Discussion thread. OutPost II runs from March 11 to May 6, however we can continue this table afterwards as long as enough people are up for it.

Please read below for some information on how I run my tables. By getting everyone on the same page, we can make the game run a lot more smoothly :)

Some ground expectations
1. Try to post at least once a day in order to keep things moving. If you are going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, please ensure that your deck handler is linked and available for other players, and provide instructions so that other players can bot your turn. I recommend putting the link in your alias Profile, in the Class line. Wrap it in the url tags so it turns into a link -- see "How to format your text" below the reply box for details on how to do that if you aren't sure
2. Do not wait around for my scenario update posts, just base your turn around the most recent update plus what other players have done since then. I'll get a scenario update out once per day unless there is nothing to update. I'll have other (non-update) posts interspersed throughout the day as needs require.
3. There are no take-backs or retcons, with exception of invalid plays/turns. Use resources wisely, and keep in mind the other perks you get in Organized Play such as accessory re-rolls and die bumps.

Things that make gameplay smoother
1. If a location is shuffled, you can continue to examine or explore cards in it by rolling a die to see which card you examine/explore. No need to wait on me to post an update first with the shuffled deck.
2. When encountering a card, be very explicit in what card you are encountering. This helps other players at the same location know where you left off so they don't accidentally encounter the same cards that you just got through and have to re-do their turn.
3. Use your Notes section to describe any cards or powers that can be used to assist other players on their turns and that you are willing to use. If you post that certain cards are available for use, have the card text available somewhere for other players to reference.
4. When something impacts another player (a power that affects all characters at your location, or you're playing one of their cards), bold that thing so that it stands out.

Things that make deck upgrades smoother
1. Write a list of your 2-5 most desired deck upgrades, in order, and roll 1d1000 for each of them. If you have any conditions on the upgrade, such as "I'll take this only if nobody else wants it or if my planned card X is better than anyone else's planned card" make a note of those as well.
2. That will let us look through those lists and see how we can get everyone their #1 preferred upgrade without lots of times lost in back-and-forth. If people are fighting over an upgrade, the d1000 roll is used to determine who gets it (highest roll wins).
3. You are free to disregard this and discuss upgrades normally; but try to keep discussions to 2 days at most so that we can move on to the next scenario in time.

Discord
There will be a discord server set up for this campaign, link to be posted later. Joining is entirely optional, but highly recommended; it typically speeds things up a lot when people can @mention each other and have an interface for chatting that is easier to use than this discussion thread.

Hi all! I'll be playing as Amli for this table. She's pretty good at fighting, and not bad at fixing ships with her Craft skill.

Amli also has two (in my opinion) very useful supporting powers: First, when any character plays a weapon or armor for their power for a check, she can display her blessings or armor to add 1 to that check. The boost is small, but it's practically free! Second, whenever someone plays a blessing on her checks, that character gets to shuffle a random weapon or armor from their discard into their deck, which makes blessings played on her potentially free as well. I'll be upgrading both of these powers to be even better after I deal with her biggest weakness, which is a hand size of 4.

Looking forward to starting the game!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have played as Amli once already, so she is starting with a Strength skill feat and a Weapon deck upgrade (Greatsword). BR, please let me know if you'd like me to send over her Chronicle sheet for this session.

No need, but thanks for asking.

Hey all. As mentioned to @skizzerz in another thread (and the reason why I chose their table): I'm a PACG, PACG online, and PFS PACG newb. I played the first-edition Rise of the Runelords solo a few times when it first came out, but couldn't ever find a local gaming group. RotR and Skulls & Shackles have languished on my shelves for years. A few days ago, I found out that online play was a possibility and then, bam, OutPost II signups opened.

I've still catching and setting up.

Still re-reading the rules, and still waiting on a shipment of the Barbarian and Ultimate Magic Class Decks (they should arrive tomorrow; I have the Sorcerer Class Deck already). Sorcerer just so happened to be what I bought when PFS PACG play was first announced, and Barbarian and Ultimate Magic because Yewstance's Class Deck analysis suggests the characters within were either Easy or Medium to play as (i.e., suitable for a newb). I hope to play Skulls & Shackles solo (two-handed) a few times before March to minimize most initial "wait, what?" questions.

I typically prefer something pew-pew-y so am likely leaning toward Seoni (Sorcerer) or Enora (UM). Based on the other characters that players have already chosen, if anyone has a particular suggestion for a "good fit" (be it Seoni, Enora, or any of the Barbarians), then I'll play that. I, literally, don't know any better and am just as quick to pick a character because "this art is better" or "pew, pew, whooo!"

(Note that I'm also posting as my main because I haven't yet set up the PFS PACG alias.)

Welcome Morbus!

As far as characters go, honestly anything will work as long as it's a character you'll enjoy.

That being said, there are a few things that we might want to have as a group to make our lives easier.

This season is based off of SnS, as you seemed to already know, so we are going to want to have some characters that are good at survival, some characters that are good at Craft, and some WIS and/or CON based character. To a minor degree, it would be good to have someone with the Knowledge skill.

If you find a character that you'd like to play that has one or more of those things, then I think it would be a great idea to choose them. Otherwise, choose what you like best and we'll make it work.

Hi all!

Excited to join you! Currently I'm leaning towards playing Skizza for no particular reason, other than there are guns in this season, but could pull in any number of other characters if it balances things out.

Survival is pretty great for SnS, so I might switch over to Grazzle, Kasmir, Alase, or Zova...or who knows.

Needless to say, I'm open to whatever will make that party work better.

Looking forward to the game!

Got my Barbarian and Ultimate Magic class decks yesterday. In Sorcerer and Ultimate Magic, none of the characters seemed to match any of the criteria that Akaitora mentioned. In the Barbarian class deck, Amiri has a CON of d8, a WIS of d6, and a Survival of WIS +2. Ostog has a CON of d10 and a WIS of d6, but no Survival. No one had Craft. So, I think I'm flip-flopping between Amiri (Barbarian, mechanically inline with what Akaitora suggested) or Seoni (Sorcerer, emotionally pew-pew).

Stats (and starting pregen deck list) for Amiri / Seoni:

https://www.esglabs.com/pacg/pregens/?deck=barbarian&tier=tier1
https://www.esglabs.com/pacg/pregens/?deck=sorcerer&tier=tier1

֍ Deck Handler ֍ Looking for: Weapon > Armor > Spell

Do you like one of them better? I can attest to the fact that Ultimate Magic is loads of fun.

Well, I "like" Seoni better cos I tend to always like magic better.
But, I've not played either, so I have no logical gameplay rationale.
(Next step for me will be to play each in a few S&S scenarios.)

EDIT: Methinks I'm just going to play Seoni. Amiri's stats aren't that amazeballs when it comes to your suggestions (they are, "merely", better than the other characters I have), so I think I'll lean toward playing a "doesn't match your suggestions, but I know I like magic pew pew" instead of "kinda matches your suggestion, but pretty low on my list of liked classes."

I'd go ahead and plan for Seoni then. Always better to go with what you like over something else. We can definitely use Arcane and Diplomacy in the party. Survival is nice, but it really only matters on ship combats and there are ways of working around that.

֍ Deck Handler ֍ Looking for: Weapon > Armor > Spell

Awesome! Glad you were able to find something you like. As previously mentioned, any party works as long as we are all having fun.

Deck Handler; Upgrades Weapons>Allies>Blessings Str 1d8+2; Dex 1d8+2 (Disable Device Dex+2, Stealth Dex+2); Con 1d8; Int 1d4; Wis 1d6 (Perception Wis +2); Cha 1d8+1 (Diplomacy Cha +2)

Hello everyone. I'll be playing Radovan, tiefling bodyguard.

He gets to pick one of three devil forms at the start of the scenario. They give him different bonuses. I'm still working of figuring out a starting deck but will link it soon.

Morbius, I don't know if any one showed you the PACG Wiki
The wiki is a pretty good resource for reviewing cards and decks.

Hi all, I am new to playing by forum so bear with me.

I plan to play with the Hunter Deck and play as Korundo. I am working on building a deck handle sheet and will send it over to make sure I am not missing anything. I do not plan on using an ultimate deck because I like the challenge of not having one at the moment.

He gets one cohort at the beginning of each scenario. Once I know the scenario I will let you know who I will be playing with.

BR skizzerz is there anything else I need to do to set up?

EDIT: Here is the start of my card deck handler, My son woke up before I could get stuff entered in so I need to go deal with him. I will get it taken care of from there. BR skizzerz, the big question I have for you is there any thing that should be added to this?

EDIT 2: Am i suppose to send a picture or something to prove that I do own the hunter class deck to someone? I saw something on this but a little confused by it.

Apologize for the double post but just realized about the Alias thing under Characters. Is there a way to update this to show I am using Korundo to make it easier for everyone?

To go based off this Korundo has a CON of a D10, and a WISDOM of a d8 with the survival: WISDOM+2. So this character would be useful to cover these gaps based off what I am seeing.

Does someone have the Charisma area covered? Korundo's Divine Skill is under wisdom.

Also do we have a healer of some sort? Korundo can do some based off the cards but not consistently.

Sorry for all the posts today. I wanted to give you guys my deck manager now that is set up. I am looking forward to beginning the campaign. :

Morph's Korundo Deck Handler

Like I said in an above post, since this is the first time I have used a deck manager, if someone could double check that I did not break anything that would be great.

Secondly I realized about Alias after I started posting and I do not want to break anything to switch over to saying Morph147 Korundo like the rest of you have switched to your characters. This way it will be less confusing on who I am playing later.

Switching what alias you post as will not break anything

Korundo Deck Handler

Test test

֍ Deck Handler ֍ Looking for: Weapon > Armor > Spell

It might also be a good idea to put an URL to your deck handler in the profile for your Korundo Alias.

To do that, you just need to click on your alias above your "Test test" message, select "Create Profile" and then enter the URL under race. This way the link to your deck handler will show up with all of your posts.

Morph147 wrote:

Send the picture to MorkXII@orgplayonline.com. it should include the following:

1. The class deck itself
2. A slip of paper on which you've written your paizo.com username and PFS #

Skizza Deck Handler

Think I've got Skizza all set and ready to roll. Deckhandler is linked via the profile and should be viewable by all when needed.

Of note to the box runner, I'm using the 4-7P Duel reward for Skizza to gain a card feat in both allies and blessings, so he'll start with 17 cards.

BR skizzerz: I work from home and rarely take vacations (and, if I did, I'd have someone proxy for me), so I intend to play with the real cards Nearby at all time. I will still likely setup and (attempt to) use the deck handler, but I'm not sure I'd be perfectly studious in keeping it up to date.

Is a properly-maintained deck handler required for your table?

Please learn how to use the deck handler, and use that as your primary means of tracking your deck state. While you have your own personal cards in front of you, you'll acquire cards from location decks as well as maybe have other cards handed to you. Additionally, you'll unlock loot cards as you progress which you can swap into your deck.

Because you'll have cards that you may not otherwise have access to, it's better to put everything in the deck handler and use that.

I personally use both. I have a physical deck built so I can easily and quickly reference what the cards are, but the online deck handler is used to track what's actually in my hand, discard, bury pile, etc. at any given time.

Is Blessing of Pharasma missing the Basic trait?

It's included in the pregen Seoni here (based off the old 2.x PFS PACG Guide):

https://www.esglabs.com/pacg/pregens/?deck=sorcerer&tier=tier1

but my copy doesn't have the Basic trait.

Nevermind!

(There are only four Basic blessings in the Sorcerer Class Deck and, per The Hierarchy, that then moves me to "Use cards that have the set indicator B without the Basic trait", which allows the Blessing of Pharasma.)

Korundo Deck Handler

Ok I think the Deck Handler is there. I have added something about which Cohort I will be using. Not as automatic as I would like so will have to update by hand but I dont have more time to deal with it.

Will send a picture later. I am a teacher and finals is this week and then starting to prep for 4 separate courses so life is insane.

I know there is a couple days in April that will be insane on my end due to taking students to a competition in DC I am hoping to be able to still have some internet access during that time but will need to confirm. Otherwise will leave instructions. Still trying to decide my cohort route but I think early on going to focus on Leryn to abuse the examine the location deck.

Edit: On the front of Leryn I need a quick ruling - At start of turn I use Leryn to examine. Then after my explore step but before I end my turn, I use Leryn second ability to put it on top of my deck to examine the next 2 cards of the location deck. After I draw my hand, Leryn will immediately come back into my hand. Am I allowed to immediately play Leryn or do I have to wait till start of my next turn. I have played to much magic and never know with some of these games what cards can be played when.

Skizzerz please check my deck manager to make sure there is nothing else you want me to have there. I can not remember if we automatically get any skills of our choice or not. The only other thing I am thinking of doing is adding another tab with all of the cards in the hunter deck for quick reference so I can update message board during prep times to keep game moving.

My other question I have to ask is how does dice rolling work on here, especially if you have to make multiple rolls in a turn.

Deck Handler; Upgrades Weapons>Allies>Blessings Str 1d8+2; Dex 1d8+2 (Disable Device Dex+2, Stealth Dex+2); Con 1d8; Int 1d4; Wis 1d6 (Perception Wis +2); Cha 1d8+1 (Diplomacy Cha +2)

Dice rolling- Lets say Radovan needs to make a stealth check of 5. Radovan would enter {dice=Stealth 5}1d8+2{/dice} except you would replace the { with [ and } with ] so if done with the correct brackets it looks like Stealth 5: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4.

If you want to bold your text. You would put what you want in bold between [b][/b]. Italics is [i][/i]. Same as above {=[ and }=] for {ooc} {/ooc} is used for out of character content usually to explain mechanics of your turn- its the blue text below.

So a sample post might consist of:

While searching the ruins, Radovan detects movement down the hall. Looking he sees a skeleton approaching. Drawing his rapier, Radovan thrusts at the undead creature. Combat 8+3: 1d8 + 3d4 ⇒ (7) + (1, 2, 4) = 14 Add 3 to combat difficulty for Piercing Trait. Reveal and discard rapier for additional 3d4 to check.

You can do multiple dice rolls per post.

if you forget there is "How to format your text" at the bottom of the message box about 1/2" inch below "Post As".

Not mentioned above is that your dice rolls remain the same if you preview or edit your post, so you can type stuff out to a dice roll, hit preview to see the result, and then keep typing after that knowing that is the result you'll have.

In addition to dice rolls, here are some good guidelines on when to use other formatting:

bold = use when trying to grab the attention of someone else (for example, when you're using some of their resources like a blessing), or when speaking out loud while roleplaying in-character

italics = use when thinking to yourself while roleplaying in-character

ooc = use for out-of-character stuff, like exactly what cards or powers you're playing. See the above post for an example (the ooc is the light blue text).

You don't have to role-play, but I encourage you to give it a shot. Play by post gives more opportunity to explore your character than in-person games due to the extra amount of time you have to make a post. Don't feel compelled to do it; it's supposed to be an extra way to have fun, not a chore or something you dread. So, if you hate it, don't do it.

Another thing not mentioned but bears stating, always copy/paste your posts to notepad or something before hitting submit. The paizo forums have a nasty tendency to eat your posts without saving if you've been on the post screen for too long or browsed too many other pages or a myriad other reasons. It really sucks to lose all the work you've put into making a post, so save it off somewhere before hitting submit so you have a backup.

No, you cannot play cards in-between turns. The earliest opportunity you have to play Leryn again is after the blessings deck is advanced and any start-of-turn effects are resolved for the next turn. Note: unless a card says you have to play it on your turn, you can play it on any turn. You can and should play your cohorts as soon as possible on turn 1, even if you aren't going first.

You can play cards without limit in-between steps of a turn. During a step of a turn, you cannot play cards unless the step explicitly says that you can (and these usually limit your plays in some way, shape, or form).

Playing magic will likely throw you off a lot in terms of timing stuff for this game, unfortunately. PACG is intentionally unlike magic in pretty much every aspect. The biggest difference is that there is no stack. You fully process one power before moving onto the next (some powers can interrupt others, these always begin with the word "when"). When doing things like resolving start or end of turn effects, you pick one to resolve and resolve it. Then you look again at every valid effect, pick one to resolve, and resolve it, and repeat that until everything is resolved. This means that what you resolve first can sometimes introduce new powers that need to be resolved or let you dodge away from powers so they no longer have to be resolved. If it sounds confusing, it's because I tried to type this late at night in the span of 5 minutes. Hit me up on discord (once I post the link) or make a post in the rules forum and I can explain in more depth.

Regarding your other question about the deck handler -- put as much stuff as you want there so that you can use it as a good resource. I don't ever look at the deck handlers during the course of gameplay; it's a tool for you (and other players), not me.

BR skizzerz wrote:

Is there anyway that this is normally handled then if I want to play something at the start of someones turn after my turn goes? Just make a note after I reset hand that this card is played the moment the blessing deck advances?

Yep. Just put a note of it at the bottom of your post (some people put it above the hand update, others put it below the hand update -- it's largely just a matter of personal preference).

Deck Handler (pregen). Sorcerer + UM.

Rules (and newb) question. JINX EATER says:

Quote:

Discard this card to explore your location. Add 1 to your combat checks during this exploration.

If you would fail a combat check by 1, you may bury this card to succeed.

So, I understand this to be EITHER (paragraph 1) discard and explore with a +1 to that exploration's combat checks OR (paragraph 2) I'm in the middle of a combat check, without having played Jinx Eater previously, and I just failed by 1, and now I can bury Jinx Eater to succeed.

Is that correct?

Deck Handler (pregen). Sorcerer + UM.

K, my deck handler is done.

skizzerz: I'll be running with two accessory perks (Ultra•PRO character mats).

Morbus, you are correct, the Jinx Eater has two separate powers the first is paragraph 1 and the second is paragraph 2. When you play a boon card you can only use one of its powers.

Morbus Iff > PACG > Seoni wrote:

Each perk (reroll and mat draw) can only be used once per scenario. The number of accessories you have does not increase this limit. Just wanted to clarify that.

MMM thats weird, Grimsnik, Morbus, and Rhynn: I am not able to view your deck managers in link because it wants you to give me permission to view.

Just as a sanity check does it do the same to you all if you check mine as well?

Skizza Deck Handler

Hrm, that is odd. Give it another try and let me know if it's still not working. I tried it while signed out of google and it seemed to work, but better to confirm with someone else.

Morph, your deckhandler works fine for me.

I have 5 deck boxes, so if anyone is missing the once per scenario reroll option I can certainly "share" one.

Yep, understood! I meant it as in "I have a single accessory (the playmat) so I unlocked the first accessory perk (reroll). Also, because the accessory just so happens to be the playmat, I also unlocked the second accessory perk (mat draw)". They're listed in my deck handler stats as: "¶ Once per scenario, after you roll the dice, you can reroll 1 die; you must take the new result. ¶ Once per scenario, at the start of your turn, you can discard a card to draw a card." If/when I use them, I'll flag them as such in the deck handler too ("used in 0-1" or some such, or maybe a strikethrough.)

Yup. That did the trick.

Now that I have Skizza all built and ready to roll, it sounds like my gaming table from GenCon this last year has decided to try and pick up where we left off for Tapestry's Tide during OutPost II. The box runner is new and a friend so I'm going to pack up my things and head off to the other table. Good luck!!

Sorry to see you go, but good luck over there!

Sorry to see you go as well. Hopefully we get a 5th to round out the team. where it looks like we could run into trouble is intelligence and dexterity. really most worried about the intelligence.

If someone doesn't come along that can handle intelligence checks, I can swap to Feiya to cover both Craft checks and Intelligence (plus having an Arcane caster is always good).

Hi All

Damiel joining in here. Looks like you need an Int /craft based character and I carry 2 cure spells, so can handle offHeal duties
Let me science up use tried and true healings on you :-)

Oh yes, also strong in dexterity:-)

welcome to the team. looking forward to getting this game kicked off.
