Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Seeing that Jayla has a better plan, Khardan changes tactics. He draws his warhammer and defends Jayla.

Furthermore, you realize that the scythe appears to be some sort of focus for the spirits' hatred. If it's destroyed, the spirits will likely be free to move on to their final rest.
Jayla Janviel
Thanks for the info.
Okay, I'm going to run something by you to see what you think. The healing hex's wording is as follows: Once a creature has benefited from the healing hex, it cannot benefit from it again for 24 hours. Now, if the scythe is being animated by the tormented souls of every prisoner it's chopped (and also the executioner), would not that mean Jayla could technically keep hitting it with the healing hex multiple times as it isn't just one spirit but many, each time targeting a new spirit? I know this might sound like a stretch, but technically it is more than one spirit and the positive energy is effecting different targets.
Imperia Albus
Imperia swings at the scythe again hopping to keep it occupied with her and not Jayla.
Cold Iron Rapier: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM_Carrioncat
Imperia's efforts to strike the scythe are unsuccessful.
Bramwell, seeing Khardan's example, starts trying to interpose his scythe between Jayla and the possessed weapon.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
But the scythe is too quick. It launches past him towards the witch that harmed it...
Chop: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 vs. AC 14
...and Khardan's hammer catches it before it can strike her!
Jayla's up!
Jayla Janviel
btw, Thanks for allowing this, GM. Sorry, was making an airport run this morning. Couldn't really post earlier.
Round 3
At the scythe's too close quarters, she calls out to her companions, "I've come to believe the scythe is possessed by the soul of the executioner and all the tormented souls of the prisoners that have died by its blade."
She attempts to touch the animated scythe to infuse it again with the positive healing energy of her hex, targeting another spirit attached to it.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Healing Hex on Scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Will save (DC 15) for half damage
but her efforts this time prove unsuccessful. (I don't believe that hits.)
Jayla's AC before any aid is 16 (12+4 for mage armour).
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Khardan continues defending Jayla.
Aid Another (+2 to Jayla's AC): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 23

Imperia Albus
"Tormented souls of prisoners? Hmm. Worth a shot." she shrugs and calls out. "Prisoners of the Harrostone prison turn on your executioner. There are so many more of you than just his one soul, and we are here to help. We'll do our best to find a way to free you from this plane, and release you to the Boneyard if you help us."
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Can't hurt to try.
GM_Carrioncat
Imperia's words don't seem to slow the scythe down at all. Bramwell grimaces and keeps trying to put his scythe between Jayla and it. "I'm not sure they're willing to listen at this point..."
Aid Another (AC): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
...but the scythe goes over his blade and flies at the witch again!
Chop: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
This time, the blade swings down and sticks into the stone balcony!
Jayla's up!
Jayla Janviel
Round 4
At the scythe's persistence to harm her, Jayla once again attempts to touch the animated scythe to infuse it with more of the positive healing energy of her hex, targeting another spirit attached to it.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Healing Hex on Scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
This time her hand finds the haft.
Will save (DC 15) for half damage.
GM_Carrioncat
Will Save: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (3) - 5 = -2
This time, as Jayla grabs the haft of the scythe, everyone hears what sounds like several screams in unison as her magic takes hold. The scythe's blade starts to chip and fracture, and it shakes violently as it tears itself loose from the stone floor.
Round 4: Imperia, Khardan & Bramwell are up!
Imperia Albus
Imperia seeing Jayla is harming the scythe attempts to aid her as well.
Cold Iron Rapier to Aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Wow that's some cold dice.
Lord Bramwell
Melee - Scythe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Lord Bramwell keeps swinging wildly at the hovering scythe, but both blades insist on dancing in different tempo. Given the erratic movements of the possessed weapon, it is as if the hundreds of souls fighting for its control cannot agree on their murderous swings, Bramwell thinks. Such randomness throws the dhampir's aim off time and again, and it is no different this time.
Looking to the side, he notices Jayla's second successful attempt to grab the scythe, and makes a mental note that she has a much better knack to understand where to strike. A much better intuition, she has.
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Khardan continues defending Jayla.

Khardan continues defending Jayla.
[dice=Aid Another (+2 to Jayla's AC)]1d20+3+2
With mage armour and Khardan's successful aid, Jayla's AC is now 16+2=18 this round. Waiting on the possessed scythe to try to chop Jayla before she can act. ;)
Jayla Janviel
Round 4
Growing tired of the scythe's continued persistence to harm her, Jayla once more reaches forward, attempting to touch the animated, moving scythe to infuse it with a little more of the positive healing energy of her hex, targeting yet another spirit attached to it.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Healing Hex on Scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
And in her desire and rush to stop the scythe, her hand misses the haft and she grits her teeth at the lost opportunity. Boo. :(
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Khardan's bestial nature suddenly overtakes his patience. With a roar, he switches to offense, trying to seize the scythe to subdue it so Jayla can more easily exorcise the trapped spirits.

Imperia swings at the scythe again.
Cold Iron Rapier: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 With whatever grapple penalty to the scythe. -4?
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Lord Bramwell
Melee - Scythe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6
Khardan's firm hold of the scythe makes it easier for Bramwell to calculate his own strike. With fierce determination, he swings his blade against the possessed weapon.
GM_Carrioncat
Bramwell finally manages to land a blow on the scythe. Unfortunately, the weapon appears to have been supernaturally hardened--it doesn't appear to have really been hurt by it.
The scythe starts thrashing about in Khardan's grip, trying to escape!
CMB: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
And it finally manages to wrench itself free!
Jayla's up!
Jayla Janviel
Round 5
Jayla watched as the possessed scythe freed itself from Khardan's grip and she uttered aloud, "You spirits are trying my patience!"
Again, she stretches out her arm and attempts to grip or touch the haft of the scythe in order to pour her positive healing energy into it and harm another spirit attached to it.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Healing Hex on Scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
And once again the bobbing scythe eludes her touch.
I've caught Imperia's bad luck with the dice.
Imperia Albus
Imperia tries to swing again in aid of Jayla. [b]"I should have gotten some Holy Water in town, but then I'd have to explain why I wanted Holy Water."[/dice]

Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Khardan darts in and once again seizes the haft of the scythe.

AoO vs. Khardan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The scythe blindly swings at Khardan as the priest grabs it by the haft once more, and this time Bramwell manages to chip off a piece of the scythe's blade.
It flails about, trying to escape Khardan's grip!
CMB: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
And it wrenches itself free once again!
Jayla's up!
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Sounds like DR 10 (or more likely hardness 10). Power attack if you have it! Or aid Jayla in hitting, maybe?
Edit: Jayla, why not delay and let us Aid you in hitting? There's a potential +6 bonus there.
Jayla Janviel
Edit: Jayla, why not delay and let us Aid you in hitting? There's a potential +6 bonus there.
Jayla's last in initiative. And not all in the group are aiding Jayla, so I'm unsure how this would improve things overall. It was only Imperia aiding this round. I might try it if it seems the others are all aiding ... next round.
Jayla Janviel
Round 6
Seeing the scythe once again slip from Khardan's grip moments before she could attempt to grab it set Jayla's teeth on edge. She did not blame Khardan for he was risking himself time and again to grab the possessed scythe in order to help her and the party. Jayla could hear Lirin chirp softly against her ear beneath the hood and she instantly tried to calm herself. She stretched out her arm and tried to grab the haft and wound a new spirit with her positive healing magic.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 0 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 0 + 2 = 12 (+2 from Imperia's aid. I hope that is enough.)
Healing Hex on scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
GM_Carrioncat
Will Save: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (13) - 5 = 8
The smell of burnt wood and bloodstained metal fills the air along with a pained scream as Jayla's healing magic sears into another spirit possessing the scythe.
The executioner's weapon starts to drag along the stone balcony, and it's wobbling erratically about. The scythe appears to be barely holding together!
Round 7: Imperia, Khardan & Bramwell are up!
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros
Khardan keeps the scythe busy with a furious rain of attacks, trying to help Jayla.

Noticing that Jayla's attacks are way more effective than his, Bramwell switches tactics and swings his scythe with a new purpose in mind. Instead of aiming at the shaft and blade hovering before him, he strikes in such a way that forces it towards the graceful changeling, hoping to turn it into an easy target for the girl.
Aid another (Jayla): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
:P
Imperia Albus
Imperia takes a swing at the scythe as it flips by from Bramwell and Khardan she hopes to stop it's momentum just enough for Jayla to touch it again.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Jayla Janviel
Round 7
With her companions rallying around her to ensure they could keep the scythe still enough for her to reach, Jayla determinedly stretched her arm out and tried to close her hand around the haft so once again she could infuse it with her positive healing energy, targeting yet another spirit attached to it.
Touch Attack with aid: 1d20 + 0 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 0 + 2 + 2 = 23
Healing Hex on scythe: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Will save (DC 15) for half damage.
This time her hand securely closed around the haft and Jayla called upon her hex, hoping to finish off the possessed scythe once and for all.
GM_Carrioncat
Will Save: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (17) - 5 = 12
For the last time, Jayla's hand closes around the scythe's haft and channels healing magic into it. The weapon suddenly goes completely stiff and a wail of anguish comes from the blade!
The scythe's head falls off and shatters into rusted iron shards on the balcony, and the wooden haft chars, rots and falls apart in her hand. The executioner's scythe is no more.
Combat over!
