Exact same here, ordered mine on Oct 2 and nothing, even emailed twice and nothing. This IS a bit excessive Paizo, sale or not.

33 here, started playing in 82'. Red Box set for me as well. One of my friends had it. I played a thief, got killed by green slime if I recall correctly. I didn't get serious about the game until the early 90's though. Once my boys are old enough I will teach them to play as well. My groups age average is 35.

Jerimiah my good man,
I begin to wonder about the people I find myself with here. Both the gnome sorceress and "Chains" our mysterious fighter have disapeared and reappeared with us in the wilderness. Both claim to have been abducted by a mysterious figure with a half black and half white face. Darius and his companions seem to have some knowledge of this person, as well as the leader of the giants. This causes me concern, I may have to delve deeper into this mystery. We have also been joined by a cleric of Tyr named Brax. He seems to be a very stalwart and worthy companion.

Thus far we have been encountering quite a few giants, ogres, ettins, trolls, and minotaurs on our way to the Hill. It appears this Janus character is the chief of this rather disparate tribe of creatures. But then this Janus is being directed by the one my companions are familiar with, curious indeed. Also, Zeph, the halfling scout, seems incapable of sneakery. He has thus far needed me to pull him out of the fire at least twice now. To be fair though he is a stinky little fellow and keeps getting sniffed out by bears and the like. So he may be more effective against creatures with a less developed olfactory sense. Now the mage Kelvinir seems to have a death wish, as he keeps charging giants and getting smacked unconcious. I also worry that his precision with fireballs may be lacking, as he burned Zeph a little in one of our fights with some ettins. We will soon be scouting the hill, so when I write you next I will let you know how we fair.

As always keep an eye on Sasha, and I may try to contact Rtuga and see if he has any insight to the foes I face. Take care,
Andark

Jerimiah, my good man,
A quick note from on the road, we were in the process of moving some of my new "Employers" troops when they came under attack by a band of Ogres. The Ogres seem to have used unusual stealth and possibly magic to setup an ambush and caused much havoc before the troops dispatched them. Upon hearing they were attacked we rode out to check on the men.

Well, upon arrival we saw that our small army was made much smaller, about a third of the men were dead and another third wounded. Darius's "army" had dropped from around 200 men to about 120. But we did find a trail heading to the NE of the road into the wilderness. We provisioned ourselves from one of our road Watchtowers and again rode out into danger.

After a few days riding we found ourselves ambushed by 2 ogres and 2 ettins. I rallied the men immediatley. Kelvinir showed his mettle by dropping a fireball on the group of giants and then engageing them from horseback, our little halfling disappeared in the tall grass. Darius jumped from his horse and nearly slew an ogre with one blow, he is a mighty fighter. The mysterious chain fighter and I dispatched an ogre and we managed to capture an ettin. The dull creature gave us little info, but he did give us a destination, a sight of an ancient battle called simply "The Hill". Apparently this lone small mountain is riddled with caves, and that is where this tribe of giants that are harassing us have originated from.

I enjoyed your last letter, glad to hear that Sasha is learning a little in the way of wizardry...I hope someday I can tell her I am her father. Watch your back amongst that den of scoundrels you call your battalion and take care Jeremiah.

From the road,
Andark

Jerimiah,

Hail my friend, I write you with greetings and hopefully good tidings. My "quest" for more purposefull existance has taken an odd turn these past few days. As you know I was on my way to seek service with this Darius fellow. He has been making claims to be bettering Grubville and I wanted to check on him for myself. I quizzed some of the folks in town, and they mostly seemed to have a positive view of him, so that allowed me to feel that their may be some promise to him.

I travelled out with a group of workers, warriors, and merchants that were seeking work with Darius and his cronies. What an undisciplined lot they were! I orginized them for protection and sent scouts ahead and a rearguard behind. Darius has setup several towers to protect the trade road between his keep and Grubville, but the ride still proved to be quite dangerous. On our 4th day in my advanced scout came back and reported one of the towers was under attack by I large creature made of earth and stone. I gathered a small group of men, as well as a female gnome named Ellywick and a formidable looking man wielding a many spiked chain that seemed to move of it's own accord at times. As we approached the tower I saw it was indeed being attacked by a very large creature, it looked like an unfinished statue to me. The fowl thing had laid waste to several good men-at-arms and was proceeding to tear down the tower. I set up a line of archers and the chain warrior and myself engaged the foe. I immediately used my Grease spell, but to no avail. The creature mearely melded into the earth as if it had roots. My foolhary companion charged in and attacked with that wicked chain of his, which seemed to get its attention. It quickly pummeled him, nearly bringing him low. Just then Ellywick proved her worth when she cast a spell that caused the creature to be engulfed in strange humming chains. I healed my cohort and we quickly dispatched the creature. I then set about healing the men-at-arms that had been wounded. But sadly, my wand could do nothing for the three that had already passed on. A rider was sent to summon Darius so I staid and waited to seek council with him. I also found quite a handfull of gems amongst the rubble of the dead creature.

A day later Darius and his friends arrived. He seems an alright fellow, if a bit of a dreamer. His "advisors" are almost useless. Zyphemia, a shifty halfling, seems to be his intel man. I trust him nearly as much as I trusted Cpl. Littleton, that old card shark! And the elf, Kelviner, seems to know of things arcane but appears to be almost insane. He did identify the creature we fought as a sort of elemental force. I gave my gems to Darius to give to the fallen soldiers families. I will have to setup a widows fund for these stout fellows.

Well, I must get on with my "soldiering". I hope this venture is worth my while. Please keep an eye on Sasha, let me know if she ever wants or needs for anything.
Your continued friendship honors me.
Andark

This is where I will be keeping a little log of the campaign I play in. It is going to take the form of letters to my friend Jeremiah.

First, some campaign background as written by our DM.

Title: Thy Will Be Done.

Brief: The world started with two unknowing elves (one half-elf) attending the reading of a will in a small town called Grubville. They turned out not to be the children of the deceased but rather the offspring of the Dark One. Many actors played a part in their story. Let's name a few, Lord Dorn, Rikter, Lucie, Darius, Grendle, Kelvinir..... Some are gone some are hidden. But now a new era has dawned.

Grubville has grown a bit in recent years. There is a lot of activity since the Old Monastery to the north has been recovered and rebuilt into a fortress by Darius. The road he has built from monastery to Grubville is well patrolled and very good for commerce. Grubville is still under the protection of Hightide, a city state to the south on the coast. But many peoples have travelled through Grubville since the call for workers and men-at-arms came from the monastery. Darkwater (a city state to the northeast) has also seen a surge of people pass through it on their way to work at the monastery.

Though the time seems to be one of prosperity and peace, many rumors of beasts and wild things are more commonplace. Even the lastest arrivals of halforcs from the wastelands of the west have been a cause of concern. Some say that theft and murder are more common. Some blame the monastery for bringing such vermin. Others say the monastery is the best detterent to such filth. But all say that Grubville has never seen such wealth being poured into it since the High Wars over a hundred years ago. Only time will tell the story true.

and the info on my Character: Andark Reardon

As a boy in Grubville Andark, Andy to his friends, excelled in the classes his teachers taught about history and warfare. He found also that he had a talent for the tall tail, the oratory presentation, and diplomatic discussion. So once he came of age he travelled to the city state of Darkwater and enrolled in the military acadamy there.

Andy served as a scout, spy, diplomat, and tactician for a small group of goverment sponsored specialists/commandoes. He helped root out a few evil cults, aided in stopping a were-rat incursion in the sewers, and acted as a strike force commander on several military campaigns. He has served with distinction and been awarded several medals, and is known in his unit as someone who can really inspire his fellow soldiers.

But Andy does not feel inspired himself, he disagrees with many of the political and social decisions that the goverment of Darkwater has made. His time with their military is at an end, he has chosen to resign his commission and seek a better purpose in life. Returning home to Grubville he sees that the rumors of the monastary being rebuilt are true, so he decides to go and see who this "Darius" is and see if maybe he is a more worthwile ally then the goverment of Darkwater....

Secret:

Andark has a 3 year old Illegitimate daughter in Darkwater, the result of an affair with a minor nobles wife. The nobles name is Baron Mortinan, his wife is Yolanda Morinan. The Baron suspects, but does not know, that his daughter Sasha is not his blood daughter. Andark wants to tell him, but Yolandda forbade him to. Andark still loves Yolanda, and longs to see his Daughter. He has alot of animosity towards the Baron, as he was forced to serve under him during a particularly hard military campaign. Andark saw alot of friends die because of the Baron's ego and inability to lead.

Contacts:

Sgt. 3rd Class, Light Infantry, Jerimiah Willam: Jeremiah served as Andarks Sgt-at-arms and 2nd in command of the last unit he was in charge of. Jerimiah is a Male Human, medium height and build, courageous to a fault, and Andarks best friend. He still serves in Darkwaters military, and they correspond regularly.

Jon and Lisa Reardon: Andarks parents are well respected Tailors in Grubville, not rich by any means, but they own their own shop, and live above it. They are very proud of Andark

Rutga Mirto: Rutga is a goblin mystic and hedge wizard, Andark saved his life from some were-rats, and now Rutga has a habit of popping up and "helping" Andark, at all the worst times.

"And yet you did just that, from issue #12 until Wil Save showed up."

Yeah, but I have poor impulse control.

"Are you trying to say that Wil Save is responsible for increased sales?"

Nope, just saying it can't blow so bad as to be practically running readers off, as some have implied.

But in all honesty I think it helps, a magazine cannot exist without garnering new readers. I know the argument goes that it is for DM's so everything should be useful to DM's, blah blah blah. Unfortunately I just don't see a magazine that focuses like that being terribly succesfull, I feel that Wil Save articles apply to the life of a DM and not to the game. Alot of the frustrations and problems scheduling a game because of real world problems I can relate to. His stories involving general game geekiness, I can relate to. A magazine for DM's does not mean it has to be all game material, as a general rule we DM's are a little more dedicated to "geekiness" than just players. So the focus of hisarticles I can understand, whether it is about D&D or another game system. And I think that is the reason it is in the magazine, to give us stories to relate too. I would be less likely to buy a magazine with absolutely nothing in it but modules, maps, and critical threats. I for one enjoy a little variety.

"I'm a long time D&D player who has read and purchased DUNGEON since its first issue. I DM 99.9% of the time and play D&D almost exclusevly."
Same here, except I got on the dungeon train around issue 12.

"I don't care about other people's personal lives and don't want that insite."
And that is your opinion, and does not represent mine, despite me being in the core audience for Dungeon.

"It is like Marmaduke bad."
Poor Marmaduke...I hate that dog.

"1. Identify his audience "

Ummmm, are you saying you represent, as a whole, that audience? I think I have seen more individuals post support of the column, and a vocal few post negatives about the column. So that would indicate that he has identified the audience, as it would seem this thread and increased sales verifies. I think maybe the people who dislike Wil Save are in the minority, not the other way around.

Ok, so I have perused this thread occasionally since it started. Now, I can understand not liking Wil Save, I don't like some things that end up in the magazine too. But their are a few people who REALLY don't like it and some that have even not bought it because of it. Not bought the magazine because of 1 page....1 page? That is just dumb. Sorry, but it is. I never read Downer, it contributes nothing to my games, and it is 2!! PAGES!! How do I justify such a travesty! 2 whole pages that I don't like, whatever will I do...whoa is me, how shall I ever get through the day?/end sarcasm/
The argument that it does not contribute to your game is a lame one, neither does Mt. Zogonia, or the ads for that matter. I personally like Wil Save, and if it brings more people to the magazine, and by extension to our game tables, than more power to Wil. I can just about guarantee, and I say this only because Erik pretty much confirmed it, that Wil brings more readers than he actually chases away. That is good business, and good business is good for Dungeon Magazine, as bad business would quickly see the end of our beloved Dungeon. And nobody here wants that.

Greg V., I am "glad" to see that it is not just me in OKC that has not received their Dungeon. Wonder why it takes so long for us?

post master general says:

"Arrrr. It means I get to talk like a pirate this weekend, until I get a chance to clarify things with the editorial staff on Monday. Arrrr.

Until then, just write the best dang submissions you can, and don't worry about style sheets. Great content wins out over pretty formatting anyway. :-)"

Arrr, sounds good Matey..and thanks

What exactly does it mean when it says "Write your submission using the styles embedded in this document"? It then references files, but when I go to the Document tab and then to file attachements there is nothing attached. How do we access these "embedded" files? Forgive my ignorance on this subject, I only read .pdf's, don't create or use them much.

Are the new guidelines up? and if so, where can i find them?

no such thing too many adventures. I work full time, run 2 games and have a 5 year old son and a social life. I use Dungeon and printed adventures, just tweak them for my campaign. I would go insane without pre-printed stuff, and I am going back to school soon so they will be even more important. I say keep up the good work

love the new dungeon, especially the low-, mid-, high-level adventure in each magazine. Plus I am a fan of Wil Wheatons website so like that he has a regular article in the mag
