About Alfeo:

Alfeo Taproot was born in rural Isger, the son of parents who fled from captivity in Cheliax. Raised in a small community of Caydenites, he quickly tired of life on the farm and set out for adventure. He spent a while moving from place to place, traveling and working in towns throughout eastern Isger. Eventually, he settled in Breachill. He found a job at the local tavern and settled in, finally putting down roots. He worked his way up to bar manager, eventually purchasing the tavern from the previous owner when they retired. Life in Breachill suited Alfeo, even if it wasn't always easy. The bar saw enough traffic to stay afloat, and Alfeo spent his days happily plying his clients with the wisdom of the Lucky Drunk sprinkled in with the fruit of vine and barrel.

Alfeo's peaceful existance came to a screeching halt, along with the rest of the town, when the Order of the Rack arrived. The Hellknights left residents with very little freedom, and assembly at places like taverns was particularly curtailed. Alfeo did his best to survive, just like his neighbors, and do what he could to support his adopted community through this trying time without drawing the ire of the Hellknights.

The situation turned once more when the Eagle Knights arrived to free the town. Suddenly, the breathless existence under the heel of the Hellknights was replaced with the chaos of battle. With his friends and neighbors panicked and searching for safety, Alfeo ushered all he could find into the shuttered and quiet tavern, doing his best to keep people calm and hidden from bloodshed outside.

The moment of safety would not last. A squad of Hellknights caught sight of the gathered townfolk through a window and kicked down the door, assuming the cowering people to be conspiring Hellbreakers. Things would have gone badly were it not for a lone Eagle Knight that appeared in the doorway. Despite his obvious wounds and broken empty scabbard, he rushed to the townsfolks' defense. Sweeping up a discarded pick from the ground beside the door, he charged the Hellknights. His sudden bravery caught the Hellknights unaware, and h quickly slew one of their number. The Hellknights' numbers quickly turned the tide, however, and soon he was on his back foot. The To their credit, many of the gathered residents rallied to him, reaching for whatever was near at hand to serve as weapons. The battle was intense, but the Hellknights were not prepared to fight a mob. When two more of their number were killed, the rest withdrew, leaving several townsfolk injured but miraculously none fatally. However, their savior had born the brunt of the Hellknights ire, and succumbed to his wounds moments after the Hellknights withdrew.

In the days following Breachill's emancipation, the town slowly rebuilt. The battle in the tavern was just one of many tales of heroism. Still, Alfeo sought out the fallen Eagle Knight's company, sharing the tale of the man's fall and learning his savior's name: Erlo Aduzzi, known affectionately as "Early". Returning to the bar, he carefully painted the word Early on the wall beside the end of the bar, and leaned the pick the man wielded on the last seat by the wall, forever marking that as "Early's seat".

Alfeo's nights were troubled, however. He dreamed of battle, and of black-clad Hellknights, and of fire. Mostly, though, he dreamed of the Eagle Knight. In Alfeo's dreams, the man could be seen in the distance, striding purposefully forward, his eyes shining. A voice seemed to call to Alfeo as he awoke: "Help them!". Every night the man's steady march brought him closer and closer, until finally the man stood before him staring into Alfeo's eyes. That morning he awoke, the feeling of the man's hand on his shoulder lingering as the voice rang in his ears: "You have to help them!"
