Are PbP and other online games here considered fully sanctioned or official Pathfinder Society games?

Interested if I can play an Azlanti. :D

Hello everyone!
I didn't see an "introduction" forum so i figured I would post here because, to be frank, I'm severely confused about the Pathfinder Society games and how they work. I have read the FAQ and various other posts and excerpts regarding them, but I still find myself scratching my head.

So far as I understand it, the Pathfinder Society is basically a big official group of gamers playing Pathfinder who go in to sanctioned games, play their character and have their sheet kept in a database of sorts. is that right?

Now, on to specific questions..

1. So how does it work?
2. Do I just find a game in my area, roll out a sheet and show up?
3. How do they keep track of my stuff?
4. What are the benefits and/or rewards for getting a fully official character sheet?
5. Where do I start?

Basically, I need a third-grader's explanation for how this all works, and where and how to get started. I really would love to play and there's a game coming to my area around my birthday so I'd love to play in it.

Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this is redundant for y'all.
