Dragonlance: Heroes of a New Age

Game Master Shalafi2412

What came before...:

Six months have passed since the War of Souls, an epic conflict that spanned the world of Krynn. After 39 years when the Gods have been silent and magic flowed unrestrained by the Moons, the Gods of Krynn have returned. The first among the Light, Paladine walks the earth as a mortal, while the Dark Queen Takhisis lies dead, leaving their places vacant among the heavens. Ansalon still bears scars of the decades where evil reigned upon the world in the Godless times. The Dark Knights of Neraka still subjugate numerous lands and the wicked minotaurs have begun a campaign of conquest. Many among the righteous and good have suffered in the Age of Mortals. Solamina's forces are weakened by the war, the elves are in exile, the Kender lands burned to ash and the dwarves in ever conflict with their darker brethren. Decades ago, the Companions saved the world from the brink of ruin. Now once again, heroes must rise and bring balance back to the world. Will you be among them?

Ok that will hit Pegrin as well as one of the bandits. Here comes their saves.

Bandit 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
Pegrin 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18

Unfortunately the Bandit and Pegrin don't seen like they are in the mood for sleeping.

Dam this battle is going bad. Then again it was meant to be a tough fight. The luck of the dice appear to be on the bad guys side.

What do you mean a lance is meant to be a reach weapon when wielded with two hands. It is always a reach weapon that has a special clause that lets it be wielded one handed when mounted. As for attacking the second attack is fine as well as you are considered to be in all four squares when mounted and can attack from any of them. So the reach is fine. I'm confused at what you are saying.

26 points of nonlethal is 14 points of lethal damage, Jor is at -2hp and dying.
Also, considering it started out 2-to-1, we're level 1, and we couldn't surprise them, there was little chance of this going well. Action economy is king in pathfinder.

Round 2

Mithas fires a couple of arrows at the bandit standing over Jor, but misses terribly.

Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Alathea steps forward and Channels energy. Selectively Channeling to exclude the Bandits

Channel Energy 1d6 ⇒ 2 Ugh, dice roller is killing me, Jor is now at 0, I was hoping to get him back up...

If possible I will also move closer to Jor to cast a cure spell on him for the next round.

Alathea is under the effect of Sanctuary so anyone who wished to attack her will need to resist Will to strike at her. If they fail, they cannot attempt for the remainder of the combat.

Ok nevermind then Gabriel. You hit with both attacks then for 13 damage. Was somewhat confused of how you can use a 10 foot spear as a melee weapon outside of using it while charging. After all most knights in battle only used their lances in the initial charges and then switched to longswords for actual melee. Derg is still alive though as he has more than 13 hitpoints. As for the encounter indeed I have heard word that the first fight of this adventure is pretty tough, hence why you have to be strategic about attacking an entire camp full of bandits.

Mithas fires another flurry of arrows only to miss his mark twice.

Next round

Derg 5 foot steps and attacks with a Sword and Dagger combo.

Longsword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Dagger: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Probably missing with both

the woken up camp exits their tents and survey the situation. None of them attack as they get their bearings and trying to decide who is a threat there. The nearly dead bandit limps away from the fight. One bandit engages Terevalis. Pegrin seeing one of his men taking on the Elf, decides to start moving towards Gabriel as he's got a bone to pick with him.

Bandit attack on Terevalis: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Fortunately his attack is deflected by his magical shield.

As for the Archer Bandit he moves and takes a shot at Mithas Arrow Shot: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

And probably misses.

Round 3

I know that I am last but my action will remain the same, I will move next to Jor and heal him.

"Zivilyn bind my allies wounds!"

Empowered Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 That is 12 total points of healing! My only Empower of the day though...

Round 4.. I guess

Jor stands up slowly after the brutal slam on his head, his head still confused and seeing only stars as he tries to recover from the knockup Thank you priestess. Ugh, I feel damn dizzy after that

Noticing still one bandit nearby Jor slashes at him with anger

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Is Terevalis enough close to me and Alathea that we could benefit from the Aura? And is it still "on" so to say

Nifty.

I will allow the Meditation Domain however I was able to find a Pathfinder Conversion of it. It puts the Empowered Spell at a higher level but it lets you use it more than once a day at higher levels. Since you've already rolled I'll let you keep the empowered spell.

Meditation Domain
Deities: Majere, Zivlyn.
Granted Powers: Communion with your god offers spiritual enlightenment and knowledge beyond normal mortal reckoning.

Meditative Touch (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action to grant it an insight bonus equal to ½ your cleric level (minimum +1) to their next Intelligence or Wisdom-based skill check. You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Empty Mind (Su): At 6th level, you may apply the Empowered Spell feat to a spell you are about to cast without increasing the casting time. This ability does not use up a higher-level spell slot. You can use this ability once per day at 6th level, and one additional time per day for every six cleric levels you possess beyond 6th.

Domain Spells: 1st - comprehend languages, 2nd - owl's wisdom, 3rd - locate object, 4th - tongues, 5th - spell resistance, 6th - find the path, 7th - spell turning, 8th - mind blank, 9th - astral projection.

Jor is healed by the power of the cleric. He is still prone and has to retrieve his weapon however as that slipped from his grip when he got KO'ed so he can either retrieve his weapon or stand up, he can't do both unless he uses a standard action as a move action.

Terevalis shoots Pegrin in the side with an arrow and it digs in deep. Pegrin first not seeing the elf as much of a threat turns an angry glare to the elf grimacing in pain from the wound.

"Bloody elf! I'll rip your ears off and feed em to the wolves! he bellows.

The group seems in dire straights as the bandits start closing in for the kill. Gabriel does an AOO on one of the bandits as he moves in.

Lance Stab: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

He likewise takes an attack from Derg and a Bandit

Derg Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Bandit Shortsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Both attacks clink off the knight's armor

Bandit Nedd attacks with a short sword but requires a will save to overcome the sanctuary 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

And can't bring himself to attack her.

The badly injured bandit limps into a tent to take cover.

The bandit with the bow lacking a target of opportunity switches to sword and shield as a full round action.

One bandit attacks Mithas after moving in to attack.

Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Short Sword Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Bandit takes a swing at Terevalis

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
It deflects off his shield

Pegrin takes a swing at Terevais with his sword
Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

But he is able to duck the wild swing.

Round 4

Alathea again Channels Energy hedging out the foes around her and her allies. "Zivilyn, we need your blessings against these foes!"

Channel Energy 1d6 ⇒ 5

Remember you are all under the effect of a Bless spell. Thanks DM, I will update my profile and not use the Empower until I am 6th. Also, I am now out of spells.. :-( - 5 of 7 Channels left to go.

Gabriel takes a 5 foot step back and stabs at the nearest bandit 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

And runs another bandit through and turns his gaze toward Derg. Unfortunately his 5 foot step back also makes him vurnable as the young man in the red robes moves in. He enchants a spell and a glowing orb of flame appears in his hand and he throws it at Gabriel.

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Fortunately he misses and the orb of fire hits the ground near him.

Ok Terevalis, you recognise this as an arcane spell known as "Lesser Orb of Fire" (School: Conjuration). It is a spell that allows someone to conjure fire and then throw it like a weapon, burning those it hits. With that high a spell-craft roll I'll also tell you that the spell was formed of Wild Magical energy rather than a focused wizard invocation, hinting this man is probably a Sorcerer.

Another arrow grazes Pegrin. He is not too happy. As Terevalis steps back he also hits a tripwire that makes some ringing noise as the wire was attached to some small bells.

Everybody, beware, they have a sorcerer among them.

New Round New Attacks Jor

Derg steps up and attacks Gabriel with a sword and dagger combo

Longsword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Dagger: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

But fails to hit with both attacks.

With the sanctuary spell at an end the other bandit slashes at Alathea.

Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

But misses his blow.

Another bandit moves in and slashes at Jor.

Bandit Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

But also misses. Jor then responds by slashing a bandit across the body splitting his chest open and spilling his entrails. The Bandit colapses to the ground.

Nedd seeing this attacks himself with his short sword at Jor.

Nedd Short Sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

and misses the swing

A bandit attacks Mithas [1d20+3[/dice]

Pegrin and a bandit continue to gang up on Terevalis.

Bandit Shortsword attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Pegrin Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

The bandit misses but Pegrin strikes through Terevalis's shield.

Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
And sends Terevalis sprawling to the ground dying with one blow. This however is a trigger for the Elven Archers who were following orders to stay out of the fight unless Terevalis was in danger. They break out of held actions and start peppering the bandits with arrows.
Nathalin has Point blank shot, precise shot and deadly aim
Nathalin at Pegrin: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 2 = 21
Nathalin Longbow Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 4 = 13

All the Elven Rangers have Point blank shot and precise shot so can shoot into melee without penalty
Elven Ranger 1 on Bandit next to Pegrin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Bow Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Elven Ranger 2 on Bandit near Jor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Bow Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Elven Ranger 3 on Bandit near Jor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Bow Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Arrows fly from the woods to the west hitting into two of the bandits wounding them. One of the arrows hits Pegrin in the back shooting with such strength and accuracy that it shoots right through is body impaling him. He still his on his feet however.

As for Gabriel, he steps back and stabs with his lance.

Lance Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

But he misses with a clumsy blow and loses grip on his lance dropping it to the ground.

A bandit attacks Mithas 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

but misses with his strike

With the arrows flying, the red robed man starts looking nervous but seeing the knight that is unarmed makes a hand gesture and shoots a ray of fire out at Gabriel.

Ray Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

And hits for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 fire damage

This was not the same spell as the first time. Spellcraft to identify what he did.

The fire ray hits Gabriel who is burned badly and passes out from the pain. Fortunately as he has a military saddle he does not fall out of it but is currently unconscious.

Jor breaks away from the fight and takes a stab in from the bandit as he breaks away and then takes a slash and takes down the bandit close to Terevalis, cutting him down with a single strike.

Pegrin turns a glace to Jor and says, "You looking for another beating again Boy! Well this time I ain't taking you alive."

Round 5

Alathea again Channels Energy hedging out the foes around her to aid Terevalis and Gabriel, "Zivilyn, our foes overwhelm us, aid us in our time of need!" she practically screeches as she sees her allies falling by two's.

Channel Energy 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

4 of 7 Channels left to go. I think that Channel at least puts Terevalis and Gabriel at 1 or 2 hit points each. Damn, I have been missing the +1 HP on my channeling, sorry bout that!

Derg seeing the elven archers decides to take cover from the arrows rather than finish off Gabriel.

The bandits continue, Nedd attacking the cleric while a bandit attacks jor

Nedd Short Sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 to Althea
Bandit Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

(this is before he moves)

As for Pegrin, his action is to duck into a tent to get out of line of sight of the arrows. The other bandit goes full defense but that does not help when Jor breaks away and cuts him down.

The elves fire at targets of opportunity while Nathaniel repositions himself in the camp for a better vantage point.

Elven Ranger 1 on bandit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Elven Ranger 2 on Nedd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Elven Ranger 3 on Nedd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 on Nedd who takes an arrow in the back and howls in pain.

The red robed man sees more arrows fly and decides to look for arrow cover, hiding behind a tree.

Wow lots of post. This will be the last I can make till back from the weekend. The 6 fire doesn't knock me out. I have Fey Foundling so the first channel energy gave me 4 points back so only 6 damage and then the fire makes 12, and after the other channel I'm now at 5 damage. Looking at the map the second channel I don't think hit me so still at 12 damage. Oh but the previous round channel may have hit me. Has any of the channels hit me besides the first? I get 2 more HP on all those from fey foundling.

Seeing the robed man duck into the trees Gabriel spurs his mount to follow him in. He draws his longsword and takes a swipe at the man.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

"Enough of your magic wizard."

"The horse will be squeezing in the cover and at half movement but I should be fine.

Edit: forgot about the bless spell 15 to hit

Only one of the channel energies actually hit Gabriel as the other ones were too far away from Gabriel. As for attacking the fire throwing sorcerer you would have to contend with Derg as he would not have changed targets if you were still awake.

DM, did Nedd strike me before or after my Channel energy attempt in Round 5? If before then I will have regained most of the Hit Points I lost due to his sword strike. I think before as they act first in the initiative. This will impact the action I take next round. Thank you for the clarification!

Nedd struck after Althea as his initiative was only a 6. As for Pegrin, he will get a chance to strike out at Jor before he has a chance to attack him. I will resolve Jor's action if he actually is still up after Pegrin attacks him. As for the elves they all go on initiative 12 after Pegrin.

M Silvanesti Elf Wizard (Necromancer) 6/5 Renegade Hunter Int +2 AC 22, touch 22, flat-footed 10 (+2 Dex) hp 44 (9d6+9) Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +7; +2 vs. enchantments Defensive Abilities resistance; Immune sleep;

The Silvanesti will stand and fire another arrow at Pegrin.
1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 1 = 22
1d8 ⇒ 7

Rogue(Scout) 7 , hp 45/45, AC 20(T14/FF16) CMD 20, Init +7, Perc +10 (+12 traps). F+5/R+10/W+3 Vanish 5/5

I literally have no idea what's going on. Am I up?
Also can we put the ooc stuff in the discussion thread, it's getting hard to follow what's going on.

Round: ? +1
Hp 3/10; AC 17/17T/14FF; CMD 19
+4F/+5R/+6W
Buffs: bless

Mithas steps steps back and fires at the bandit:

Flurry PBS 1: 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5
Flurry PBS 1: 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 18
Damage?: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Anyway lets speed things along. With the elves involved victory is pretty gurenteed now.

Nathaniel shoots Pegrin with an arrow 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 2 = 23
and misses his mark

Pegrin goes into a rage and attacks Jor 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

He then takes an arrow shot from Terevalis but stays on his feet but then gets promptly cut down by Jor which slices open his chest cavity and killing him outright (As Jor didn't pull his attack and he was only on his feet because of Temp HP from raging.)

Gabriel slashes Derg for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 and Derg colapses into unconsciousness. Mithas takes down the bandit attacking him with a flurry of arrows.

The 3 Elven Rangers fire their bows at the remaining bandits.

Elven Ranger 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Elven Ranger 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Elven Ranger 3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Nedd goes down and the other bandit is killed.

Nedd and a bandit are hit for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 and 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

As for Cole, seeing Derg being taken down he puts his hands up and says, "I give up! Please don't kill me! I'm not with these guys! I'm just a mercenary!

As for the other surviving bandit, he is in no shape to resist and has collapsed unconscious in the tent. Now as Nedd and Derg are named characters you can try and stablize them. As for Pegrin, unfortunately the blow from Jor pretty much sliced his guts out so he's very dead. The combat is at an end with your victory.

The elven rangers give a cautious look to the group but Nathaniel signals for them to stand down and they proceed to lower their bows and put their arrows back in their quivers.

Nathaniel looks to Terevalis and says in Elvish "Greetings Terevalis. I have kept my word to Shaylin and saw to your protection in this endevor. Your companions fought well but that knight was foolish to give up the advantage by announcing your presence. If I were leading such an attack, my men would have dropped half these ruffians before they could even draw their weapons. Whatever the case, the task is done and this group of bandits will trouble us no more."
