BACKGROUND Spoiler:
Born to the wealthy Henderthane family, Akorian grew up in the capital of Cheliax surrounded by the weapons of war. For centuries, his ancestors supplied the Chelish armies and their allies with finely crafted arms. Many of his own brothers and cousins became great warriors and master swordsmen in service to the Infernal Majestrix. But Akorian's heart proved far too rebellious to stay in Egorian.
Fed up with House Thrune and his family's obeisance to them, Akorian eventually left the capital shortly after his father's death. He retired to Westcrown and the original Henderthane estate abandoned there when his father relocated to Egorian with House Thrune's decision to move the capital of Cheliax. In his exile, Akorian hoped to find inspiration in the original faith of Aroden and the god's many saints rather than the diabolists leading the country. Like many others, he initially worshipped Iomedae, but too many of her followers continued to make concessions to the lawful, heavy-handed rule of the Infernal Majestrix and her Hellknights. So he turned instead to the more radical philosophy of Milani, finding hope in her teachings on freedom, devotion, and fairness over the rigid rule of law even if it required rebellion for the greater good. Eventually, he devoted himself more fully to Milani's faith and secretly became a priest - an outcome he keeps hidden from his brothers and sisters in Egorian. Over the objections of his older brother and newly-reigning patriarch of the Henderthane family, Akorian continually passed on opportunities to join the Hellknights, including the various Orders in Westcrown. Instead, he feigned disinterest in wielding his family's arms in service to the crown even as he privately practiced them for an entirely different purpose - the hope of one day leading a revolution to drive out those who consort with devils. The Henderthane siblings mostly ignore him now, as they have other members of the family to carry on the proud Henderthane tradition of serving Cheliax. Instead, they trust Akorian with running the family business in Westcrown, arranging shipments, and receiving payments for the weapons they sell across the Inner Sea. Thankfully, these activities allow Akorian to keep his more ambitious goals hidden. Just a few months ago, Akorian happened upon a group of Hellknights pursuing a vagabond through the streets of Westcrown. He intervened by helping the man escape and hiding him within a monastery formerly devoted to Aroden and now occasionally used by fellow-worshippers of Milani. After conversing with the man, he learned of his sympathies toward a group of rebels hoping to forge a new future for Westcrown. Wishing to oppose the many injustices allowed by House Thrune, Akorian asked to join the rebels and has since provided support in whatever ways he can. He continues to wait for the day they decide to truly become rebels and take up arms against the government, making plans to provide both money and weapons smuggled from the Henderthane smithies to ensure their success. If his parents ever learn of such actions, he knows they will cast him out. But, in his heart, he already feels disconnected anyway...except for his sister, Pavanni. She's the only member of his family he still visits. And the only reason he hasn't cut ties with the Henderthane name on his own. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Spoiler:
Like many Chelish, Akorian's family claims at least some ancestry with the Azlanti. But in his case, he actually does bear some features in common with the now extinct culture, including slightly arched eyebrows and a more olive skin tone. Akorian stands 5-feet, 11-inches tall with dark brown hair and eyes. He wears a decorative breastplate crafted with his house insignia, but his pride and joy is the masterwork morningstar he wields in honor of Milani the Everbloom. Akorian dresses appropriately for any occasion, keeping both a noble's outfit for fitting in with Westcrown's upper crust...and more general attire for traveling about the city and supporting his friends. The latter always includes a heavy, dark cloak to hide his house insignia and shield against the elements. PERSONALITY Spoiler:
Akorian generally bides his time and applies Milani's doctrine to approach problems and conversation with others as patiently and wisely as possible. But when the time for action arrives, he proves swift and decisive, holding nothing back. He secretly hopes to make a difference in Westcrown and constantly seeks the good in others so he can encourage it throughout the city. He dislikes the heavy-handed dictates dispensed by the Hellknights and Chelish officials, longing for an uprising where the entire nation throws off the yoke of House Thrune. Until that time comes, Akorian has vowed to wage his own personal uprising in the hopes of inspiring others to seek a better future for themselves and their families instead. CONTACTS
Spoiler:
Pavanni Henderthane - Akorian's sister and a practicing wizardess of abjuration rather than the summoning rituals favored by most Chelaxians. The only member of Akorian's family he really trusts, he cares deeply about her. Akorian knows Pavanni's status and gender make her feel even more trapped within House Henderthane than himself. Occasionally, he sees her when he needs help with an arcane problem, bringing tales and information from beyond the ivory walls of their family's estate in trade.
Iardis Comby - A mercantile rogue and smuggler with no love for Westcrown's rigid laws, harsh punishments, and Hellknights. Akorian and Iardis occasionally use one another's connections to further their separate goals. Iardis cares only for money and the high-grade weapons Akorian provides from House Henderthane. In return, Iardis helps Akorian as an informant from within the seedy underworld of Westcrown. Lately, Akorian has pressed the man for more information about the original Council of Thieves, suspecting they may have returned to Westcrown to take advantage of the nightly curfews imposed by the Hellknights and Mayor Arvanxi. Armiger Pellius Ratarion - A friend from Akorian's youth. Pellius applied for the Hellknight Order of the Rack around the same time Akorian decided to join Milani's priesthood. They remain on good terms in most social outings, but Pellius knows full well Akorian disproves of the Hellknights' heavy-handed enforcement of the law. So far, Akorian has kept his more seditious thoughts about the Cheliax government hidden from his friend. But someday, he knows they'll likely run afoul of one another. In the meantime, he uses Pellius as a source of information on Hellknight activities. And because they both occasionally travel to Egorian to visit with family, they keep in touch to share the latest happenings in court, as well.
