Background In his youth, Matsui was a vibrant man. Small even compared to his kin, he made up for his lack of stature in physical presence. His talent with the blade led to his apprenticeship to a blademaster, but he found himself drawn to pursuits of loftier purposes. Though advised to pursue the way of the warrior, he instead chose the purer path of the holy man. He gave up his family name, shaved his head, and took up the study and meditation of the monastic existence. His fierce presence and frightening ability with a sword earned him the nick-name Akiyoshi, the little dragon, and the appellation stuck for the rest of his life. Rather than the life of a monk, he was destined to be a different kind of warrior. His abilities were noted before he had even settled in the monastery, and instead of joining the other monks in their training he was groomed to fight with the sword, as his training had began. He was taught to channel the might of his convictions, and fight for what was right, no matter the cost; a purpose he still strives to fulfill.
Akiyoshi had a long and illustrious career before retiring to meditate and gain peace in his elder years. However, he still craves some excitement, and from time to time is tempted to go on a short quest, each one being, of course, the last. Though he has no belongings of his own, he barrows a magnificent blade from the monastery, one retired there, given in honour by the emperor after hearing tales of the good works they had done for his people, and sets out on foot.
Akiyoshi is a potent, fierce man, but at all times calm, and a comforting presence. He has a sharp wit and an occasionally glib tongue, but he is modest and sincere, and entirely without pretext.
Appearance Akiyoshi is small, just over five feat tall, but with a well muscled, compact body. He is lithe and fit, and iron hard, despite his age. He appears to be in his later years, no matter that he is fit as any youth. He has kind eyes and an honest expression, and dark, knowing eyes that sparkle with vibrant life.
