5 people marked this as a favorite.

We live in times that require for us to think of our fellow humans. This is as everyone says the right call. A pandemic that wipes out thousands removes potential gamers from the world.

I am always heartened when I see the same message over and over again. Stay safe, disappointed but peoples lives come first.

Im giving you all a +1 on your next social based skill check.

We will come through the other side of this and it will hopefully allow us to feel more connected in the future.

Anyone here know gamers that have been affected by the floods and cyclone.

I Have started a blog and want to get gaming material to people who have lost everything in the storms.

If you are aware of anyone who is currently doing it tough and rebuilding please point them here

http://savevsstorm.blogspot.com/

And let them know that while I may not be able to replace everything they have lost I hope that I can at least provide some material so that they can get through the following months when things are going to be tough.

Thanks

Last week looked on in horror as many, many lives were impacted by the pure fury or mother nature. This is terrible and as I saw this happen I had to ask the question.

What about Gamers?

What about those people who lost everything in the floods and cyclone.

Rebuilding is not going to be easy.

It is going to take months or in some cases years and it will not be an easy task. So my goal is to get gaming material to those who have lost everything.

But I need to know who has been impacted by this terrible event.

This is a general call to all gamers and those who know of gamers who have been directly impacted by the events of the last few months.

I want to help. So what I am doing is contacting ALL game companies that I can think of and asking for them to contribute any CORE rule books that they are able to donate to this cause.

I am hoping to be able to at least get some stock to the people who need it the most.

At this time I have had some agreement from game to donate books it is hard to get stock to australia from other contries so this agreement is beyond generous.

I have contacted several companies and will be contacting others including Piazo but at this stage I really need the communities help.

I believe there are many gamers out there who have been deeply impacted by this and have lost all there books. I want to get gaming material to those who need it and i want to share this information with those companies that I have approached to give them some idea of the number of gamers who have lost all there gameing books.

Also any donations that members of this community is happy to contribute will be greatly appreciated.

I have started a blog here
http://savevsstorm.blogspot.com/

Please inform me of any gamers who have been impacted and how I can get gaming material to them

This is something that I am doing for no other reason that I really want to help so please contribute in anyway you can

Thank you

Karl

Saber how did the game go? Anyone else want to share any more experiences about how they got younger players into the game?

Liberty's Edge

Probably too late in the development cycle to add my requests but I would like to throw in my 2 cents.

What I need in a Piazo RPG.

A down and dirty adventure / Creature toolkit that I can use to run my adventures. Stats for Guards/ Man at Arms/ Soldiers to throw at my party

Some kind of GM tool kit with common locations with maps. Eg Tavern (Small, Medium and Large) Church. Mannor house.

Environmental Hazards to add to the game and finally a guide to campaign design that breaks it down step by step.

Eg Starting a campaign section. A mid campaign section (How to take what you have built and tie it together into a stronger whole and finally a wrap up thread. Using the information that you gathered in the last step to tie it up so the players feel like they got there money's worth.)

How to customize published adventures (and not just to obligatory one paragraph description of how you can use pre published adventures.)

I would like a guide that takes you through how to take the adventure and make it your own, and also how to take an adventure that was sub par and give it a lift.

In short I want something that after many hours of digesting my players are going to really benefit from my having read this material.

So I may have touched a few things already in progress and if that is the case then I will be happy. I am wishing for the ultimate GM Book that gets so much use that it falls apart. Haven't found the book that hits that beat for me yet

Liberty's Edge

Thank you soo much for making the PDF $10. I can in no way afford the hardcover at the moment. (Just changed jobs ) and this gave me a wonderful opportunity to buy the book. Thank you Paizo.

Hm. Well, I just brought an entire family into role-playing. (13F, 11F, 12M, and their father, 38M.)

Of course, it helps when you own your own store and know every product in it.

Saber that is awesome.

I wish that we could add a logo to your profile. The best I can do is bestow a honorary title of "Order of the Gamer" unto you for services to the future of gaming.

While I was the first to point out that this sounds a bit predatory in the wrong terms, "grown adults should never be playing cards with kids" is a big knee-jerk reaction.

The OP wasn't talking about strip poker.

Thanks Kuma,

That is my point .

The facts are that the player base is aging. We need younger players because the hobby dies when we do. That is the cold hard facts so anything that we can do to bring younger players into the hobbie is a good thing.

The thing is that this post is in responce to the video. If you watch the video you will get the context. If you don't want to get the context I am not going to spend time adressing a juvinile reaction to an innocent suggestion.

Kumar it does sound a bit dodgy but you know what I think that most people with a brain and good sense understand what i am trying to say.

For me this is about my 4 and 1/2 year old son having a game to play when he is 12. I want my grand kids rolling d20s

I understand that people will complain about the future of the hobby. I wanted to offer a suggestion to help find a solution.

Also when people look at ccgs they talk about the time and money investment, all i am suggesting is invest enough money and time that you can afford. but remember that it is an investment in the future of the hobby so you are not wasting money and you never know you might enjoy yourself.

For me I just play mtg at the local game store. im just another guy with a deck.

Liberty's Edge

I was using CCGs as an example. People are wondering how to get new people into the hobby. CCGs are a great source of players interested in fantasy ect. That is my idea. Hence if you are not looking for new ways to get younger players into the hobby then this post wont be relevant.

On the other hand some people who have the same reaction to you are going to have to overcome it. I mean I go to the FLGS and there are at least 100 kids playing magic ect. And if every person who wants to bring younger players into the hobby went out and got just 3 kids into the hobby (Paizo RPG specifically) we could triple the number of people buying and playing the game. This would have an on flow effect (Paizo would become a stronger healthier company).

The effort is going to be worth it

But then that is my opinion

Liberty's Edge

Ok so watched the Paizo future videos and also watched the general commentaries in the comic book industry about the aging fan base and how to get new blood in the industry.

I have a couple of ideas for getting new players.

1) Go to where the players potential players are. I am not talking about Paizo. I am talking about you the person who is reading this. You have to be proactive about this. I mean yes Paizo will do its own research and have its own initiatives. But we also have to do things.

Go play yugioh, Magic the gathering ect. Games that kids like to play. Join the community get to know the kids and then introduce them to RPGs. I know that most of us was at one time or another that kid that just wanted to be taken seriously by adults. Not only will you be adding new players but also you will be giving some kids a sense of value by having adults take them seriously. That is more valuable than gold.

This means yes playing games that you may look down your nose at, but remember that one of the reasons that RPGs exploded was that Wargamers looked down there noses at kids when they were interested in the hobby in the late 70s early 80s.

It is past time for us to go where the kids are that we want to get into the hobby.

Maybe carry a set of rules with you and have the rule books with your stuff when you are playing cards so when some players are waiting to play they can look through the rulebooks.

I would like to recognize those members of the paizo community who introduce people into the hobby in the last 12 months so if you reply to this please put at the bottom of the post a number and the ages of the players. EG. 4(15,17,22,27)

2) Direct people toward Paizo.com. I did a blog post http://www.itsallgeektome.net/elves/ where i directed people toward the website and the pathfinder RPG. If you have a blog use it to talk about RPGs and fly the flag a bit for your hobby and offer people a way to find the games. If you are on facebook mention when you are playing on your status and give people a place to find RPGs.

Lisa if you read this, I know how swamped you guys are but I would love to have a website or portal that was designed just for newbies. A site that I could link to and looked flashy and maybe had a video that a 12 year old kid could log into and was brought up to speed on the hobby and Paizo and why RPGs are cool.

The site is cool, but really it is just a shop with social aspects bolted on. The social aspects work well but still when you go to the home page it is just a store.

We all found RPGs once we knew that they existed and where to find them.

So they are just a couple of ideas that I had.

Oh and 3 (31, 33, 30) Yes they were all over 30 but I am still proud that I introduced more people to the hobby.

A point of order on Theris Nordo Ichka's review.

Gygax was not influenced by Tolkien he wasn't a fan. More Robert E Howard, Morecock ect.

Curious to see what these third party 4E adventures are like.

Anyone played or read one yet?

Liberty's Edge

Great book from my flick through I have to say Good job done by all.

I like the way that it presents Elves as a whole and goes into each of the sub races.

Good work

Liberty's Edge

I am subscribing and I visit the D&D site once a day.

Love the content and with the 4E rules I am a happy DM. I have happy players who are enjoying the game.

Love what I have got so far.

Paizo gets $10 a month on EBooks so does wizards I dont have problem with it. I would love if Paizo had a $AU option for the store Wizards offered it and i am sooo happy.

Just a minor thing

Liberty's Edge

I have to say. Paizo did the right thing with Pathfinder. Their book keepers would agree. Besides I cant help but notice that high quality product is good for everyone.

I may only play 4E but I still buy Pathfinder. Love the art. Interested in having a cool world that I can use and I love searching for ideas to use in my game.

Everyone wins.

3E hold outs get to keep playing.

4E players get fluff they can use.

Paizo gets to keep game designers employed.

Paizo gets to make money.

Other 3E publishers get to have a rulebook they can point to.

Everyone wins.

Comedy

Comedy comes from things that will make the players laugh and that is hard.

My idea.

Rescue the Sloopy.

Sloopy are an extra planner creature that are white round and have two leggs and a large set of eyes.

They act as a filter between the world and the underworld. They catch souls of insignificant creatures that would otherwise flood the underwold with excess of soul energy. Think about what would happen if the souls of every ant, weevil, bug and fly started to fill the underworld.

One of Hell's high inquisitors has a son who one day decided to play a prank and accidentally unleashed a flood of raw hell fire near the soul veil. The explosion tore a rift into the realm of the Sloopy and all the creatures were sucked through.

The players are 'invited' to go into hell and round up the happless creatures before they are destroyed.

The effects of the Abyss has strange effects on the sloopy.

Some are cursed and a couple become Vampiric :) (Imagine a white blooby thing with evil intent big eyes and fangs. I'm just saying.)

The chaos that it could cause would be legendary. The potential would be wonderful.

Even better if the Sloopy have an effect on the Demons and Devils similar to THC so that the players discover very chilled out easily distracted but ravenously hungry Demons.

Vote Rescue the Sloopy as the next pathfinder module.

I am a little different. So far I haven't seen what I want in an AP.

One of the things I would love to see a Lizardmen campaign. I love Lizardmen and would love an AP that focuses on this particular fantasy race and gives us something new.

If not an AP at least on adventure.

My idea would be an adventure where two warring factions of Lizardmen have been building to all out war and a small village stuck in the middle.

Add some Knights and cool elves and maybe a good dragon and I am sold.

Also I would love a green dragon adventure (Plus please please Mr Mona if you have the chance) Please, please re- design the green dragon I hate the design that they have at WOTC. I am such a fan of the green Campaign Box set dragon I would really love to see a really cool Green.

Ahem back to topic

My Party is still in the Whispering Cairn. I have a whisper gnome rogue a human fighter (who will become a counter speller)a NPC figther run by one of the players as a second (the first Fighter is filling the Mage spot) and a Cleric. (I have three players so it is kinda hard

The whisper gnome has a very scary hide check. The fighter character (NPC) almost died cos of the lurking strangler. The party set off the stone trap. But managed to avoid the Inidgo elevator.
