Al-Godón heads in trying to carry the full authority of the Order he has been given. Realizing that this is far beyond the previous things he's been able to help with, he's a little cautious and nervous. He hopes his training is helping him hide that trepidation. Mynis Morne wrote:
Well, it is me that should appologize for that assumption. Though even as a witness I'm sure you're doing what you're able to do to help. Hopefully you'll see or hear something that will jog your memory. Let us join the Lord and see if this whole mess can be dealt with quickly.

But of course. The Order of Aster would be happy to assist in anything that is bringing this sort of stress to the locals here. Alkuin wrote: Xander, smile once again gone from his face at the mention of his work, looks back towards Mynis and Nash to see if they are ready to continue onward towards the lord's manor. Al-Godón leans towards Mynis and Nash and offers a hand. Greetings good men. I assume you are here to help with this as well. I know not your capacity here, but if this man (Al-Godón gestures to Xander) is looking for this much outside help, it must be something quite unusual. This is usually such a quiet town. With that, Al-Godón falls in behind Xander. Mynis wrote: Because Xander is on duty, and assuming a church knight wouldn't want any, the dusky skinned warrior re-stoppers his flask and stows it away, then waits patiently as the two men finish up their greetings. Al-Godón eyes the flask and smiles at the gesture. While he may refuse it because he's in an official capacity, his countenance shows that he isn't forbidden the drink when relaxing. Al-Godón remembers an old church friend who was fond of saying, "Crops of all varieties are a gift from Lathander, and his blessing extend to all forms of food and drink that can be made from them ... as long as moderation is observed." Al-Godón remembers this same person's usual lack of that same moderation and smiles at the memory. When there is time to pull Xander aside...
Spoiler: Al-Godón pulls Xander aside to speak with him privately and explains the situation about the kids. It may seem unusual, but I spoke with a handful of local kids who were planning to track down this murderer themselves. I spoke with them and tried to give them some direction. At that age, being told "no" usually just causes them to sneak behind the back of authority, and keeping these kids visible to me seemed like a better way of keeping them safe. They are less likely to do something rash and unpredictable than if they have someone they feel is on their side. I'd like to keep them at least partially involved so I can keep an eye on them. If you don't feel it's appropriate, I can go speak with them.

We don't really know anything yet about who it may be, but can't eliminate anything either. Have you heard anything about the murders themselves? Maybe who was killed, or how? This may give us some clues as well.

Getting a little frustrated with this kid, but it's mud I stepped in... You see, when I said I needed to go over anything you and your pals knew before talking to the militia, I meant simply, I need to know what you and your pals already know before I go talking to the militia. With a little info that you already have, I can use it to get even more information from the militia. After a pause... So, to answer your question, *you* are the first person I need to talk to. What have you heard already around town about this murderer?

It means cotton in arabic. My horse's name means, approximately, "beauty mark". When Spain was rules by the moors, they picked up TONS of words from the arabic language. Algodón (one word) is cotton in spanish. If you look at just about any word in spanish that starts with "al", it generally has moorish origins. Almuerza, etc. So, the short version of the answer is "yes", mostly.

Horse-wise, as long as you can take a 10 and get a 10 (i.e. no stat penalty) then you can do basic stuff on a horse. In a battle I'd recommend getting off the horse, fast, but otherwise you can ride fine. If I'm the knight in shining armor, does that make you the bad-boy that goes home with the girl?

This may not have been such a good idea... "I think we could work this out. I'm afraid that chasing down a murderer may not involve that much money. For instance, if we find gold with the murderer, we may need to give it to the town as evidence. That said, anything that doesn't need to be evidence, and if there's any reward I think we could split. If you want people, especially your parents, to not know about it, I can collect the reward on our behalf and split it afterwards. As someone sworn to protect , I have one additional condition. If it looks like a fight may break out, you'll do EXACTLY what I say. If anyone is going to get hurt catching this person, it should be me - I don't want you risking harm any more than you have to." Assuming there's some agreement, we'll try to find somewhere private to talk. "So, let's start by finding out what information we have. Once we have that, I can talk to some of the guards and see what they know and we'll come back and see what we can connect. The guard will be more open talking to me than they would to a bunch of kids." How many kids are there, and what is the approx age range?

I'm currently using the following system. Please let me know if you'd like a change: General text: actions and such. "normal things" Bold: Direct speech (as opposed to indirect "I talk to X about...") Italics: Thoughts to self and other things to explain motivation OOC: OOC remarks that are still about the character (note earlier reference to diplomacy checks and the like) Spoiler: OOC remarks that are also out-of-game, like this little explanation here. Also useful for "secret" stuff, but that hasn't really come up yet, and I don't see Al-Godón as big on secrets, generally. The crowd will complain but die down on its own, so there probably isn't a great need in pacifying them. Letting people get their complaining out in the open will hopefully help them calm down. Dispursing them, even nicely, may cause those same complaints to fester. I make sure the merchant can see his cart or is otherwise near it and then will wander towards the kids, trying to not run if possible but still try to gradually close. (All the while diplomacy checking, taking 10 [for 17] if practical...)
The town watch isn't likely to look kindly on kids taking risks, but kids, being kids, are likely to get themselves into trouble anyway. If I work with them I can get useful info and also keep them being productive while taking fewer risks. Left undirected they may walk into something unsafe. With help, I can give them tasks that will keep them involved without putting themselves in as much danger. This seems like the best way to protect a group that may rush ahead thoughtlessly. Assuming they accept, or at least want to hear more... Let's first adjurn to my room. We can talk there without getting you kids into trouble. First, though, we should check in with your parents and let them know not to worry. They will hopefully be more lenient if you're staying at a priest's home with a knight working with (protecting) you. I'll track down parents in the crowd and speak with them. Anyone who I can't convince with diplomacy, I'll agree with and try then to diplomacy that individual child to remain with their parents. I won't mention that they want to track down the murderer, but will explain my overall thoughts (see thoughts above) to them if they push and want to know what they'll be doing in the house. If they snuck out alone they'd be in far greater risk. The parents should be assured that the kids will all be escorted home at night.

I move the cart to be somewhat out of the way of other people but within earshot of the podium, if it isn't already. I'd like to be able to hear and see what people have to say, but also want to stay near the cart until the man returns. Preferably, I'd like to be close enough I could shout to the podium easily enough and ask a question while the group was still there, though in a group of 100 or so, I doubt that'd be a problem from any location. Still, if getting closer was easy, I'd like to pull the cart, still keeping it out of the way, and myself closer. During any speech, if the crowd gets excited and the Lord is trying to calm them down, I'd like to assist him (diplomacy) in doing so.

No problem, good sir. I mean no bother by my presence. If you could let the lord know that I'm in town again, I'd appreciate it. I'm staying with the Chautnea priest. I then head over to the market to see if there are any seed or vegetable vendors to trade seeds with. Afterwards, or if nothing pans out, I think a relaxing evening after the work on the farm is warrented and will help the priest help prepare dinner for whomever is at the residence. After dawn's prayer, I want to head to the repair work on the fencing and will see if there is a place I can help out. Is the priest's name Fredrick, or is that just a churchmember?

Upon return, I aknowledge the guard that let's me in and depending on my perceptions of how busy Lord Chinilvur is, I would like to make sure he knew I was in town again. If he appeared extraordinarily busy with tasks, I will wait on this. From there, I want to check in with the local church (doesn't need to be Lathander specifically, but one that is friendly disposed) and greet people as they come to the church. Since the church is often a place in town that bereaved, sick, or other needy people go, I would want to make sure they had the help they needed before going anywhere else. If I had a reliable place to stay before, I'd want to make sure it was still available, or else some of my time would need to be spent in securing lodging for myself and my horse, even if that location was the same for both of us. While an inn or something would work, I'd much prefer to talk to someone in the market or nearby that I may be able to trade labor for a place to lay my head. I wouldn't, however, want to bother any of the people I was helping at the church (if any) for this accomodation. Since they would be in more need, I don't want to burden them any more. If anyone in the market is selling seeds, I'll want to talk to them about maybe trading some seeds so I can have a larger variety of crop seeds. I would only be willing to trade evenly since having that variety isn't more important than having enough seeds to actually help people. If they weren't interested in a trade, I'll leave it alone. Hopefully the ability to sell seeds from further away would be enough incentive to trade away some local varieties. That, assuming I'm not interrupted, should take most of the rest of the day. Spoiler: Generally, when in town if I can find a secure location for it, I won't be wearing my chain shirt. It seems a bit stiff and formal. Obviously, when stiff and formal is required, I'd wear it, or if I was expecting any sort of trouble. Normally I would expect to keep it on my horse, or in maybe the church if they'd have it. I assume my tunic would have the symbols of both Lathander and the Order of the Aster on it, and I keep my morning star available to me, peace knotted when asked.

Mynis - it may be useful-ish to post your character stats in your profile for easy reference. That way you can keep your character updated, and Stefan can just clicky on your mug to see what your current stats and things are. Clicky on my beautiful face for an example. I haven't put up the background info that Stefan and I have mailed back and forth, but it's at a start, there. edit: I have put up a little background, but it's not really complete yet |
