gnoll gets within range (120 feet).

Alf will watch, and be ready to use his natural abilities to cast Produce Flame as soon as combat manifests itself. Ruven will wait by Alf's camel ready to attack anything that comes too close.

"Either way, I suggest we stop here and wait to see if they approach. Alfred readies his crossbow just in case of trouble.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

"We have company up ahead. Can't tell what though."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Certainly. The desert can be most beautiful after a rain shower, but it is also at it's most dangerous as well."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

I'd give Khasud until Friday, and Hazem another week after that. 2 weeks seems to be about right for booting. It gives people time to recover from real life at least long enough to get to a public computer and update their situation.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Getting used to the normal routine of the trip, Alfred starts talking with his companions, trying to get a full measure of their capabilities so that when real trouble does hit, the group can already be ready for it.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

The weekend. It happens occasionally around here. I wouldn't stress it too much.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

So far so good.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

Alfred sends in Ruven to handle wake up duty as he finishes his morning meditation. Having a sense of humor, Ruven decides to Hazem as her plate to finish off her latest catch, a lizard that strayed too close to the tent.

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Ruven eats the same things her smaller wild cousins do, just in greater quantities. Fortunately, she can hunt it up herself easily enough for the most part, so I don't usually have to worry too much about it."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"No, it's for you. It's called trail food. Better get used to it." Alfred smiles as Hazem puzzles over the jerky.

When they setup camp, "Perhaps some kind of watch would be good tonight, as we don't have the sandstorm and oasis to provide us protection. I can take last watch."

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

After finishing up his meditation as Ruven eats breakfast, Alfred helps with the remainder of the packing, and stays close to Hazem to quell any problems before they start today.

Survival to determine weather for the day 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

male Gnome Desert Druid 1

"Should be easy enough to deal with." Alfred comments as he calmly ties up his bedroll before going to calm them down.
