Sigh, no Weapon 1's for Hayato.

My preferences of upgrades, in order of "YAY!" to "meh.":
Armor 1 (Champion's Do-Maru)
Ally 1 (Surgeon)
Item 1 (Weaponrack Backpack)
Item B (Belkzen Battle Standard)
Armor B (Fireproof O-Yoroi)

My power feat will be: "On your ([X] or a character at your location's) non-combat check against a monster, you may recharge a card to add 1d6 ([ ] 1d10)."

"Well done, my small friend!" Hayato exclaims, slapping Lem on the back as he walks up. "Now, what have you left for Hayato?"

Exploring to find a Flame Staff. Booooring.

Hayato finds a simple-looking magical staff. He tries to determine what it might be. Arcane 4: 1d4 ⇒ 2 However, he cannot, and tosses it aside.

He then pats Jinfu on the side. "Let's try to find something to fight, my trusty steed!"

Recharging Jinfu to explore again. A Cure spell.

Instead of finding a monster, Hayato finds a Divine spell scroll. Wisdom 6: 1d6 ⇒ 3

But, when he picks it up, it crumbles to dust.

He then waits for the shortlings to catch up.

Int 5: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Unfortunately he can't make heads or tails of the thing, so he signs and decides to wait for Mogmurch to come do it.

Hayato, having no interest in alchemical items, is loathe to open the door to the laboratory, as he assumes something will quickly blow up on him. Especially once Mogmurch gets here. So, perhaps it might be good to try to get as much done as possible before that happens. Move to Alchemical Laboratory

He opens the door to the Lab and sees an Aspis Dog right away! Snarling at the man, Hayato shouts at him "You! Give up, or face my wrath!" He poses in his beautiful O-Yoroi armor, showing his strength and fashion sense at the same time. Revealing O-Yoroi to add 3 to my non-combat check.
Diplomacy 8: 1d6 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 3 = 8

He manages to convince the Aspis Agent to make an about-face with his life, and the agent is so thankful for the life-altering advice that he offers Hayato an alchemical item to harden his weapon. Examining and encountering Bladeguard.

Intelligence 6: 1d6 ⇒ 5 However, as mentioned before, he's not very interested in alchemical stuff, and tells the man to keep it and use it wisely himself. Banishing Bladeguard.

Finally, Hayato asks his Emissary to open the next door, ready for battle. Discarding Emissary to explore again, finding Aspis Analysis.

To his surprise, he finds a piece of paper on a table. He wracks his brain to try to determine what it is.
I don't see anything in anyone's hand to help with this, and I'm very unlikely to make the close check anyway, so I'm just going to roll it flat.
Wisdom 5: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Surprisingly, he is able to decipher the script and determine that it is a Fiery Glare spell. Though he knows the spell, when he tries to pick up the paper it crumbles in his hands. No way to make the acquire check.

Then, he sees a surprising thing, a powerful explosive that could destroy this silly place in one fell swoop, channeling his new friend Mogmurch. He picks up the explosive and studies it for a moment.
I need to make an Intelligence 5 check to close the location, in which case we would win! Does anyone have anything to aid me on this? I think the answer is no, unfortunately, but I wanted to check.

Hayato looks up from his meditations to see Meligaster sulking again, and shakes his head. "Enjoy the beauty around us, my small friend. Heed not your jealousy of your brother."

He then pokes around the vegetation looking for some berries to eat or something of that nature. Instead, he finds a small poisonous mammal, known as a Dhabba.
Survival 6: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 The little creature hops up on Hayato's arm and purrs. "I think I shall name you 'Sting'. Why don't you sniff around there and see what you find?"

Hayato points at the underbrush again, and the little dhabba happily jumps down and starts rooting around. Discarding Dhabba to explore.
The little dhabba comes bursting back out of the brush, a fearsome hound chasing it. Death hound! Using my Naginata on it. Also displaying my Banner.
Combat 7/10: 1d10 + 3 + 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (5, 4) + 1 = 18 Dropping the 4, I succeed.
Combat 7/10: 1d10 + 3 + 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (2, 6) + 1 = 16 Dropping the 2, I succeed.

Hayato, with two quick, fluid motions, decapitates both heads of the death hound, leaving it in a twitching heap. "Serves you right, you beast. Chasing poor Sting... the nerve."

Hayato then sits down and pets Sting.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"From what I understand, my friend, the two of you hardly knew your mother, so I don't know if that is a fair statement. Is it really necessary for you to start an argument with no merit?"

Hayato leaves the two brothers to bicker, heading to the Oasis. He figures, once he is done dispatching any Aspis dogs lurking around, he may be able to take a short rest, perhaps even bathe.
However, upon arrival he finds some roiling sand that turns into an almost-humanoid shape. Exploring Oasis, finding Sand Creeper. It's immune to my weapons, so I'll punch it. I still get my 1d6 for it being my first combat of the turn.
Combat 9: 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (2) = 13 He quickly dispatches the sandy creature with a solid punch to the head, and its dissipates into simple sand once more.

He then jumps on Jinfu and heads deeper into the shadows of the trees surrounding the Oasis. Recharging Jinfu to explore. Find an Aspis Analysis. Using my Blessing of the Samurai for an extra die.
Wisdom 5: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (4) = 6 Partially hidden under a palm leaf, Hayato spies a document. He jumps down from Jinfu, who runs ahead to drink from the Oasis, and Hayato peers at the page. It seems to be some sort of magic spell. First random spell is Acid Jet. Not worth throwing extra resources at.
Wisdom 6: 1d6 ⇒ 2 He tries to determine what the spell says, but can't make heads or tails of it, and decides to leave it there for his more spellcasting-focused friends.

Unfortunately, I have no Liquid or Divine cards for the close, so I can't close the location.

Hayato sits down next to the water where Jinfu is having a long drink, and meditates for a few moments.

With Meligaster at his location now, Hayato will work hard to prove his skills.
He enters a new room in the Plaza. Exploring to find a Poison Spiked Pit Trap. Yikes! Requesting a Blessing of the Gods from Lem. I think I might also need the power of Lem's Fox for the extra 1d4.
Wisdom 9: 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (6) + (4) + (2) = 12

Hayato notices the trap and points it out to Meligaster so that he doesn't fall in either.

He then continues on. Free explore from defeating the trap. Great, another trap.
Dexterity 4: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Luckily he notices the next trap as well, sliding past them with little trouble.

With that, Hayato sits and meditates once more.

Hayato, in his stoic wisdom, continues searching around the Dilapidated Plaza. His patience pays off, as he spies an Aspis dog lurking around.
Exploring to find an Aspis Agent. I will try to convince him to surrender.

"You, Aspis Dog. I see you, skulking like a snake. You are no match for me. Surrender now, and spare yourself a dishonorable death." Recharging my Nine-Ring Sword to add 1d6 using my character power. Also requesting Meligaster's Blessing.
Diplomacy 8: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (5) + (5) = 15 The Aspis agent sees Hayato's honor and strength, and decides to live.

Per Aspis Agent's power, examining the next card. Ghost Scorpion (TRIGGER).

As the agent walks away, Hayato sees him toss something backwards, which lands on Hayato's armor. It's a scorpion! It stings him through a vulnerable part of his armor. 1 Poison damage, in the form of my Riding Horse.
Combat 9: 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (6) + (4) = 16 He quickly smashes the vermin with the blunt side of his weapon.

Feeling the effects of the poison, Hayato sits for a few moments to rest.

Before leaving for the next mission, Hayato decides to visit the marketplace. He walks up to a large, expansive tent full of mundane and cheap items. He decides to give up his heavy, bulky Portable Ram in exchange for the services of a dwarven cleric. Trading Portable Ram for Pahmet Clansman.

He then stops by a much smaller stand, displaying only a few weapons, though a few are of higher quality. Also visiting Smiths of Wati.

Hayato finds himself in the middle of a storm, seemingly summoned by Lem. electricity: 1d4 ⇒ 4

However, the storm dissipates before any harm comes to him. :-D

He then tosses the Immolate spell toward Lem, then jumps on Jinfu and hustles over to catch up with the gnoll that just ran toward the nearby Chasm. In his haste, he forgets that Lem's legs are short, and leaves him in the dust. Handing Lem the Immolate spell, then moving over to the Windswept Chasm and exploring.

When Hayato arrives at the Chasm, he sees the gnoll, seemingly trying to run and warn his chief of Hayato's approach. However, Jinfu is faster than the poor gnoll, and Hayato catches up quickly.
Recharging my Heavy Wooden Shield to add 1d6 to my Wisdom check.

Wisdom 5: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (3) = 8 As he races toward the gnoll, it fires an arrow at him, but Hayato expects it and shifts in the saddle out of the way. He then swings his Naginata.

Combat 10: 1d10 + 2 + 2d8 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (7, 1) = 16 Per the Naginata's power, dropping the 1 to give a total of 15. The gnoll's head goes rolling, and Hayato charges forward, knowing that the chieftan is nearby.

He finds said chieftan just around a corner. He leaps from Jinfu, swinging his naginata once more. As he is flying through the air, a small bomb flies out of a hidden pocket of rock, splashing across the chieftan and catching some of his hair on fire. Recharging Jinfu to explore. Requesting that Mogmurch discard a card to add 1d6 and the Fire trait to my combat check. Discarding my Naginata on the final check against the villain!
Combat 11: 1d10 + 2 + 2d8 + 2d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 2 + (2, 8) + (4, 3) + (4) = 32 Per the Naginata's power, I drop the 2, and end up with 30. WE WIN!

With the chieftan thoroughly distracted, Hayato's naginata strikes true once more, sending the chieftan's head flying, and it lands right next to Meligaster's feet. The creature really never had a chance, and Hayato almost wishes he had challenged it to single combat instead, but there was little time. On to the next mission!

On Lem's turn, putting Jinfu on top of my deck to reduce his damage.

Hayato smiles at Lem's musical abilities. "My small friend, thank you for your help. Perhaps when we are finished this mission, we can play together."

He then steps forward, leaving Jinfu to guard Lem for the moment, and steps right on a piece of paper. Exploring to find an Immolate spell.
Wisdom 5: 1d6 ⇒ 6 He picks the scroll up, and is surprised to understand, at least generally, that it is a spell that creates fire. "My friend Lem, you may like this. I will hold on to it for you for a moment," he calls back to Lem.

Finding nothing else on this side of the dune, he waits for Lem to catch up.

Will plan to give Lem the Immolate spell at the start of my next turn. Discarding my Wakizashi at the end of my turn to make room for Jinfu.

Hayato rolls his eyes once more at the halfling-sized screams coming from the nearby areas. He follows the screams to the Shifting Dunes. "My small friend, what on Golarion is happening over here?"

He looks around, seeing an elderly cleric sniffing around for no real reason. "My lady, are you lost? You seem to be in the middle of the desert." Aunty is actually a pretty nice ally because of her ability to examine the top three cards then explore, so I'm going to request Lem to recharge a card and display his flute to add 2d4 to my check. At the end of my turn, that flute will be recharged. Diplomacy 8: 1d6 + 1 + 1d4 + 2d4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (2) + (1, 1) = 9

The elderly lady decides that Hayato must know where he's going, so she agrees to go along with him. She uses her surprisingly keen eyes to look ahead. Discarding her to look at the top 3 cards, then possibly explore. Porcupine, Hurtling Tiles Trap, Enchanter (who has the Jerk trait, obvi). I'll go ahead and explore the Porcupine.

He sees a spiky creature hanging out in the sand for some reason, but scares it away accidentally.
Survival 7: 1d6 + 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (3) = 5

Then, he picks little Lem up and dusts him off. At the end of my turn, I'll recharge my Emissary to allow Lem to draw a card.

Hayato, still ignoring all the small screams of excitement and dismay coming from other nearby areas, mounts his trusty Jinfu and sets out to explore the Sulfur Pits. Exploring card 1 of Sulfur Pits... Bonecrusher Ambusher henchman!

Seeing a gnoll lurking nearby, Hayato sets his banner to show it proudly and calls out a challenge to him. "Creature, you are not hidden from my eyes! Come out and fight like one with honor!" Displaying my Banner when I encounter the card. Adds +1 to all combat checks at any location.

The gnoll, having no honor, steps out of its hiding place and fires an arrow at Hayato.
Wisdom/Perception 5: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Hayato does not see the arrow coming. damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 The arrow hits him in the shoulder, but it pinks off of his armor. Recharging O-Yoroi armor to reduce that damage to 0.

Hayato then charges the gnoll, his wakizashi glinting in the sunlight.
Combat 10: 1d10 + 2 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (3) + (3) + 1 = 11 Extra 1d6 is from this being my first exploration of the turn, thanks to my first character power. +1 is from the displayed Banner. His swing is a bit wide, but it still catches the gnoll on its neck, slicing a fatal wound. The gnoll falls to the ground.

Seeing the Sulfur Pits' champion vanquished, Hayato attempts to block the entrance to the area and plans to move on to another place. His trusty mount is quick enough to jump out of the way of a jet of acid that shoots out of the ground, saving him some pain.
Taking 1 Acid damage to close the Sulfur Pits, and I put Jinfu on top of my deck to reduce that 1 damage to 0.

Hayato and his trusty steed ride off toward where he has heard his small allies yelling and generally causing a ruckus.

Turn over. :)

Hayato, who has been meditating for a few moments, hears a bunch of yelling and some sort of sneeze-splosion from the direction that his goblin friend headed. He assumes that the goblin has blown something up, shrugs, and goes back to calming himself in preparation for battle. His trusty horse, Jinfu, prances a bit as he smells some strange smells wafting around, but stays silent as a good combat-trained mount should.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

From his vantage point over at the Sulfur Pits, Hayato can hear the two halfling brothers arguing over nothing, as usual. He sighs. "If the two of them would spend as much time planning as they do fighting, we'd be done here already," he mutters to himself.

Hayato's horse buddy, Jinfu, can reduce damage to any character at his location by 1, so it might make sense for him to start at the Sulfur Pits, since he could ignore that Acid damage for the closing check.

We don't have any traders yet, so I'll go ahead and post my starting hand:
