Secrets of Kreshire

Game Master Aeosianna

The world of Kreshire was once ruled by tyrannical monstrous old gods thousands of years ago. When they left, new, more benevolent gods took their place. Now there has been a rash of cataclysmic signs that the old gods are returning. The situation is not as straightforward as it seems, however; and the truth behind these events may be vastly different than what most people in Kreshire believe.

A human-sized, hideous vaguely humanoid fish-like creature jumps out of the water into the deck near Robin. He wears breastplate armor and wields a trident, and snarls at the crew.

At the same time three, horse-sized monstrous lobster-like creatures with long legs and a mouth full of writhing tendrils begin to hoist their way up the deck, you may see their massive pinchers already peeking from behind the rails.

The saughin is marked in blue and the chuul are marked in green.

Pursuit goes between Eldon and Laurelai in initiative order. The chuul will fully land on deck on their turn.

I am about to go to bed, so posting now so I don't hold it up.

Laurelai takes up a fencing posture as she draws her Rapier, lunging forwards at the Sahuagin, before dropping back out of reach.

Use bonus action for Disengage, move up to Sahuagin attack (should get sneak attack from Robin's prescence) and withdraw out of reach.

Rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 + Sneak Attack: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 6) = 14 = 21 dmg.

Robin's rapier unfortunately bends against the saughin's hard breastplate, he chuckles at that, and a second after Robin's scimitar slashes the monster's face!

The saughin has taken 20 damage.

M Dwarf Cleric 8

Thorin moves towards the Suaghin and chants a small prayer, a light erupts from his shield towards the Suaghin

Casting guiding light, 2nd level spell slot
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Should we wait for Eldon or move on? I should have used chunked initiative.

I think Chunked Initiative is the best option.

I have been swayed and agree

The sahuagin does not tolerate this insult! He takes his trident with both hands and charges toward Robin!

attack: 1d20 + 4 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 7 = 12
damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11

Unfortunately the fish man's blind rage and Robin's swiftness causes him to miss. Then is poked and stabbed viscously behind by a sneaking Laurelai.

The sahuagin(misspelled this earlier) takes 21 damage. He is now visibly hurt badly and is bloodied.

To add more injury to injury, the sahuagin is blasted by Thorin's attack.

The sahuagin takes 22 damage is really badly damage, but still enraged to kill.

At the same time, the three large chuuls whose claws poked out from behind the rails now hoist and jump on deck. Their formidable claws are eager for blood.

Pursuit backs a bit away from the railing and turns to the Chuul closest to her. She mumbles something in a strange language and throws open her palm at the creature. Two beams of black crackling energy erupt from her palm.

Casting Eldritch Blast: Cantrip

Shaani hurls her axe at the sahuagin, immediately pulling out another handaxe throwing it at the Chuul near the starboard (right side) ballista and then moves up next to Slashiir.

I don't have my books right now, but I think drawing weapons can be done as part of making attacks, I'm not sure if you can still draw as part of a move, if so, I draw my sword while moving

Handaxe at Sahuagin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Handaxe at Chuul: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

A chuul gets blasted twice with the fury of an eldritch blast from Pursuit; twice! It gets knocked off the boat and back into the water.

Chuul A has taken 25 damage and looses it's next turn.

Meanwhile, a chuul gets whacked hard by Lady Slashiir's hammer! The second time it hits, however it hits a much harder part of it's carapace that does not hurt as much.

Chuul B has taken 10 damage.

The sahuagin gets two handaxes to the head courtesy of Shaani. He spurts bloods from the wounds and collapses dead.

The sahuagin has taken 15 damage and is dead. It took 78 damage total and had 76 hitpoints.

I used the sahuagin baron for this
Alright, so next we'll have Robin, Laurelai, or Thorin whoever posts first. Then the chuul, then Pursuit, Slashiir, and Shaani, or should Pursuit come before the chuul? Hmm and if Eldon shows up he can come whenever.

Male Gnome Wizard 8

Eldon shakes himself out of his stupor and touches his left wand to the deck. The wand grows outward and into the deck as a root-like tendril flows through the wood and spurts up in front of the Chuul still on the deck, next to Lady Slashiir. The wood grows up and forms a vaguely humanoid shape before solidifying into stone. The gargoyle spreads it's wings and shrieks at the Chuul. (Conjure minor elementals)

Sorry I missed a couple of turns, have been really busy recently. It won't happen again :)

Sneak attack (if either hits): 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 3) = 16

Laurelai's rapier stabs into a soft spot of the creature's carapace!

Chuul B takes 12 damage.

Unfortunately, Robin's rapier does not, but his scimitar does give a hefty slash to the creature!

Chuul B takes 21 damage.

Waiting for Thorin now, if he isn't here for some time, then someone else can attack, then the chuuls attack.

M Dwarf Cleric 8

Thorin throws his hammer toward the nearest chuul, but unfortunately the hammer flies wide.

The chuuls attack!

Chuul B multiattack: 2x pinchers

hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
bludgeoning damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 = 13

hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
bludgeoning damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10

Lady Slashiir has taken 13 damage and is now grappled!
Eldon's gargoyle has taken 10 damage and has also been grappled!

The chuul grapples Lady Slashiir and Shaani valiantly reacts with a swing of her longsword, which unfortunately misses.

Unfortunately there is also a third chuul on deck.

Chuul C multiattack: 2x pinchers

hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
bludgeoning damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12

hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
bludgeoning damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8

The third chuul attempts to grapple Laurelai as she backs out of the way from the second chuul, but misses! It tries to grapple Eldon but misses the small gnome.

Everyone who has been grappled must make an Athletics check against 14 on their turn to escape. This requires 1 action.

I am assuming the gargoyle is the one in the mm with an AC of 15 right?

With the chuul she targeted overboard, Pursuit turns to Chuul C and repeats the motion she did earlier while mumbling in that strange language. Once again, two crackling beams of energy fly towards the target.

Casting Eldritch Blast: Cantrip

Second Beam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Like before, the beams will hit in force should they hit, sending the chuul flying back up to 10 feet per beam.

What deplorable and vile creatures, attacking a child! Robin cannot stand such uncouth behavior, attempting to teach the chuul intimate knowledge of his blades. He applies his Cunning Action to dash to Slashiir's rescue.

Rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Sneak Attack: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 1) = 12

Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Yeah, probably not going to hit

The chuul takes quite a beating from Lady Slashiir! She makes a critical hit as one of her attacks smashes against it's face!

Chuul B has taken 7 damage from the first rage, then 22 damage from the critical hit from the second rage.

The gargoyle vainfully lashes out at it's captor, it's claws manage to scratch the carapace somewhat but it's teeth cannon sink in well.

Chuul B has taken 5 damage.

Robin then sneaks and stabs at the monster, but it's flailing causes his scimitar to miss when he tries to slash it.

Chuul B has taken 18 damage.

Chuul B has taken 62 damage so far and is now in pretty bad shape and is bloodied. It releases Lady Slashiir and the gargoyle.

Meanwhile the third chuul attempts to avoid Eldon's attack.

Dex Saving Throw: 1d20 ⇒ 15

The chuul dodges the attack somewhat but not completely.

Chuul C has taken 11 damage.

However this provides some distraction for an eldritch blast is coming it's way! Pursuit's eldritch blast crackles menacingly, a beam of energy seemingly dark in origin but strangely radiant at the same time. Sickly yellow whorls corkscrew around the blast as it misses the first time, but the second blast hits the chuul and knocks it into the water!

Chuul C has taken 13 damage and is knocked into the water.

Who still needs to attack before the chuul attack?

I will recap the init order since the last Chuuls' turn for your convenience, DM

Robin -went-
Saugin Warrior -is down-
Eldon -went-
Pursuit -went-
Laurelai -yet to go-
Thorin -yet to go-
3 Chuul (rolled 13)
Shaani -went in this post-
Lady Slasiir -went-

Shaani plunges brings up her sword for a powerful thrust at the chuul that remains on the ship's deck attempting to push it off the ship as well.

Using my Pushing strike maneuver, if I hit, I deal +1d8 damage and the Chuul must succeed at a DC 15 Strength save or be pushed 15 feet away from me (and into the water)

Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (4) = 10

If the chuul succeeds its saving throw, I make another regular attack against it

Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

The chuul rises above and is hungry for vengence. Pursuit blasts it twice but misses, the enigmatic black and yellow energy fading past it. Shaani swings her sword at the monster and hits it badly, she swings again but misses. Lady Slashiir rages at it, her hammer smacks it twice on the face! Shaani then uses her shield to push it back into the water and succeeds.

Chuul A has taken 33 damage and has been knocked back into the water.

The chuuls can be vaguely made out from above the water. They gather together on one side of the boat, then stop. They seems to make their way toward the boat for a bit but then stop, and turn around. They swim away.

1 sahuagin baron(1,800 XP) and 3 chuuls (1,100 XP) have been defeated.
1,800 + 3(1,100) = 5,100
5,100/7 = 728.57
Each party member gets 730 XP

There is a bloody corpse of a sahuagin on deck and some icky chuul blood here and there. You all notice that the boat is already on the pier, the sea floor already vaguely visible from above, hence why you could see the chuul vaguely underwater as they left.

The town of Berem is just right up ahead

You find 190 SP and 80 GP.

You also find a trident and breastplate armor.

Also a peculiar detail about this sahuagin: it has four arms, something you may or may not have missed when attacking..
