The Exchange

As the dusk gathers, in one of the Narrow House's narrow window-frames, a nondescript ragged bundle has become wedged in a corner, possibly a dead crow or a worn-out shawl. It twitches, exposing the glowing end of a cigar and leaking a puff of foul-smelling smoke.

From another fold, a hairy-backed little hand cups an orange gem with a bright linear flaw, casting momentary pink and green flecks of light on the halfling's dirty, whiskery face, as he rolls it from side to side, silently contemplating it in the dark.

The Exchange

"Right you are then."

Detect Thoughts:
Wonder what weird talking snakes drink? Not milk, I reckon

Acrosto leaves the back room. Something catches his attention to one side

The Exchange

"I'm Acrosto."

Detect Thoughts:
Acrosto Nuri

"Since I was a boy." If asked for more detail "Yeah, I had one or two with supper, but I'm good to work. Steady hands, that's me. I'll take that fancy pocketwatch apart to prove it if you like."

Detect Thoughts:
And good luck fixing it again

"Trying out for the Pathfinders."

Detect Thoughts:
They give you one of them wayfinders I hear. Wonder what those are

Has to think about that one "I reckon I can keep quiet if that's part of the job."

Detect Thoughts:
That'll pay extra

The Exchange

A skitter of movement between the tables marks the progress of a small creature that may have been spying in the windows or around the doorpost for some time. Nobody would mistake this scruffy and whiskery person for a child - more likely some sort of mud-dwelling vermin. His skin is grimy and several layers of ragged clothing have faded by repeated water-stains to a nameless greyish shade. A swamp-water smell wafts around him

"Oy, mister. I'll climb in that thing for yer. Very reas .. reasn .. I work cheap."

The Exchange

Say, have you heard? There's a weird elf can fix you up with what you need to make a few coin, so long as you got no human blood. Transportation, tips where to pinch or dig, alchemical gear or special orders, riddles about spells and the planes if you need such answered. Pays in southern gems he does. Look for a thin high house in the Wise Quarter, but don't go down past the first basement. There are rats.

Hurricane's limestone Townhouse wedges between two other buildings in three storeys above ground, three below, each with a single room off a narrow spiral stone stair. He has had the interiors stripped back and relined in austere and alien designs of dark stone. The rooms' nooks and angles hold more objects than at first it seems, including multiple tall, spindly furniture pieces of pale, strangely-angled metal.
