Adina looks to the side then looks straight into Janiven's face
"Well, something is better than nothing and things sound interesting enough to me. As for being from Cheliax, I actually originated in Taldor but have recently moved here so am not as familiar with the local threats or political issues as say everyone else who's lived here for a long period of time.
I don't plan on moving away from Cheliax any time soon, so if I can help out in some way to make Westcrown a safer place, I'm more than happy to do so."
Adina notices a look of doubt in Janiven's face
"What seems to be troubling you? I can tell something's up as you don't entirely seem up front with me right now. You can talk to me about it. I'm pretty easygoing."
"Well, I'm definitely interested as this place isn't going to pay for itself. I like the sound of helping out around the city and wouldn't mind adventure work that can cover my accommodation fees for as long as I reside here."
Adina looks away, thinking to herself for a moment.
"I'd really like a working role with solid hours, so I'd be very interested in hearing more about your meeting if you'd be so kind as to share more information with me, such as where it will be held, what your ideal goals are and what would be expected of me."
Adina tries to remember any information on local myths and tales of bizarre creatures, but simply just shrugs.
"In regard to Shadow Beasts, I've only been living here a month so far, so can't really say I know much about them other than the fact merchants in the Rego Pena district have told me to keep a watchful eye out and to avoid travelling alone at night. Shopkeepers have mentioned Shadow Beasts to me, but I can't really say I know that much about them."
"A bodyguard you say? That's partially the line of work I'm after myself. While staying here I'll need a steady income if I'm to afford this place. Shop work in any fashionable clothing store is also what I'm after, though I wouldn't say no to a little paid adventuring on the side if you know of any jobs going?"
Adina continues to talk as Janiven steps inside, leading her to the dining room as a more comfortable place to sit down and discuss things further.
"I'm sorry for your loss, but no, I haven't had any problems with Westcrown so far. The only thing which came as a shock to me was the death of that Grulios woman. It was so close to home that I wondered just how safe I would be in my own place, alone."
Am I even entirely safe now? Adina thought to herself.
"Anyway, you had something you wanted to say to me. Go ahead, I'm all ears."
Adina looks at Janiven and smiles in a friendly manner.
"While you're here, would you like a drink of water? I don't have alcohol and it's a little early in the day to be getting drunk"
Haha, because I've also had terrible sleep patterns and I know the time zone difference between where you and I live. It's not good waking up at 8pm though so you should kick that habit.
"A belated welcoming? I'm confused. How did you learn of my name and know where to find me?"
Adina frowns and seems a little confused, but goes on to say "Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet you. I haven't had a decent chat in quite some time, so please come in and make yourself at home. It sure beats talking on the doorstep for hours and I had a pretty big day out yesterday, so I'd feel more relaxed if we were able to sit down and have a chat, out of public earshot."
"Oh and excuse my large weapon. It's for protection really, but I don't go anywhere without it. It's been good to me so far."
*Adina looks at Janiven, noting her sword and bow*
"I'm guessing you're armed for the same reasons? I don't feel as though I should be too cautious around you, so perhaps you and I are pretty like-minded."
"I am, though you seem a little surprised. Shouldn't it be the other way around? You're banging on my door as if it's a matter of life and death and other than the occasional visit from my landlord, you're practically the only person to call since moving here. I'm just as surprised as you are, though probably for very different reasons."
"Anyway, what's the problem?" Adina says while smiling.
Adina awoke from her sleep. "It's been a while since I had such a peaceful dream.....is it time to get up already?" she says to herself.
She looks outside where the light of a new day shines brightly into her eyes.
*Knock, knock, knock* *Knock, knock, knock*
"Who can that be" she thinks to herself. "I haven't had visitors once since moving here. What could someone possibly want with me? I hope it's not another person coming to tell me that yet another local has been murdered. The death of the wife in house Grulios was quite enough for me", being so close to her home and all.
Adina shouts down the stairs, "I'll be with you in a minute. I just need to get ready".
*She changes from her nightwear and into her regal looking adventuring gear, grabbing her sword and hefting it up onto her right shoulder where she proceeds to walk downstairs to the front door*
*Adina opens the door* "Sorry for taking so long. I very rarely get visitors, so your presence is a little.......unexpected. What seems to be the problem?"
If you want to take the alternate trait, I'd have it apply to your hexes as well. Personally I think a +1 DC to sleep is pretty cool, but it's your decision.
I'll dig up information on all of the districts for you, and then start work on the first post. :)
Ah cool, we start today. :p
I'll be up for another 2 to 3 hours. My sleep pattern is still a bit out of sync, but I'm getting there. It's 6.05pm right now here and I woke up at 5.30am this morning haha. I'm pretty tired but want to hang around for a few hours to start on this. :)
I predict this game will go something along the lines of you posting at 5am my time and then me posting at 9 or 10am my time...which is 5am your time. :p
So I'll be picking up the story when you guys are asleep and you'll probably be picking up my story when I'm asleep, haha. Of course we'll have time to post at the same time too (such as now), but yea. :p
Smiley face overkills won't be in the PBP itself. ;)
Remember that it isn't just about the entire party getting knocked out via Sleep or Color Spray. If you get split from the group and incapacitated, then a Sleep spell may result in your untimely death.
Well, if that's the case, I think Jynerva should ride the Stage Coach/Wagon.
Things get dangerous when you fall asleep at the wheel. :p
Well, I'd personally go for the immunity as it just seems more convenient to me. +1 DC might make a little bit of a difference, but immunity to sleep spells is far better (in my opinion). Do what you feel most strongly about. :)
As for Offense and Defense, I'm going to be flat out offensive. I can't afford not to as my Civilised Barbarian who acts mostly level headed (like a fighter) is going to have such a low AC....34 if I'm lucky, otherwise 29 by end game. I just hope that things die before they get anywhere near killing me.
I'm excited as well! The AP isn't going to start with you guys in a group, so...I think I'll start tomorrow morning, even if Rainy doesn't post before then.
Ah, is there anything we need to know about the sectors we're living in beforehand? I know now of Tito's mothers death as the house is near Adina but no idea about shops and other places that I probably should know about.
I think the same applies for everyone else. Also, if Adina travels to Rego Pena for her fashionables, she'd have passed a few notable areas on the way. Though, it's still a mission to get there haha.
Rego Laina is the home to the Grulios house as well one of the others. It's home to the blacksmiths, and some of the other craftsmen.
Armouries too, so should I not be aware of the buildings in my district? As it stands, I know nothing of them, other than where I've decided I'm currently living. Which makes me think I should have some knowledge of you and your family.
That was a pretty good blind guess. I just assumed it was there as to me it seemed the red district was the most important one and Rego Laina has nobles living in it, but not royalty, so I thought it'd be below, though nothing told me which side. :p
Am I right in thinking Rego Laina is on the middle island, just below the red zone on the left hand side, with Rego Pena possibly being on the right? It's not labelled anywhere. :(
Heya, sorry for my lack of posting and getting to know my fellow players just yet. My comp is currently being ravaged by viruses, but I'm still able to post, and I'll do anything I can to do so in the event my comp completely poops out.
Anyway, I've finished my character sheet, but keep in mind I'm deathly tired, so it may have a few errors here or there, which I'd gladly be able to fix.
Also, I myself am something of an artist. While I'm certainly not as good as Acid, I pride myself on my ability to come up with interesting outfits and designs. If you want a little sketch with that robe or sword that's too out there for most artists to capture or come up with, I'd gladly oblige you, but if you want some fine-quality, avatar-worthy art, skip me and ask Acid. :3
I figured it would be a handy way to move through the city 'unseen' as long as we can get a driver. I also have a disguise kit stashed in the chest that's lashed to it.
I can use my amazing diplomatic skills to bribe someone for one? :p
I could put a rank into Ride at level 2 to get a bonus on it or so, but until then I guess anyone can drive it.
I played in a tabletop game once with a draconic woman called....Drakaria who could never take anything seriously, so when people went inside to scout around, I decided I'd look after the wagon...except my way of looking after it was to give it a test drive and even though I had no bonuses in Ride, I was running it around as fast as it could go and still succeeding my checks until I got it going so fast that the wheel fell off and the cart was destroyed.
The party came out and asked where it was. I didn't lie. I just simply told them "somewhere over there"....in pieces I might add.
Ah okay, I know that but I just figured her bonus would start low and work its way up as she levelled due to learning more and more about the place, the longer she lives there.
She'd definitely have knowledge of Oppara, but Westcrown not so much. She'd probably know the shop workers names where she shops for her fashion and obviously know her landlords name, but that's about it. Although as a player, I have no idea of their names lol.
Do you know where the Rego Laina district is on the map? I just want to know where her house is, as if it's on the middle island, just below the top and most important looking district, I already know where her house is and can draw a circle around it for you?
Hopefully we can start soon. Also, you'll be alright as Tark has a Council of Thieves campaign currently going on, so it'd be a good place for you to get reference from if you get stuck on anything.
I'm doing that with the Rise of the Runelords campaign I'm going to be running for people in about three weeks time.
Ah, it might be worth me putting a few ranks into it here and there then.
Do you mind if I swap out ride for Knowledge of Local? I don't intend to ride anything to be honest, so rather than having it in my unranked section, maybe I could move down my Knowledge of Nobility into that until I reach level 2, swap out ride for the Urban Barbarian's Knowledge of Local and then put Knowledge of Local up in my current skills used, just to be on the safe side.
Apart from that, the only thing I need to draw is a picture and then no more work for me other than writing. :p
When do you plan on starting this? I know we're waiting for one or two people to sort out their character sheets.
Yea I know, basically I've put them there with the class skill things ready, just so I know what I'll be putting ranks into when I reach level 2. All of my ranked skills are what I'll be using at level 1 and a majority of my unranked skills will be used upon reaching level 2.
So, just try to forget about that for now. It's a note to myself to say what I have class skills in, just so I don't have to double check it when it comes to putting ranks into them.
The only things I'll be using at level 1 are Perception, Knowledge of Nature (I may as well keep it then), Knowledge of Nobility, Diplomacy and Intimidate. With the exception of Sense Motive that I may use untrained at any given point.
I don't think I can put ranks into Sense Motive as it's an untrained skill. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I read that untrained skills only allow you to put in your base mod, unless upon putting one rank into it, it becomes trained? Which I guess would make sense. :/
CaptainCortez, I think your profile is set! I'm still looking over everyone elses. Should be done with that within the hour.
Haha, well good job I gave it one last check over. I just had to fix my Sense Motive score. :p
It was on +2 and although it's untrained (meaning I can't put ranks into it), I didn't include my Wisdom score at +1, so I've sorted it now and will have +3 on Sense Motive throughout the entire campaign. It can't be raised any higher as I have no way of changing it from untrained to trained.
Acid:
I'm not sure how much you're allowed to say, but will there be any point in having Knowledge of Nature if we're in the City over the course of the entire campaign?
Urban would give me Knowledge Local but due to her past, I kept it as Knowledge of Nature. However, with her living in Oppara for 14 years (and now having already lived in Westcrown for a month) I could switch it to knowledge of Local as she should know more about towns and cities than where she originally grew up. Besides, I'd still have survival as a nod to her past/origins.
I just had a thought about it and didn't think there would be any point focusing in Knowledge of Nature when I assume this whole campaign is set inside the City of Westcrown.
Also, I'll start working on a picture for Adina over the next day or two to see what I can come up with. She'll be wearing a tiara that looks like the Crown of Taldor, probably with a big red cape (like what you'd find on a king or queen) with lions fur lined around the collar. Her chest will have cleavage on show with a broken chain shirt fused into the material that flaunts her fashion sense and I might make it so she has high boots with a lower dress/skirt that cuts off to one side, being short on one side and long on the other. Gonna try and mix some ranger clothing into her design. :)
She'll also probably have the Taldorian symbol on her cape in gold coloured cotton, though her hair will be long at the back, then layered from short (at her forehead) running into long bangs.
Hopefully that's descriptive enough. Other info on how she looks and comes across is on her profile which I've left on show so you know what you're all seeing when you first meet her. :)
I looked through them when making my build, but the ones that will help me the most are all single player feats, so I won't be getting any teamwork feats.
That doesn't mean I won't work in a group once we get past the whole "deciding which characters our character will get on with" thing though.
I've got my level 20 loadout and will work towards it as much as I can. I will be hit A LOT, but hopefully I'll roll well enough to get enough life to make up for that fact. :)
