I'm also pleasantly surprised at the absolute deluge of female characters. I would like to give an estimate that 80% of the characters introduced in this Adventure Path are female, which is interesting, as it also includes named villains and enemies-- including... ** spoiler omitted ** The characters are charming, their backstories simple and filled with potential for a clever GM to expand to fit his group's needs.
(My one request since ages past-- a good-aligned handsome heterosexual male character-- has yet to make an appearance, however.)
I can tell that the new AP line is going to be much different than the previous one. I think that's a great thing. I'm excited to start in on the next book after this and see if it falls prey to the other Paizo pitfall-- these interesting NPCs being completely sidelined and ignored.
I know for a fact, as far back as Curse of the Crimson Throne we have ruggedly handsome men with good alignment that are either heterosexual or undefined:
Vencarlo Orisini
Marcus Endrin
Neolandus Kalepopolisthose three popped to mind immediately for me as that was my first AP that I ran.
Sandru Vhishni anyone? I think Paizo likes to keep any potential romantic interests bisexual until in a relationship.
