Fiona shakes her head. "No, he usually worked out of the same place. He wasn't an engineer, so he didn't need to be on the work site very often. One second, I can show you the message." She picks her hand terminal up off the nearby counter, scrolling through it for a few seconds before turning it to show you a message, dated three weeks ago with a time stamp of 6:29PM Tycho time.
Kiziah Numbia
Looking over the message "We should walk his route from his office to home. If he was on his way he could have been... distracted.. on the way home. We also have a time we can try to spot him on the camera."
Kiziah kinda bounces over to the door. Excited with the new info.
"Also should check his office in general"
Tania Teg
Tania nods and is about to leave, but then something comes to mind. At home, she always had a few tool in her room. Not a proper shop, but she liked to work on smaller projects.
She asks, looking at Kiziah: ”Did he ever bring work when he was home? Maybe he kept some project here to work on from time to time?”
GM Losonti
Sorry for no post yesterday, I accidentally took a double dose of one of my daily meds and wound up sleeping almost all day.
Fiona nods to Ignacio, her face wearing a tired smile. "Thank you for your help. With it being so long, I'd...I'd at least like to know what happened." She turns in response to Tania's question, thinking. "I'm not sure, but you can take a look at his terminal, if you like. I'll unlock it for you."
Please make a TN 9 Intelligence (Technology) check to search through Dr Cerri's terminal.
The home has 4 rooms: a master bedroom, a smaller one shared by the children, the living room/kitchenette, and a very cramped bathroom/shower. By Belter or (lower-class) Earther standards, it's practically luxurious. To a Martian, it seems fairly standard.
GM Losonti
Kiziah Numbia
Kiziah looks up to the group "His terminal has correspondence with Dr Bragenholm. Awhile back. She mentioned a job offer. With more money. But she turned it down. Worth looking into. Wonder if this job tried to hire them first, then just took them, after they said no"
Looking around "Should we go to his office next? Or go look into Cerri?"
GM Losonti
Just as a quick summary of suggestions: investigating Cerri's office, looking for security footage, and looking into Bragenholm.
GM Losonti
Yuri, just checking: are you looking for anything Kiziah might have missed, or are you using Mateo's terminal to look for security footage?
GM Losonti
Unfortunately, there's not much else to find on Mateo's terminal, beyond more personal correspondence that has little relevance to your current investigation.
If everyone can chime in with where they'd like to go next, I'll go with whichever has the most votes by the end of today.
Tristan Seong
While the others sift through the files on the computer Tristan makes conversation with Fiona, out of the others' way but close enough that she can keep an eye on the group if she feels the need.
"Forgive me, I wouldn't ask normally but any information could be useful--when I initially mentioned the church your reaction came across as distrustful. Were--or are--you or Matteo not on the best of terms with them? You mentioned keeping a spot on the ship when it eventually sets out, but I don't feel that I understand the full picture."
Building on the rapport from earlier but happy to make a new roll if that would be preferable.
Communication Test: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 3 = 13
Yuri Sokolov
Yuri harumphs as he finds no new information on the terminal. Listening to Kiziah he nods his agreement.
"Might as well get all the ducks in a row, as they say. Thank you madam for your help."
He sketches a short bow towards Fiona as the group heads out.
GM Losonti
"I don't think women should be meek or subservient," Fiona replies bluntly. "The Church disagrees, and likes to remind us of it every Sunday. My outspokenness hasn't made me many friends, either."
She sees you all out, but before the door closes she adds "Please let me know if you find out anything. I'm just glad that someone is taking this seriously."
A short ride in a transit pod delivers you to the Nauvoo project offices, where the receptionist greets you. "Welcome to the Nauvoo Project," he says, in a tone that comes off as overly cheerful. "May I ask the purpose of your visit today?"
Kiziah Numbia
Stepping forward "Hello there! Yes. We are here to look into Dr. Cerri's office. We are looking into where he might be and we would like to see where he works, and maybe talk to his coworkers. If possible we should also gain access to his terminal and correspondence."
Kiziah looks up and gives a big grin at the receptionist.
GM Losonti
"Oh, yes! Apostle Birch said you might be coming by today! Please, follow me." He moves to open a door into a corridor, taking you past several rows of identical cubicles, full of names bearing various important sounding titles. As Tania looks around, several people stop what they're doing and look back, their curiosity clearly piqued by your rather unusual looking group.
Eventually, you're brought to the desk of one Dr. Jeremiah Rambaldi, a bespectacled man with thin, graying hair. After a quick introduction, the receptionist abandons you, leaving you alone with the rather confused engineer.
GM Losonti
"No, no, I don't recall anything like that," Dr. Rambaldi answers, his confusion morphing into suspicion.
Getting some more info out of your new friend will be a TN 13 Communication (Investigation) check.
Tristan Seong
"Ah, where are our manners? We should introduce ourselves. Dr. Rambaldi you are likely already aware, but we've been hired to find a few of your colleagues who have gone missing and your help could be critical. My name is Tristan Seong, and these are..." Tristan introduces the others in turn and offers a hand for Dr. Rambaldi to shake, hoping to smooth over the rough start to this conversation.
"We're in the beginning stages yet and any information at all is a step forward. Can you recall anything about the behavior of Dr. Cerri or Dr. Bragenholm that seemed unusual?"
Communication (Investigation): 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 1) + 3 = 11 Welp!
Kiziah Numbia
While Tristan is talking to to this person, drawing focus Kiziah stands up and kinda starts to nervous walk around. Doing a bit of snooping around for other terminals or data around she could maybe access.
Looking for an unlocked computer near by to maybe snoop into. Just general "perception" type thing.
Also question. how often are there Opposing roles for social encounters. I have "Make an Entrance" stunt boosts. Wonder how often that happens.
GM Losonti
Tristan forgot to add the +2 from his ability focus, so he actually rolled a 13 on the dot! Aiding is possible on a case by case basis. Let me know what you're doing to help and I'll let you know what to roll and if it works. There are occasionally opposed rolls for social encounters, but for these ones you're not really opposing anyone.
The reassuring flattery of Tristan and Ignacio soothes his worries, and he visibly relaxes. "Well, Dr. Cerri didn't seem to be acting any different. He was a really great guy, you know? Always looking out for his team, making sure we felt welcome and appreciated."
"Dr. Braghenholm, though? Pshh," he says. "Right before she took off, she was constantly talking about how bored she was with the project, and would needle people about the smallest things. I doubt anyone on the team misses her."
Tania Teg
Tania nods as the man speaks, reflecting about her parents, and how they were always good to her, and good bosses too. Pushing, but always rightly so, that a Belter may rise above to then, as they would never fail to remind her, reach down with a hand to pull her comrades up.
"So different... Could we see their desks? Or perhaps their personal effects, should these have been put away?"
GM Losonti
Rambaldi shrugs. "I don't see why not, Dr. Cerri's office is over in the corner there. Dr. Bragenholm's space was cleared out a couple months, though."
GM Losonti
"Probably. Why don't you start with Dr. Cerri's terminal while I go track it down?"
Tania Teg
Perception: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5) = 14
Tania slides in behind Yuri. At first, she thinks of making suggestions, but she quickly realizes that Yuri's got things well in hand. She stays where she is, and instead focuses her attention on the other employees she can see from her vantage point, trying to see who's behaving strangely towards them.
GM Losonti
Unfortunately, there's precious little additional information here that you find useful. The correspondence you find seems to confirm that Dr. Cerri was indeed well liked by his coworkers, and he often arranged after-work outings and activities. The rest is work discussions of a highly technical nature, all of which seems to directly relate to his work as biochemist and neurophysiologist.
After a bit, Rambaldi comes back with a small box. In it is a photo frame, featuring a younger Dr. Bragenholm, an older woman, and a young girl. There's also a pot with a dead plant, and a few other knickknacks.
"Sorry, this is all I could find. Doesn't seem like she felt like personalizing her workspace much." He looks around for a second, then leans in conspiratorially. "I'll be honest, nobody really misses her much. She was a real pain in the ass. Always criticizing other people and obsessed with showing how much better than everyone else she was."
Tristan Seong
Tristan's eyes narrow slightly as he glances back to Dr. Rambaldi. "Did she make trouble? Cause any incidents? Did she have any friends on the research team, for that matter."
Perception (Empathy): 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2, 3) + 1 = 12
GM Losonti
Rambaldi shakes his head in response to Tristan. "No, between how much she kept to herself and her needling of coworkers, I doubt she had anyone who could be considered a 'friend' here. Anyway, I've got to get back to work. Hope you find Mateo." He turns to head back to his workspace.
GM Losonti
Sorry, Tania, I misread you!
Quick refresher: the two missing scientists are Anna Bragenholm, a woman, and Matteo Cerri, a man.
Without looking back, Rambaldi gives a shrug and a wave as he heads off. You do recall from your dossier on Bragenholm that her parents and younger sister were both killed when their ship collided with an asteroid, about fourteen years ago. The photo itself gives little indication of where it was taken, though the bulkhead behind the trio suggests it may have been on a station or ship. It seems your investigation has learned all it can from their workplaces.
