I have a party that loves forcing house rules and the wizard started play with Disguise Self, so I've been brainstorming ways they can make my life difficult. It's unlikely that any of them will come up, but still.
First question first. Can figments dodge? That's a strange question at first glance. If a goblin (just to give an example) attacks an illusion (let's say it's of a gryphon because I like griffins, even if there are a thousand ways to spell the name) and his sword goes right through it, he knows it's an illusion. What if he doesn't hit it? How do you determine the AC of a wisp of absolutely nothing?
Next question: if the hypothetical hapless goblin from question 1 is being flanked by a PC and the imaginary griffon, does the PC get a flanking bonus? I imagine the bonus is because the flankee (not a word, but I don't care) has to keep turning around to keep an eye on both flankers, making it easy to stab them when their back is turned. If the goblin doesn't know that the gryphon is an illusion, he will look at it.
Strange question: what if a player is wearing a Hat of Disguise and it blows off in the wind? Is he safe for 10 minutes (Disguise Self has a duration of 10 min/level and the Hat of Disguise has a caster level of 1) or does the spell immediately expire?
Which leads to the next question: can glamers stack? Another hypothetical situation: an illusionist cast Disguise Self upon herself and followed it with Invisibility. She then wandered blithely into the area of an Invisibility Purge. She was no longer invisible. Does she look like her normal self, or like a Syrinx (what she disguised herself as because it's amazing that the thing counts as a humanoid)?
