Which is precisely why I'm confused. It goes both ways, it doesn't say it doesn't age beyond the maximum age category either :\ Beyond Venerable there's "Max Age" 70+2d20, if looking at it as a column, I'd say it's an age category, but it may not be, but either way the problem still remains. "You temporarily age the target, immediately advancing it to the next age category. The target immediately takes the age penalties to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution for its new age category, but does not gain the bonuses for that category. A creature whose age is unknown is treated as if the spell advances it to middle age. Ageless or immortal creatures are immune to this spell."
Since a now-venerable cleric is not ageless or immortal, they would still be subject to the spell as per RAW. So what happens when they are aged to the 'next age category' beyond the max age category? It's a necromancy spell which is why my assumption would be 'death' but I wanted to confirm with the community on that if there were any rules about this. EDIT:
I suppose if it really comes down to it, I could just say it would lead to death as a necromancy affect, and allow them the "Save or die" roll, but it may not come to that.
I was just wondering if it's possible if someone is playing an old character (we have a human cleric who is 67) and an enemy mage uses Sands of Time, obviously in THIS case they would be bumped up to Venerable age category, but my question is: Can Sands of Time be used to kill a player of old age (like if they were to be cast beyond Max Age category?
Okay well I don't know how to bake cookies but I would really appreciate some help here. My 1st D&D character ever was a human Neutral Evil sorcerer and was... kind of Gish-ish using armor spells and enchanting weapon to attack, etc but now that D&D and Pathfinder and all that is available... so much stuff!!!!!! :: The Idea :: To power-build a warrior/sorcerer designed for a 'standard' Pathfinder game (this means assuming DM is not using Spell Recharge or Spell Point systems, but might still allow D&D 3.5 feats and source books (this is "to be determined"). :: The Race ::
:: The Classes ::
Sorcerer (level 1) Imperious; human Bloodline
However the build I'm going for is mostly Sorcerer for several reasons... Dat Charisma and the character's silver tongue should be able to talk his way in (or out) of anything. Just part of his nature. Plus there's quite a few spells that I want him to use that depend on Charisma too *shrugs* So many good options for this game >.> lol
:: The Feats ::
Starting feat, human feat, and fighter feat: 1) Medium Armor Proficiency, 2) Battle Caster (allows spell casting without arcane spell failure of 1 armor category higher - must already be an armored caster), and 3) Improved Unarmed Strike (to remove AoOs when delivering touch attack spells) Sorcerer 2 (total 3): Spell Penetration Sorcerer 4: Craft Wonderous Item (what mage doesn't need this?! :D) Sorcerer 6: Greater Spell Penetration Sorcerer 8: Forge Ring Sorcerer 10: Heighten Spell Sorcerer 12: Maximize Spell Sorcerer 14: Quicken Spell Sorcerer 16: Spell Perfection (Enervation) Sorcerer 18: Spell Focus (Necromancy) Sorcerer 20: Extra Rings* * Prerequisites: Forge Ring(PH), Caster Level 12th
Normal: Without this feat, you can only wear and use two magic rings at one time. :: Ability Score Progression ::
Charisma -> Dexterity -> Intelligence -> Strength -> Wisdom -> Constitution. I have chosen this priority because Cha is the main stat of a Sorcerer and will be crucial to this build, Dex will help in defense where the armor may lack (even more so if we scrub the Medium armor Prof / Battle Caster feats for something else) plus could use for Weapon Finesse. Intelligence to help with skills (like crafting and knowledge checks). The reason I put Strength next is because of a Gish-like character we'll need an actual positive score if possible to dish out damage. Even if we go with Weapon Finesse with our Dex, not many campaigns houserule allowing that to add to damage bonuses too :\ So I'm just trying to play it safe here. And Wisdom of course mainly for will saves, Con as a dump stat (With Lichdom in mind as a possibility Charisma will be our health booster anyways, Con will be useless.. but until then at least a 10 Con would be good). Str 12(+1); Dex 16(+3); Con 10(+0); Int 12(+1); Wis 14(+2); Cha 18(+4) Naturally these are "hopeful" scores but let's pretend that's what we rolled. Of course +2 to Charisma from Human bonus making it Cha 20(+5). :: The Help :: Okay FINALLY after all that babbling and background, this is where I wanted to ask you, fellow Pathfinderinians, and D&D fanatics :D If you can help me (or at least point me in the right direction) to help maximize a human sorcerer gish character with the above information, even additional suggestions for feats, traits, maybe even other classes that might compliment this role. Please keep in mind I'm not looking for a front line fighter gish. Just one that could blast enemies from afar, debuff them (with that Spell Perfection + Maximized Enervation >D Muwahahahaha *coughs* sorry), and then hold his own if he got into a fight. Magic Weapon spell for instance or something like that. I have also looked into using a Transmutation Wizard (for the +1 to +5 enhancement bonus buffs to STR, DEX, or CON). I'm just... confused as ever lol. So yeah.. done rambling now. Free Internet Cookies ^_^
Ah guys thanks for the responses (except Seebs's response seemed kinda rude when the question has already been answered). - I do apologize if you weren't meaning to be rude, it just came off as that way from how I read it. @Da Brain: I appreciate the suggestion but I have no intention of going alchemist. Just pure wizard. Although I am always a confused individual I never know what I want lol (like I was looking up the other day about Fighter with the alternate class feature Armored Mage (Complete Arcane), so I could then progress in Sorcerer from then on and be able to cast in light armor and make him a kind of gish blaster or something I'm not even 100% sure yet. Like I said... I never know what I want lol but once again thank you guys for all your responses ^_^ <3
Dang, thought Ioun stones and headband would stack :\ I'd probably just go for the headband by itself then, and wouldn't bother aging, I'll be a lich before I get to the next age category lol. Didn't know about the Tome (specifically I know master_marshmellow above mentioned something of a tome), Hmmmmm... As for the cash - not sure yet Wheldrake, DM is letting me play my evil elf to become a lich (We're kind of in a "Good and Evil isn't as clear as black and white" type campaign. So most of our party is neutral... or evil in some way or form regarding classic alignment system). But this is just planning phase. ^_^ DM has some custom demonic races, even though he'd probably allow a succubus lol but I want my Elf ^_^ thanks. LordSynos, thanks for that thread! I'll definitely have to look it over for a few
Yeah so far I have in mind the Ioun Stones (guess +6 max now lol, maybe the other ones for +6 WIS and +6 CHA)... hmm +6 to Int, Wis, and Cha (Headband of Mental Superiority) +2 to Int, Wis, and Cha (lich) And that's about it (I was planning to see if I can go into Demilich-dom but that's probably not goinna happen in any campaign as rarely do they ever get to epic levels)
Okay to make the subject less confusing, I will try to break this down lol. A friend and I are having an argument on the rules of Ioun Stones, and their bonuses regarding stacking (he maybe right but I want to be SURE) because if I can get away with +18 INT... then by the gods I am damn well trying lol. Okay... now I know bonuses from the "Same source" cannot stack, but considering the following stones have different bonuses would they truly count as the "same source"? Crimson Sphere (+2 Intelligence bonus - can stack with other Crimson Spheres up to maximum of +6) ------ Scarlet and Blue Sphere (+2 Intelligence bonus*) - max +6 with paying the gold and having the Craft Wonderous Item feat, + spell, etc via Advanced Ioun Stones** * This stone has one skill associated with it, as a +2 headband of vast intelligence.
------ Magenta Prism (+2 to any one ability score) - max +6 via same method above Okay so MY argument as I said, is to try to get or craft a 3 socketed Wayfinder, get these 3 stones to get a total of +18 INT bonus item to attach to my armor (going for an armored lich - Elf Ranger(1)/Wizard(x)) My current feat plan (subject to change naturally):
Obviously if my DM allows the 3.x Eidetic Spellbook (sacrifice Scribe Scroll and Familiar (or Arcane Bond PF equivalent) to prepare and cast spells without a spellbook then obviously I'll be replacing the Spell Mastery feats with something else. and HIS argument (which maybe correct.. as I said that's why I'm asking the community ^_^) is that they're still of the same type (INT bonuses) and thus the max would still be +6, but I could gain the knowledge bonus from the scarlet and blue sphere stone but not additional INT bonus. Okay... so rule lawyers I'm pleading to you to straighten us out, who's right who's wrong... and can I still exploit the system to get the +18 INT anyways? lol |
