That's understandable. At least you have the courtesy to alert the active players to this instead of just disappearing. If you are truly not motivated, it may be best to drop it with a proper warning before you simply forget to check in. Some games just don't work out; it's the nature of this style of play.

"I will keep an eye out for Romard. For now, I better report back to Garavel." Alfred will take his leave of the herders, and do a sweep beyond the edge of the mass of footprints looking for any that look like they are coming or going or anything else out of the ordinary before reporting all of his findings to Garavel. Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Don't worry about it. Everyone goes through such cycles; it's just a matter of being patient and working through them.

"If you think of anything else helpful, let me know. The sooner we get to the bottom of this, the better." With that, Alf will take his leave of the priest and go talk to the herders. "I hope we got all the animals caught. Do you know anything of this matter that might be of use?"

That is generally how I handle checks. Unless they are being specifically declared, everyone is generally taking 10. There are exceptions, like secret Perception checks when the players don't know they are in danger or skills that normally can't be used untrained, but for the most part taking 10 on non declared actions seems to do just fine. It allows characters to show a certain amount of basic competency in the skill areas they have trained in, and keeps the game moving.

I can understand you frustration, as I DM myself, and slow pacing can kill a game if not watched carefully, but if that is the expectation, it shouldn't be a problem. The players leaving is a occupational hazard, especially with an AP. You just have to work through it, and at least you have a good place to insert new players in if you wish to find a replacement. Alfred can heal a bit, and change his focus a bit spell wise; having one or more people learn the Heal skill, and allowing the Cure Serious Injuries aspect to be used on an individual more than once a day (perhaps 1 + Con Mod per day, to reward those who took high Con)could help as well. Remembering about and using the other parts of that skill can also help alot. Peppering a few more potions of Cure Light Wounds to cover emergency healing might help as well. Healing in battle is generally a bad idea, and Alfred can provide emergency healing in such cases that it is needed, so learning to not rely on it isn't a bad thing.

It might be best to slow it down a bit. A post every other day instead of every day, at least for now. Summer is a hectic time for most people. I would NPC Marketus for the rest of this encounter just for continuity and leave him as an NPC when the the party moves on. Alfred will hastily cast stabilize on the dying man, unable to do much else quickly.

Alfred strips the bodies of their gear as he tosses Ruven a treat from one of his pouches, letting his flamed hand dissipate. "Good job everyone. While Sihdrin is is scouting the area, lets get every thing of value from these gnolls before leaving them to the vultures. No point in in leaving potentially useful resources behind."

Alfred: AC 14, HP 9
"Ruven, gnoll by friend, attack." Alfred commands his friend forward as he launches another ball of fire towards the gnoll in E7. Ruven bursts out of the sand and charges forward, grabbing at the gnoll with her pincer. ranged touch attack 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (7) - 2 = 5 (taking into account melee penalty
Ruven attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

AC 14, HP 9 Another ball of flame replaces the first one briefly before Alf sends that one flying at the same target as the first one. Ruven waits patiently just under the surface. Alf has the camel ready to move back as soon as a foe gets within Ruven's tremorsense, at which point Ruven will charge. ranged touch attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

"Ruven, dig." Alfred commands quietly as his fist lights up with fire. The scorpion digs down 5 feet where she can wait undetected until her prey comes closer to Alf's camel. To the others, "I would recommend keeping your distance from my camel until you see Ruven again if I were you." He stands ready to start flinging fire as soon as the first gnoll gets within range (120 feet). Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

"No, it's for you. It's called trail food. Better get used to it." Alfred smiles as Hazem puzzles over the jerky. When they setup camp, "Perhaps some kind of watch would be good tonight, as we don't have the sandstorm and oasis to provide us protection. I can take last watch."
