Responding to the tiefling Uriah says No, can't say that I have. But then again, I spent more time looking at Morrgana's rump than at passenger's faces. Uriah grins.

Always ebullient, Uriah agrees to introduce himself to the warforged and his charges.

The name is Lewis, Uriah Lewis. Uriah doffs his cap and bows.

An older, scholarly man in long, blue robes steps to the side of Servitor. "Oh! Well met there Uriah!" He appears to be enjoying the free flowing wine. He returns Uriah's bow. "The pleasure is all ours." He looks around and motions around the vessel with the hand holding his wine. He sloshes some out of the wine glass. "Tis a lovely ship you have here lad! How long you been sailing?" His speech is a bit slurred. "This is Servitor and that is Jarot.

While Adir recognizes Tierney's surprise at his ignorance, his curiosity and wish to learn new things causes him to forge ahead. His eagerness is obvious, and he fires off questions quickly. "When you say land of the dead... do you mean undead like in stories? How can no one know what happened? Can people not go there now? How did it end the war? What war was it?" It is clear that the young man is not worldly.

Tierney gives Ghost a quick apprehensive look but maintains his composure. After a moment's thought he addresses Adir's questions.

"The country of Cyre was destroyed in the war, the one that just ended two years ago. No one survived and now they call Cyre the 'Mournland' as a result. No one is certain what killed everything in Cyre. Some say that House Cannith accidentally brought about the devastation. And now what does survive their is twisted and unnatural. The dead are said to move about and attack living beings who travel there."

After a long pause, Tierney continues "The war that just ended was called the 'Last War' because it was so recent and because many claim that it ended any chance that a great war will ever be fought again. No one would ever risk the death and horrors of war again after seeing what happened. It lasted over a century and was initially fought over secession to the throne of Galifar, which no longer exists. Of course, over a century, other factors kept the war going."

"I saw many survivors of the war in recent years. Many of them would have been better off had they died earlier. Surely you must have encountered someone who fought in it." This last is spoken of almost as a question.

He pats you on the shoulder. "Their loss then!" He thinks for a second. "You handy with that blade? We might could use a man like you in Sharn. I am Provost Bonal of Morrgrave University." He leans in and whispers, "Important stuff and plenty of chances to chase some skirts." He winks. "My friend Servitor here can explain it in more detail. As for me...so much wine and so little time!" Bonal appears to be drunk, but somehow he makes you feel like he knows more about you than he should. "Oriel you said?" You realize you never mentioned anything about your birthright. He strolls off to another passenger.

Adir ponders this information for a moment. "It certainly seems reasonable that I have. But perhaps..." His attention seems distracted for a moment. He returns his attention to you, but his eyes drift between meeting yours and something in the distance over your shoulder. If you look, he seems to be looking in a shadowy corner, but nothing obvious is there. "...err... but perhaps they chose not to speak of it if it was as terrible as you say. I lived in seclusion until recently."

Adir makes a hand gesture and the she-wolf runs to the corner, a low growl emanating from her. "Is that why... umm... why you are going to research it? To reverse the destruction?" His attention seems to be fully back on you finally as Ghost makes her way back.

"Oh no, no mortal could undo the destruction of an entire nation. I simply want to learn about what form it took and what caused it. There might have been some survivors, after all, but I doubt it. Some explorers have returned from the Mournland but their stories are inconsistent. I wish to divine the truth of the matter."

He sees something. I don't want to turn around, lest I reveal to the object of interest that he or she is being observed. With that thought, Tierney furiously thinks of ways to learn what Adir sees. Surreptitiously, he casts his gaze about for reflective surfaces that would show what is behind him.

Perception, if applicable

We are unarmed again, correct?

I am visibly unarmed. I am unsure whether I should answer the perception issue or wait for the GM. I am going to since I set the scene, but please let me know if I am stepping on toes.

One of the panels behind Adir provides enough reflective surface in this light for you to see the she-wolf run to a shadowy corner, bark twice at seemingly nothing, turn around, and begin walking back.

"Sounds terrible. Thanks for answering my questions. It must be odd to tell someone things that everybody knows. Though you do seem to know a lot about it." As soon as he says that, he pales a bit, and a concerned note tinges his next question. "You wouldn't try to replicate something like that? It seems like it might be better not to know how."

M Tiefling Magus Kensai 3 | Init +5 | HP 24/26 | AC 18 FF 12 T 17 | Saves +4/+3/+2 | Perception +5 | BAB +2 CMB +5 CMD +15

"Of course, not." Tierney answers with a tone of surprise but completely without umbrage. "Whatever happened is probably beyond the ability of one man to replicate. But you do raise a good point, one that I never thought of before. There might well be those who would seek the answer so that they could wield such power. That is truly a disturbing idea."

"I only want to learn the truth behind it so that the facts do not become a means to motivate armies and populations again. What is the word for that... 'propaganda'? If the truth of the Day of Mourning becomes another casualty of the Last War it would be another source of suffering in the future. And if the truth is hidden that might lead to...I am not sure what."

That suggestion was a complete surprise. Nicely done!

Bridge Map

The drunk Provost strolls by. There is no way he could have overheard your conversation. "I'm sure there are some evil forces out there who would like to replicate it. Always someone looking for a way to hold the threat of deadly power over others for control." He leans in and whispers to Adir, "Something tells me you two will see the mist together soon enough. Protect the warforged. He is our only hope." He looks around to make sure nobody else heard him then holds up his wine glass and cheers you. To life and health. He leans over and peaks in the corner the wolf went to, shrugs, then stumbles on to another passenger.

The flute player begins a famous old sailor's tune and the crew sings along. The Provost puts his arm around one of the sailors and joins in:

"That the tap may be open when it rusts!

My friends are the best friends
Loyal, willing and able.
Now let’s get to drinking!
All glasses off the table!

Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold pint-- and another one!"

They all cheer the last line and start again.

M Eladrin Druid | HP: 18 | Armor:2 | XP:3 | Str:+2 | Dex:+1 | Con:0 | Int:-1 | Wis:+1 | Cha:0 | d6 |

Adir pats the Provost on the shoulder, subtly steadying the man as he walks away. How did he hear that? See the mist? Is this something I should know and understand? Argh...it's so frustrating not knowing things everyone else seems to know.

A short growl escapes Adir. Then a look of confusion comes over him. Wait...'protect the warforged'? Has the Provost seen Servitor?!

Adir addresses Tierney, speaking a little louder to be heard over the singing. "Sorry, Tierney. I seem to have made things serious when we should be enjoying ourselves. If you don't mind, I'd like another opportunity to chat, though."

Tierney casts Shield on himself as his standard action for the surprise round.

Phew, think I got a moment to post here. And yeah, Servitor's a 7 Charisma not due to being mean or ugly, but for having a terrible working knowledge of social protocol. So the sledge is a yes. :) Oh, and not that it matters with rolls like Servitor's been getting, but I actually got 12 Dex with my current build Mason, so I'd have a whopping 4 on initiative! Woo!

Servitor regards Uriah with passive interest, finding the man's mannerisms difficult to follow, but utterly fascinating. But even more so, he found the revelry of the Provost even more perplexing. Had the man not been fearing for his life? Why was he reveling now? When the ship is boarded, the warforged sets slowly into motion. "Provost Bonal! Stay near the others!"

Will delay actual actions for everyone else in the world to act. :P

As the warforged assassins board the ship, Tierney acts quickly. He casts a protection spell, draws his sword, and waits for the enemies to advance. Jarot quickly downs a mutagen and draws his masterwork dagger. Uriah draws his sword and prepares for the worst.

The four assassins move swiftly to surround the first mate. Three flick their wrists and send black, shiny objects at him. Two of the shurikens strike true. Though the shurikens do little damage (5 HP, 2 Con dmg) 1d3 ⇒ 3 Hours, the captain slumps to the ground unconscious. The last assassin grabs the ship's wheel and spins it.

The airship jerks hard to the port side and slowly starts diving towards the ground.

It was one of those moments of trauma in which time seemed to flow slower, Servitor closes its eyes as the Provost falls. Brigands, the Captain... Bonal... They're all... so fragile... With this thought, Servitor never felt more estranged. "I'll enjoy killing you fleshlover!" The words pound home the sentiment. Pickaxe, the other miners, these assassins all considered him a traitor... yet who amongst the fleshbound could he be counted amongst? Bonal considered him his friend.

The warforged slung the hammer into its hands, struggling to stay upright on the careening ship. But he did not care. He knew he could never truly be counted amongst either group. He was alone. But there was one mortal sentiment that he could claim as his own: Vengeance. That was something he could still fight for. The Provost gave him orders that he couldn't fulfill until the ship docked, until then, he had to survive. The fact that he'd enjoy breaking these wretches and sending them to the mines was just a bonus. And even as a servant, who could deny him the right to enjoy his work? And as a warforged... this was certainly just his work.

The warforged lets out a roar as it plods slowly forward. "Even the mines could not break me coward, what hope do you have!?" The great hammer drops upon the little warforged in front of it.

The Provost is down! He said to protect Servitor. Adir freezes for a moment. He sees blood running down the arm of his new friend Tierney and makes a decision. He gestures for Ghost to attack the nearest warforged as he moves to Tierney's side.G-17 Following his orders, but staying close, Ghost moves to attack the warforged.F-18

He touches Tierney's shoulder. "Light shine on you, friend."

I think Adir can cast CLW where he is, move, then deliver the touch as a free action when he arrives to avoid the AOO. You may have meant this Adir. I just want to clarify.

Edit: Nevermind you still draw an AOO from movement, so that is probably why you rolled the concentration. Thank you for adding that roll to keep things moving!

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The assassin's AOO misses as the shifter passes. Adir delivers the touch spell and Tierney feels life force return to his body.

Uriah winces at Servitor's anger Best to stay on that one's good side Lewis.

The head of Servitor's sledge hammer contacts the small assassin in the side. The sound of wood and ore crunching fills the air as the top half of the assassin's body separates from his hips and legs and is catapulted over the side of the airship. Its legs fall harmlessly at Servitor's feet.

The other assassins look on in startled amazement.

Tierney is up then the bad guys.

Bridge Map

I doubt Tierney's action will effect this:

The warforged caster lands in the small air vessel and commands the driver to move to the fore of the airship. The vessel moves forward.

The larger assassin squats down and retrieves the journal from the Provost's coat. He looks up and speaks to Servitor. "You fail. I am Razor and we will meet again...traitor."

The warforged takes off deftly jogging up to the fore of the ship and jumps into the vessel with the caster.

Tierney and Uriah are up.

Without time to thank Adir, Tierney steps behind the enemy that Jarrot faces 5' step to H16 and thrusts his sword at its back. But the ship lurches as he does and the blade slides harmlessly across the warforged's plating.
