Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I did enjoy it while it lasted. I did learn some things about the game.

Absalon says, "As good a plan as others, but we just might let them see one of us. Then after attracting attention, the one jumps back into the hallway where they will be embraced with a dwarves hammers."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon says, "Oh yea, those creatures are called sinspawn. Ugly things aren't they?"

Then in his best wizardly aspect while whispering I tell them what I know.

Absalon then says, "I have the usual spells and some scrolls. I can put down a fog, or some grease, maybe attempt to put them to sleep. But I do not think that charms are going to work. However, our stalwart priest might have a skill or two with smiting embodiments of evil."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon squints and thinks really hard... What are those unattractive creatures?

I whisper to the group, "I will summon a monster to aid us, if you want or need it."

I doubt a sleep spell will effect them.

Liberty's Edge

Absalon moves closer to the where Siofra and Cily climb down. He whispers down to them, "Please do not destroy anything. There is much knowledge to be gleened from these old ruins."

Dungeoneering 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Absalon looks to the others and says, "I have been thinking, and I have come to the conclusion this religious place is one where fewer people walked out than in."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon looks down into the dark. He is not real keen on climbing, but understands the arcane is waiting down there.

Liberty's Edge

Absalon explains the above to everyone and then casts detect magic.

Liberty's Edge

Absalon moves until he gets a good look at the statue (but still keeps some distance from it), rubs his beard, hums to himself, and squints at the creature.

I explain to everyone that a harpy was present and you were trapped in its spell. We tried to kill it, but its ability to fly enabled it to fight another day.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon looks to the warriors and says, "Lead on valiant soldiers."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Well, that unpleasantness has been postponed. Let's move on.

Absalon points the wand at the harpy and launches another missle.

Absalon says, "Crossbows, Bah! Just wait, I will have an entire battery of spells. Then I will never carry such a vexing instrument."

I move to position myself at Q14.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon says, "Looks like I get to use the old crossbow, which is actually quite new."

Since the harpy is 25 feet up, and my folks are on the ground. I should have a good shot.

Henric, You will Absalon actually lecture when John writes up a spoiler for me.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon takes on a professorial tone and says, "The statue is of Qlippoth Lord Yamasoth, these are usually evil. And it appears the doors were sundered from the inside out, not the other way. Also, there is strong lingering magic about."

He then pulls his wand out of one of the many pockets in his robe, and looks around.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon looks at Henric, "Oh I am bringing a wide variety of spells and scrolls. I do enjoy a good explosion, almost as much as a nice ale and stew. I am unfortunately not adept at the healing of people with burn marks however. Eyebrows do grow back, but that is why we have an intrepid priest with us, and a paladin.

I have some scrolls of summoning I picked up to assist us. Nothing like pushing the odds to our side. I have also found that a finely cast "sleep" spell is extra handy at gaining the edge on a foe, especially if you need to run away.

Oh, would look at that statue. Quite a work really."

Cast Detect Magic

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon likes to have men at arms in front of him. He usually stays in the back for reasons of metallurgy.

Absalon says half to himself, "Let's follow the drag marks."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I turn to everyone and say,"The temple owes is maintenence to protective magic. Powerful forces keep it up while everything else has fallen. Any magic that effects stone will be useless here.

And did you know that in the Thassilonion Empire they ate with two pronged forks at banquets. However, the forks were not for food. They were for protection and possible assassination attempts. Or that might have been the Dinth Empire. I cannot remember exactly."

Liberty's Edge

I utter the words to cast detect magic.

I am giddy with excitement says Absalon. Ancient magical civilizations await!

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon mumbles, "This place was ruled by wizards. There will have to be something of importance."

Then to Halla, "I wonder if whatever is causing the disappearances are something that moved in after the fall of this civilization. Or did your work disturb something ancient and sinister."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon is only halfway paying attention. He keeps looking from Halla to the dig and back again. He is literally shaking in anticipation of the possibility of finding some ancient and arcane knowledge. He is mumbling to himself, and trying to remember something about this place.

Absalon eventually says, "There is something important here. I can feel it. It might be mundane knowledge, but it might not be. I am so glad you called us to help you clear out whatever is dangerous here."

We will have to ask Cily to kindly steel all the gems prior to anyone else seeing them and trust her kindness to part them out equally.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I used up a great portion of gold from my share to buy various scrolls, a light cross bow, and bolts.

"While drinking at a local tavern, I stumbled upon a bard who sang those songs warriors seem to like, you know, the kind where there are battles and beheadings. She seemed a bit on the bored side. So, I might have invited her along. I cannot say if did invite her or not. So, the operative word of 'might' is actually the case. The ale was good. I woke up in the kitchen. Apparently, my interloping was forgiven by the owner and his wife because I provided a quick start to the fires in the kitchen. I promised them I would come back and spend more money there."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

How serious are you about provisions? I have played where the GM almost counted calories to where if you bought them, he did not track them at all.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I tell everyone that there are no magic items in the room, and I follow along.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Hmmm... How many pouches. And again I cast detect magic in the bedroom.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Whoops, I messed up the quotes, just imagine quotation marks in there.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Addressing our heroic priest, Merklii...

[q]I was not particular about the gem. I think our stalwart warrior dwarf was liking it, but the money does buy the little ones and their mothers food and help sometimes, reagents, provisions for the group. However for our hard work here, I think a wee dram is in order. Does the sacrifice to Ore require gems? Or will he be happy with other items? I think you are a great addition to our adventuring group, but I think for the sake of harmony you should let us know what the god expects as payment for his aid."

By the way, do you have any of that excellent dwarven ale with you? I suppose not since you arrived much like I did.[/q]

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon again looks around and says the words to have magic reveal itself. Hoping that something interesting stands out.

I walk over to Ekkie with the gold chain that is left over from the necklace of fireballs. I say to her, "The magic is spent, but that is a gold chain, likely to fetch a fair price. It is for your service to our group."

Absalon grabs his share of cash, and thinks about new robes, meals, pints of ale, maybe some reagents.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I walk to where I can get a good shot at the boss man, I am guessing R8. If not, I will walk to where I can see Inoklar, and do the only thing I have left besides swing my staff.

Absalon is thinking, "If only we had stopped long enough, I might have been able to put this creature to sleep. But what done is done. Hey, I wonder what happened to the paladin?"

Magic Missle 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Merklii, I was hoping to do something once we got close enough to her to see her.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon will stay close to the healer, hoping Merklii's god is listening. This should not present a vision problem since Absalon is 6 foot tall.

If I can see Inokar the Big Guy...

Magic Missle 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

If I cannot see Inokar the Big Guy...

Absalon follows Merklii the Priest of Ore with his wand out, mumbling about impatience and warriors, the sweetheart of his youth, absent minded assistants, the need to buy more sealing wax...

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I will stay close to the priest following closely and waiting for my chance to do something useful.

I have very little I can do at the moment, sorry.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

I seem to have more trouble logging in with google than I do with Microsoft. I only fixed this by logging in with Internet Explorer. Go figure.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Level 2 Mage

Absalon mutters several vile curses over our current predicament.

He moves to Merklii and says, "My friend, we must rescue the little one. Our rogue-ish girl is in trouble. Here is a little help."

I cast Mage Armor on Merklii giving him a +4 armor bonus.

I point in the general direction of Cily, while I think hard on what this creature could be.

I whisper to Merklii, "I came here in a similar fashion as yourself. I have found that I am unsure what we are here for, but these people seem decent enough. So I lend my meager skills to aid these folks. However, I am about all out of magic this day, and feel the need for a pint, and a nap."
