December Update— Pregens, PaizoCon, Stars, Spotlights and Conventions!

Thursday, December 5, 2019

As the year draws to a close, I’m at one final convention – PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia. If you're attending, be sure to stop by the Paizo Booth (#2646) or the Organzied Play Room (#120-B) and say hi!

After this, a few weeks of rest...well, at least a few weeks of no travel. We’ve got plenty of plans to implement and tasks to complete during December. To give our team some time to relax over the holidays, and to ensure our players have games to play, we are releasing our December scenarios on the 18th of the month. The blog previews are scheduled for December 11th, so join us next week to take a peek at what is coming up!.

Some of you may have seen some updates regarding pregenerated characters for Pathfinder Society (2nd edition) and Starfinder Society For Pathfinder, we’ve corrected some errors, changed weight/carrying capacity, and added third level versions of a limited number of pregens, so that new players can participate in the first Level 3-6 scenario that released the end of November. Starfinder Society has three new pregens for the new classes in the Character Operations Manual. All of these are Society legal for play. We hope you enjoy!

In last Tuesday’s blog, we announced PaizoCon 2020 Guests of Honor (yay Kate and Damien!) and opened ticket sales. In related news, the Organized Play Foundation’s general call for volunteers to GM or help with HQ opens on Thursday, December 5th at 0800 am. More information is available on the OPF website.

Campaign Coins

We awarded no coins during the past month.

Stars

One GM reached their 5th star in December. We still have a few weeks in 2019 for those trying to earn their 5th star before the year’s end. Doing so indicates a commitment to organized play, as to achieve this milestone, GMs must run 150 games, of which at least 50 must be unique scenarios and 10 special scenarios, as well as run a game for a venture-captain. A conservative estimate of time needed to reach 5-stars is 650 hours!

Congratulations to Willis Sloat on achieving his 5th star!

Novas & Glyphs

We’ve received a few evaluations, so hopefully we will see a few 5-nova GMs soon! While we wait for the online nova evaluation tool, which is part of a greater tools overhaul, we’ve made an online form for logging evaluation games. Venture-Captains, please use this form to submit evaluations.

Quite a few of our community earned their first glyph this month! Congrats to everyone running events and qualifying for their glyphs. Huzzah and thank you.

Convention Listing

While only a few conventions remain in the 2019 convention season, we’ve already got a few listed for 2020, and the list grows daily! You can play in Society games at any of the conventions listed below! The list includes all submissions as of 1 October. If you see one missing, ping the organizer and have them submit a request for support or have them email me at organizedplay@paizo.com to discuss their event. All of the conventions on the list maintain some type of web presence, be it website, social media page, or Warhorn listing, so if you are interested in attending in either capacity, check out their websites or contact the local venture-officer for more information!

Organized Play Staff Travel

While we aren’t ready to announce our full year of convention travel quite yet, we can confirm a few appearances during first quarter 2020. For those proactive organizers out there, please note the deadline to request Paizo staff attendance is 1 June 2020. Organizers may email your interest to organizedplay@paizo.com. Note: staff do not attend conventions that conflict with Paizo-sponsored shows.

So... pregens for classes from the Character Operations Manual are legal for play even though the COM is not yet listed on Additional Resources?

Correct. They're legal.

I'm still working to get the full COM rules added to the Additional Resources. I'm actually going to be in Seattle next week, so I'll be spending some time with the SF Lead Designer to go over the list and finalize the rules for official use in the campaign! :)

I'd like to say I found a TARDIS and that is reflected in our staff travel.

Or that the skittermanders got into the eggnog before "helping".

The reality is I goofed up. We are getting the entries corrected now.

Last we heard from Lost Omens World Guide was back in october 30th blog, where it was mentioned that it might get sanctioned "in a few weeks". Is there any chance of seeing this happen before christmas, or should we set our expectations on january?

I'd like to plug the next Minnesota convention, Con of the North. February 14-16 2020 with lots of organized play.

Our weather isn't that bad ... mostly.

I'm just going to point out that tomorrow, Saturday Dec. 7th is the one year anniversary of the last time Starfinder's Additional Resources was updated.

Thursty's response has me optimistic that it'll be (somewhat) soon-ish, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Came here to ask the same thing... I'm very excited about the options in the Lost Omens Character Guide, so seeing that even the World Guide still isn't up over a month after the October post is pretty disappointing.

I know there've been some turnover & workflow issues, so I understand if there's a further delay. It's just I have a bunch of character concepts waiting on those books getting okayed, so I'm waiting with bated breath for more updates!

Why are you supporting Totalcon? [redacted]

Event support is based on the event meeting threshold criteria (15+ tables within 3 days) and the organizer requesting support. It has no basis on anything other than those two criteria. There is no judgement in this program, as it is based on the above. There is no support or refusal of support inherent in our system.

We encourage our community members to look at each event and decide if they want to attend based on their personal criteria.

I removed a post. It is not appropriate to raise commentary about people's behavior in a thread about achievements in the Org Play community.
